Description: and it's quite ownageful

Put my new system together yesterday

Antec Super LanBoy
Antec NeoPower 480W
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Athlon 64 3500+
1024MB Corsair PC3200 DDR
LG 16X Dual Layer DVD Burner
200GB Western Digital SATA Hard Drive
Sapphire Radeon X800XT

It's pretty awesome, not quite as good as ElPrez's for some reason... It's very close though... 5466 on 3DMark05 at 1280x1024 (5485 at 1024x768) and 11510 on 3DMark03 at 1280x1024 (11554 at 1024x768) although I haven't downloaded the 3.5.0 Patch yet so it'll probably get less when I do I'm downloading the patch now... I'll post my results when I can be bothered running it again... But it still gets 5466 on 3DMark05... For some reason though it only gets around 23200 or so on 3DMark01SE I thought it'd get more like 27000 I don't know why that is but it probably doesn't matter that much it's still really awesome. So anyways just thought you guys might like to know that I've finally got it so I won't have to ask anymore questions about it... Hopefully... Muahahahaha >_>

EDIT: Just ran 3DMark03 again with the build 3.5.0 patch installed score went down by around 160 now it gets 11394 on 3DMark03 at 1280x1024... Still a very respectable score I must say...

Yes the motherboard can support up to 4 hard drives in RAID... I only have one hard drive though so I don't have RAID...

Technically it only set me back $75 which I paid for the mouse (mum paid $5 more for the mouse) because my dad bought it for us (and my brother paid for $100 of it...) but the total cost of the system, not including the monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc. was $2592 w00t! I have a computer that can run stuff well finally! :dance3:

Downgrading I see... :cheese:

Congrats man, I know how you must feel, getting a new beasty computer is the best feeling in the world. Just a tip, don't let any noobsih relatives/friends/family use it, my computer is now so sluggish and crap, I'm so pissed off. In the first few weeks of getting my new PC it would start in 15 seconds flat, now it takes about 5 minutes because of all the crap on it.

Dakwota - December 11, 2004 10:03 PM (GMT)
Format it man.

Verrrry nice system there Dave.

To answer your query about why you can't quite make it to my 3DMark score it is because my graphics card is a Platinum Edition which has a slight edge on the standard X800XTs. They are basically phantomware now as they are nigh on impossible to get. I'm still buggered how I fluked one.

I'd say in actually gameplay though you would probably just pip me at the post thanks to your processor.

Enjoy your beast. :D

Yeh probably... I'm having a slightly majorish problem with anti-aliasing though... See... The anti-aliasing doesn't seem to do anything, there seems to be no difference in quality between 2XAA and 6XAA and it doesn't even give me the option to run at 8XAA I don't know why someone PLEASE help me?! Fortunately though it's got a 12 month warranty so if it's something wrong with the card then I claim it on the warranty or whatever... But someone please help me!!! I took a few screen schots at supposedly different AA levels and they looked almost exactly the same... AAAAAAAARGH :argh:

What game are you trying to change the AA on?
I'm not sure if all games would support it...

That's almost identical to my PC, save for the video card (I have a 6800 ultra).

Enjoy it dude. Sims 2 will run brilliantly ;)

Quite a few, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (I know it's not supposed to work on that game), Halo, NFSU2, even 3DMark05 it doesn't seem to make a difference on, I noticed that there seems to be no difference in quality between 2XAA and 6XAA on some of those games... But I tried it on FarCry and AA definitely does work on FarCry... I don't play that game though :P... I'm going to try it on Half Life 2 when it's finished updating (curse you dial-up!!!) and also it can only go up to 6XAA I thought it should be able to do 8XAA... What's yours go up to ElPrez?

ElPresidente - December 13, 2004 01:22 AM (GMT)
ATi cards only go up to 6x where as nVidia does 8x. However the overall image improvement is about the same though the ATi solution uses a form of gama correction to create more natural edge smoothing that results in a slightly nicer looking result though to be honest at resolutions above 1280 x 1024 you wont see the difference between the two.

But that is not the whole story. You will find a great article on FSAA here.

K that's a relief thanks ElPrez

AA works with Half Life 2 not that I'm planning on playing it again... I guess the problem with AA was just with those games or something... :S
