Title: Platinum GCNs
Description: AND now, Platnium Wavebirds!! (p.4)

borgster101 - November 11, 2004 01:16 AM (GMT)
It looks like Nintendo Australia will be releasing the Platinum cubes in Australia after all, were they waiting for a certain amount of cubes to be sold before the Platinum was to be released?? .

In any case, it's better late than never, and there are still a huge number of consumers that dont own GCNs or any next gen console, hell I know people that bought the N64 at its death, so I wouldnt say its too late.

Pre-Order Now!

It's also selling at the RRP of $199, which is the same as standard for the current consoles, hence it is likely stores like Big W will sell it cheaper.

There is probably not many people here interested in this now though, excpet for you crazy lot that will buy a second console ;) .

UltraGekko - November 11, 2004 02:01 AM (GMT)
Yeah well I'm one of those crazy lot. I bought a second black Cube to get the GB Player bundle. I might sell my first black Cube to get this platinum one though. Although I probably will only get the platinum if it's bundled with a game or something.

C'mon NAL, bring out that Metroid Echoes bundle for Christmas.

borgster101 - November 11, 2004 03:01 AM (GMT)
Well Echoes does release on the same day, so it's possible for such a bundle but they dont usually tend to bundle new games with consoles.

DJ-Civic - November 11, 2004 02:37 PM (GMT)
According to Topshop, you get 4 Cubes in 1 box. Sweet! :D

:P

I'm going to seriously think about getting this. I always wanted a platinum Cube.

borgster101 - November 12, 2004 02:37 AM (GMT)
Yeah it is tempting a Platnium cube does look slick!! :D

And those 4 per box is a bit weird??

cd2 - November 21, 2004 09:49 PM (GMT)
Well 10 days later I have now just noticed this thread. Anyway this is really great news, I was thinking of buying a new console next year some time cause the one I have now is making weird nosies more then normal.

anyway just woke up and thought I would check things online befor eI hit Paper Maio.

borgster101 - November 21, 2004 11:37 PM (GMT)
I've been wondering what the 4 in one box at Topshop is

~DC - November 21, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)
Is it the same ssize as the previous GCM models or a little smaller?

BrotherEstapol - November 21, 2004 11:57 PM (GMT)

It's just a regular GCN you dolt! :P

~DC - November 22, 2004 12:15 AM (GMT)
Thought so. I'd only consider buying one if it was more portable, purely because I like all my consoles to take up less space.

*looks at the brick in the corner with the green X in the middle* :P

borgster101 - November 22, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
Well the GCN was pretty small to begin with (until the PSTwo), but yeah it's just a cooler colour to go with your DVD player and other Hi-Fi equipment.

Which is why I got the a Jet cube, as all my Hi-Fi stuff is black. B-)

Yeah same as me :) , except my TV is silver.

I guess some people have purple equipment justifying an Indigo cube :P

UltraGekko - November 22, 2004 08:46 AM (GMT)
While we are talking about the hardware how would you guys feel about an add on that would let you play your N64 games on the GameCube (similar to the GB Player)? It's just that www.nintendo.com had a poll recently asking that question.

I would be interested if it was cheap enough since there are a few N64 games I haven't finished and my controllers are worn out.

If it works the same way as the GB Player (that is the add on would contain the actual N64 hardware) I wonder whether it would contain a slot for the Expansion Pak or have 8MB of RAM built in.

No I wouldn't want one and I wouldn't buy one. Because where would I stick the GB player? and I still have all my N64 games and the controllers are still good even the one that has not been used yet. I brought new ones just as the N64 was leaving. And anyway my days of playing older games is dying, more and more I am just playing new releases or just heading back to older GCN games.

borgster101 - November 22, 2004 09:55 PM (GMT)
Regarding the N64 Player it sounds interesting, but I dont know how well it would work, considiring you'd have to still own N64 games for the add on to be succesful, the Gameboy Player doesnt have this problem since Gameboy games are availble simultaneously with GCN games, but N64 games are relics now, who's going to buy an add on to play games they cant purchase??

