Looks like the Mario All-Stars are set to shoot some hoops with the NBA faithful? If this new box-art is anything to go by, Mario and the gang could be making an appearence in the new NBA Streets game.
There is no official word from Nintendo at the moment, but the box art is from EBGames (USA) own website, and must of come from somewhere! |
http://www.cube-europe.com/news.php?nid=7271Righto.
Well, I guess this could count as Mario Basketball! :P
~DC - December 14, 2004 08:51 AM (GMT)
I was pretty impressed with NBA Street Vol. 2 and with the added inclusion of Mario characters this definitely also looks like a worthwhile purchase.
Dakwota - December 14, 2004 09:50 AM (GMT)
Abit of a gimmick?
Does ther XBOX version have Master Chief? :P
BrotherEstapol - December 14, 2004 10:05 AM (GMT)
LOL, now THAT would be funny!
And somehow I can imagine it happening...maybe it's cause of all those promo's of a guy in a MC suit playing with football teams.
fishonthecarpet - December 14, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
That's kind of funny :P It's nice to see them add a nice touch, and I guess it's good to see Ninty getting in bed with EA a bit more.
...
Hang on, Ea. Disregard that previous comment.
eggman - December 14, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
*reaches for the vomit bucket* :argh:
Nintendo are better than that, why have Mario and Luigi in an EA GAME? Blasphamy, Nintendo :P
DJ-Civic - December 14, 2004 02:07 PM (GMT)
How will a 4ft tall plump plumber play vs a 6'5" NBA athlete?
BrotherEstapol - December 14, 2004 02:40 PM (GMT)
You've seen Mario jump, I think he'll do fine. :)
*makes mario jumping sound*
Dakwota - December 14, 2004 09:45 PM (GMT)
He does those spin jumps off Sunshine and that's his signature dunk! :)
borgster101 - December 14, 2004 11:18 PM (GMT)
There was rumours of a Mario basketball game, this could be it, I suppose it's cool to allow appropriate developers to handle such a game, the NBA Street games are pretty cool so at least it would actually be a decent basketball experience with Mario characters.
Hello - December 17, 2004 10:56 PM (GMT)
If anybody's got NBA Street Vol 2, and live in the Melbourne area, then I'd be very interested in taking it off their hands.
IGN is stating that you play as Mario, Luigi and Peach, and that there's one Mazza themed court.I CAN'T WAIT!
~DC - December 18, 2004 04:43 AM (GMT)
I have a copy of NBA Street Vol. 2 but I live in the Adelaide area. :P
I was thinking of selling/trading it and upgrading when Vol. 3 is released.

Wouldn't Mario seem out of place here?
Colorful cartoon characters vs. realistic detailed human characters...

Space Jam Worked- Right?

:D Man that was a cool movie!
...still, the idea of Mario vs. Mr.Doe is strange..
borgster101 - December 21, 2004 04:28 AM (GMT)
Yeah it is strange, but such strategies have worked before. Hell the implementation of Link in the GCN version of Soul Calibur II was arguably the reason it sold more than the PS2 and Xbox versions. Although I suppose Link fits in the SC universe much more than Mario fits in the NBA, but yeah it's something that has got a lot of peoples attention.
fishonthecarpet - December 21, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
Soul Calibur II sold more on GCN?
Wow! I didn't know any GCN games sold more than any Playstation or Xbox games! (other than comparing crap titles to Metroid obviously)
Not that I don't love Nintendo, but well we all know the sales story.

Maybe because the controlling was better and...
eh, who am I kidding, it was all Link. <_<
Manny M - December 21, 2004 11:24 PM (GMT)
Actually, I thought link was a little nancy boy, and had I bought my Xbox at the time it came out, I would've gone with spawn any day.
borgster101 - December 21, 2004 11:32 PM (GMT)
Heh, I was happy with the inclusion of Link, and didnt really care much for the other exclusive characters in the other versions, however I of course understood that SC is awesome anyway :) .
Ahem, but yeah Link's popularity is indeed at a grand scale for it to be probably the reason of the GCN versions huge success, possibly Mario and the gang can do the same for NBA...
Manny M - December 22, 2004 12:41 AM (GMT)
Well NBA Street Vol2 was an excellent game, and i'm dissapointed at the prospect that I won't have the time to enjoy this title, especially with the inclusion of our favourite gang.
BrotherEstapol - January 15, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
IGN have posted some videos of the All-Stars in action:
http://media.cube.ign.com/media/694/694254/vids_1.htmlThey look pretty funny actually, beating the huge NBA players.
Gio - January 22, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
That looked pretty cool. :P
But really, it wouldn't interest me if it didn't have Mario characters so in that respect I won't be getting the game*
*Because EA are evil :P
Machiavelli - January 25, 2005 06:15 AM (GMT)
Mario and company just don't look right in NBA Street V3. It's kinda funny though.
When it comes to Volume 3. That's almost agiven, after Volume 2 there's probably no excuse not to pick it up. I'm sure it will exceed all expectations - for me anyway. I'm still a sucka for some 4 player street action.
Manny M - January 26, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
Ah crap, who am I kidding, i'll be buying this one for sure.
Although, that annoying ass MC is still in it.
"Banana loopy"?! How about you shut the fuck up, DAWG!
Hello - February 8, 2005 07:56 AM (GMT)
Well, 9.4 on IGN. I know, I know, IGN aren't that great, but 9.4! Surely it can't be completely shit!
I'm just looking forward to a decent, ONE-PLAYER sports title, which isn't over in a few days - from the review at IGN this sounds like Vol 3 will give me this.
Still, IGN gave NFL Street a 9.1, or something, and I felt that it was completely average...
~DC - February 8, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
I'm definitely going to get this and if I can't get rid of Vol. 2 beforehand I'll probably just trade it in and another game at EB.
borgster101 - February 9, 2005 08:56 AM (GMT)
Going by online stores it seems that the GCN version isn't being released in Australia, since the Xbox & PS2 versions have a date, but there is nothing for the GCN? This is probably because sports titles on the GCN sell very poorly in Australia, however given the inclusion of Mario in the game, you'd think that they would give this one a chance.
Manny M - February 9, 2005 09:10 PM (GMT)
Same thing happened with Def Jam: Fight for NY.
Time to import then Borg. Mwuhahhaha, it's all coming together...

 Well I don't want this game anyway, I just thought it was worth mentioning.
ultracrazy1 - February 12, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
You know beastie boys are in it too. Kinda like def jam versions - much bigger than in real life, doing unrealistic stuff.
I'm not a fan of gimicky cameos, but I must admit that mario, luigi, peach and the beastie boys are a better inclusion than Nelly ala NBA street vol 2.
ironman - August 24, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
Well its a very good game(my fav out of the NBA Street series) but I dont think it counts as a mario basketball. It need the best guy in the Super Smash Bros., Falco!
BrotherEstapol - August 24, 2006 05:13 AM (GMT)
Uh, this thread is like 6 months old. >_>
ironman - August 26, 2006 06:12 AM (GMT)
And i still OWN the game. Plus theres no threads on new games anyways. why not go retro?
