Over the past 20 years, the obesity rate in children has climbed significantly. There are two reasons for this epidemic, which are:

- A change in the way kids eat
- A change in how often kids exercise

Families are so busy that fast food and sugar-laden drinks are normal, every day meals rather than a treat. Instead of going outside and playing, kids are often found inside sitting on the couch playing computers and video games. Children don’t normally walk to school anymore either. Instead, they are bussed or dropped off and picked up by their parents, even if the school is a short distance away.

The modern childhood lifestyle creates plump toddlers. These plump toddlers then become chunky kids who in turn become overweight teenagers and fat adults. Weight loss camps are designed to stop this from happening and provide kids and teens with strategies that will last their entire lives. These modern teen weight loss camps do not like to be called fat camps; they much prefer being known as fitness camps.

The best weight loss camp for any child is the one where he will become engaged in the process and learn to change his eating habits and his exercise routine in a way that will benefit him long after camp is over. The goal of fitness camp is to teach kids the relationships between eating and exercise and how both are necessary for healthy living. Weight loss is about calories taken in versus calories expended and understanding that relationship is crucial to establishing a healthier lifestyle.

There is a prominent reason behind these camps’ success and that is children are exercising with children who have similar issues. During gym classes, overweight children have a hard time staying caught up with the rest of the average weight peers, either they’ll try hard or give up. However, when overweight children workout together, they can cheer each other on and don’t have to fear of being made fun of for being clumsy or for struggling to keep up. This creates an environment of positive peer pressure versus the negative peer pressure that many kids are used to dealing with.

These camps make physical exercise fun and try their hardest not to make kids feel embarrassed. All of the other kids are very supportive and kids should benefit from this extra encouragement. Everybody at these camps has experienced similar things and this makes it easier for them to support you.

Nothing makes a child feel more self confident than knowing he tried hard and did his best ? and it was good enough. A week (or a month) of weight loss fitness camp will not undo years of overeating and sedentary behavior but it can start an obese child or teen on the path to a healthier future.

Many are baffled at the idea, and wonder how any woman could possibly juggle multiple children while getting work done. The key is having a kid-proof space for the kids to hang out in, and tons of activities for the kids to do while mommy is busy working.

And there are plenty of sites that understand this need, and have created free resources for moms to get printable activities for their toddlers and older children to do. For religious moms, there are websites that offer printable bible quizzes for kids. You can have your child do this with a bible handy, kind of a home made CCD course without the inconvenient CCD evening classes.

A great way for younger children to develop reading and math skills before preschool, and printable shapes for toddlers. Fisher Price has a whole slew of them available on their websites. The key is to take a break now and then to discuss the shapes with your toddler, and point our what color they are using, and how to spell out the word of the shape. It’s been proven by numerous studies that children who get their shapes and colors down pat have a much easier time with developing their reading and math skills in the future.

Another great way for a toddler to learn his letters and numbers, are printable color by numbers and color by letters worksheets. These are great motivational tools for your child to learn his or her alphabet and counting orders because they offer a rewarding end result. They give toddlers a means to draw more advanced pictures for their levels just by following the letters or numbers.

For babies, quiet book patterns work great. Moms can either buy these at specialty toy stores, or make their own. You just take thicker fabric and sew it together to create pages in a book. On each page, you sew on cloth flowers, cloth butterflies, cloth dogs, different textured fabrics, ecc. The key is to use things that won’t be choking hazards. These will usually last babies 20-30 minutes of exploring while moms get tasks done. Moms can make multiples of them, and send a bit of time with their baby or do a task that allows them to hold their baby for a bit in between uses of quiet book patterns.

With these tools, moms have been able to save money on day care by providing themselves as a teaching mentor and loving adult presence in their children’s daily lives. Also, they develop discipline skills for their kids by teaching them to practice patience and obedience while mommy is busy getting some work done. The key is for moms to take breaks every once in a while to monitor their child’s activities. It’s also nice for children to get a break from the learning activities, and get to veg out in front of some educational cartoons while they take a break from studying.

The Call Of Your Bathroom

Beginning in the first trimester, you’ll need to visit your bathroom more frequently. There are a couple of reasons. First, your body is producing more fluid. Second, your uterus is growing larger, which places an increasing amount of pressure on your bladder. Both circumstances will worsen as you progress into your second and third trimesters.

It is essential that you keep your body hydrated. A lot of pregnant women try to limit the water they drink to reduce the frequency of their bathroom trips. That’s a bad idea. Hydration is more important than ever during your pregnancy, so make sure your body is receiving a sufficient amount of water.

Clearing Your Mind

If only your mind were as exhausted as your body at the end of each day. Instead, a lot of moms-to-be lie awake at night as their minds race with the responsibilities they face. For example, you might find yourself thinking about projects at work. You might quietly worry that your baby’s nursery won’t be completed in time. This has the dual effect of raising your anxiety level while depriving you of sleep.

Daily exercise will help, but you should also wind down each day by avoiding stimuli that causes you stress. Turn off the television, leave taxing conversations for the following day, and pick up a book. That gives you a chance to clear your mind and prepare for a peaceful night of sleep.

The Best Position

Experts suggest that sleeping on your left side is the best position – for both you and your little one. The reason is due to the placement of your organs. As your uterus grows, it puts pressure on a large vein called the inferior vena cava. This is the vein through which blood flows from your lower body to your heart. It is located on your right side. By sleeping on your left, you’ll avoid placing pressure upon it, thereby keeping your blood flowing unhampered.

A lot of women are accustomed to sleeping on their backs, which is the worst position while your pregnant (again, because of the vena cava). If you’re having trouble getting comfortable sleeping on your side, use pillows under your head, stomach, and between your knees. They’ll provide support for your expanding body.

A Few Last Tips

There are a few steps you can take to improve your chances of getting a good night’s sleep. As noted earlier, you should exercise each day to release pent-up energy. You should also avoid drinking fluids right before going to bed (again, make sure you’re keeping your body hydrated). Otherwise, you’ll find yourself scrambling to the bathroom during the middle of the night. Also, consider taking a warm bath to relax your body and mind before turning in for the evening.

Sleep deprivation can be extremely frustrating and taxing when you’re pregnant. You’re going to lose plenty of sleep when your baby is born. Now’s the time to get as much as possible.
