Title: Evolution's Security
Description: We got what it takes to ward away hacks?

This is probably pretentious of me to ask, but considering the possibility that whoever may be responsible for the hacking attacks on Hyperactive may choose to eventually come here if his or her hatred is motivated against us as a community, what kinds of distaster recovery plans have you guys got in tail to ensure the safety of this place? I'd really hate to settle in here for a week or so, only for the same thing to happen again with no backups waiting.
Just curious really... :)

This is a different system, isn't it? To hack into this, wouldn't they be hacking the whole Invision service? I'm sure the good people at Invision (love your work, lads!) have security measures in place, it seems to be a fairly popular forum service. :)

Yeah, its different. Its likely that whoever hacked the forums found a phpBB exploit, and this is, thankfully, another system.
Of course, theres also the chance its some uber1337 hacker who is going to do the same here and then STEAL OUR CHILDREN!
Ahem, slight exaggeration. However I do not have any children and are therefore relatively untroubled by my own wild claim.

I'd be lying if I said the thought of getting hit hadn't crossed my mind. From what I've been told, it does look like it was targeted for a reason.
I'm not sure if this community provides much of a target or trophy to a hacker though. As some of those who hate this place have pointed out - it's a small Hyper knock off. Now why I don't agree with the knock off part, when compared to the size of Hyper, this is a tiny place that probably wouldn't be worth the effort.
Having said that, Invision's set up is pretty solid. They have a lot of boards and I don't remember when one was hit last (I've had an Invision board in the past). These are free services, so hacking them really doesn't screw much up.
We take a heap of backups too, so things could be replaced.

I doubt Invision Boards can be hacked.
Invision Boards dont use a MySQL Database to store data. ;)

The same was always said about VCGN. However in my opinion VCGN was always the superior forum. It's the same here.
I've been told that Invision Boards are a lot more secure than phpBB boards a few times before so hopefully we're pretty damn safe here. :)

Serious? No MySQL at all? What do they use then?

Nothing is hack proof...don't be so bloody naive.

Firstly, I'm a programmer of considerable experience; well over three years and I have numerous, reputable certifications to prove it. It's common knowledge that nothing is hack-proof; code is constructed almost as easily as it is de-constructed.
If you pay attention to the minor topic header though; you'll see that I've asked about warding hacks, not preventing them. Most hackers haven't got that gall to try anything if they can't crack it very simply or within an extremely short amount of time. Their adventurous nature lends themselves to short attention spans.
Maybe you should stop judging books by their cover; while you're at it, don't resurrect ancient threads for the purposes of bad-mouthing people.
