Title: Sound Problems with 'Mafia'
evO - November 23, 2004 08:20 AM (GMT)
I bought Mafia the game from Electronics Boutique on Friday, and came home and installed it. It runs fine except for one thing, the sound doesn't work properly. About 80% of the voice don't work, like in videos and sometimes during play (like Speech), and most of the time the cars can barely be heard and guns sound really tinny. Occasionally the sounds will "turn on" and i will be able to hear the true sounds of the cars and guns, but this rarely happens. It sucks because i've had to put subtitles on just so i can tell what is actually going on in videos etc. I've tried re-installing, nothing happened. The only thing i could think of is the sound card driver, but i don't know where to get one. I only have the default sound card, a Realtek AC'97 or something like that.
Anyone else ever experienced this problem? Know how to fix it?
Any help, please guys? Thanks :(

Have you tried getting a patch for the game?
Try their official website.

Well, the patch didn't help the sound, but added some other stuff, so thanks :P
I think my sound card is not compatible with the game.

Again?
You must have good memory, cause I can't remember the last time I forgot the b in thumbsup. :P
Anyway, in the future, if you don't have anything to add to thread, don't post at all in it, spam is evil. ;)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Mafia makes use of the old Indeo video/audio codec no longer supported by Windows.
P2P file sharing networks are probably your best bet along with Google searches. If you have Win 95/98 you are fine but XP doesn't come with Indeo.

Yeah the patch came with some details about the sound problems, but it didn't really help me out, heh.