Also, how would the saving system work? It's fine for games that have battery backup (essentially all the Nintendo games), but what about the many 3rd party games that required a controller pak to save games, there would need to be a slot on the N64 Player itself for saves to work, I think if Nintendo wanted the GCN to play N64 games then they should have made the GCN backwards compatibile although I can see the difficulties in doing this, hence maybe the trend should start with the Revolution.

BrotherEstapol - November 23, 2004 01:01 AM (GMT)
Ok, lets address two things here:
Saves: Um, the GCN has memory cards for a reason dude. :P Failing that, they could easily shove some flash memory in the unit itself.

The extra 8mb RAM: They would be stupid not to include this, the i-Que and DS already have enough ram. I'm sure if Nintendo did make this add-on, it would include the Ram in the system, or maybe even leech the GCN's ram.

Speaking of the i-Que, if they did go through with this, I'm sure that's where they'd get thier hardware from.

[m]averick - November 23, 2004 01:10 AM (GMT)
I'd consider buying a cube now that I got money but only if it was like 120 bucks maximum with a game...

BrotherEstapol - November 23, 2004 01:27 AM (GMT)
What about $130 with a game? Cause that's what I've seen it for lately.

 , yeah to save GCN games. It wouldnt work for saving N64 games though, since the original N64 games would not recongnise the GCN memory cards, there would need to be a way to use a controller pak on the N64 Player or as you said possibly flash memory bulit into the N64 player.

Um, how woudn't it work?

The proposed system would be piggy-backing the GCN, and running off it. So why wouldn't Nintendo be able to make it so that the N64 saved to the GCN memory cards via some sort of software emulation or coding trickery?

I tried emailing Toyshop but they just replied "That product should not be listed in the catalogue and has now been removed. I apologise for any confusion caused."

So I still do not know what the 4 per box is. :(

Yeah 4 per box is probably a typo. Nintendo probably pack 4 GameCubes in a box when they ship them from wharehouse.

Well if it works like a Gameboy Player you would need a boot disc to load N64 games, in doing this you switch to 'N64 mode', since the GCN memory cards are apart of the 'GCN mode' they probably aren't compatible with eachother, and as I said the original N64 games were programmed differently, I dont think it would be able to work.

I'm sure you would be able to program it to use the GCn cards some how, anyway the whole idea of a N64 Player is just bad. And I hope that they are not diverting resources away from N5 development.

borgster101 - November 24, 2004 09:59 AM (GMT)
Hrmph, I guess there could be someway, but I still dont see it as being a simple task mainly due to the incompatibilties between both systems.

BrotherEstapol - November 24, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)
Arrrgh! It could easily be done!! :P

Coders are very clever people, you'd be surpirsed what they can come-up with. ;)

Yeah I guess so, but it probably is an obstacle in determing whether Nintendo will actually release the device.

Back to the topic... Platnium GCNs are cool :D

cd2 - November 28, 2004 10:11 PM (GMT)
Are they bringing out a Platnium GB player?

CAOTIC - November 29, 2004 02:15 AM (GMT)
Apart from that Topshop site, I've seen no other news about any of this.

Is it just me, or am I the only one doubting the Platinum's actual release down here?

borgster101 - November 29, 2004 09:28 AM (GMT)
I've read this news on another forum posted by a member who apparantly has insider info, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

cd2 - November 29, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
DVD Orchard.com.au are pre ordering them as well.

Gamehead.com.au

I just think stores will sell thru current stock before they buy more, well most will.

borgster101 - November 30, 2004 09:59 PM (GMT)
Well the 3rd isn't long away so stores should have been receiving them, so it looks like it is indeed releasing with more online stores stocking them.

cd2 - December 1, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
Big W has them for $145, and black and indego for $99

borgster101 - December 2, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
Well that explains the lower price of the orginal cubes, if you havent got a cube yet or want a second one, it's pretty damn afforadable.

CAOTIC - December 6, 2004 11:55 AM (GMT)
Platinum Cubes ARE for sale! - I'm a believer.

I would like to thank the Evolution Forums for being better promoters than Nintendo Australia themselves. What dumbasses.

DJ-Civic - December 6, 2004 12:01 PM (GMT)
So, does anyone want to buy a slightly scratched Jet Cube? :P

Gio - December 6, 2004 12:40 PM (GMT)
Does anyone want to buy a really well scratched jet GCN? :D
