Title: Show us your desktop
Description: Wallpapers, Themes, etc.
DJ-Civic - July 14, 2004 01:03 PM (GMT)
Anyone know of any good window themes for XP? I'm looking for a new one for my PC, but a lot I've seen simply suck. I tried themexp.org which had average ones at best.
Also feel free to post your current desktops with theme.
/backslash - July 14, 2004 01:35 PM (GMT)
hmm, deviantart maybe? *shrugs*
I dunno, I downloaded a skin once but it was chugging up my computer and freezed up on occasions (I think I was using Style XP) So now mine's that boring silver colour scheme that came with Windows XP Home
TrinityJayOne - July 14, 2004 03:40 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately good ones are very hard to find. :( At the moment I'm using a skin for StyleXP. It's a dark green one that goes shockingly well with my
Ghost in the Shell wallpaper and current Opera skin.
Desktop (not a bad collection of multimedia programs, eh Civ? ;))OperaThe desktop theme is called StrangeWorld, and my Opera skin is TobsTheatre with the base color set to "jungle".
/backslash - July 14, 2004 03:46 PM (GMT)
heeey...i like that gits desktop background trin :)
the green skin looks nice but it'd probably get to me after a while
and what's that website u blurred? an xxx link?

DJ-Civic - July 14, 2004 05:46 PM (GMT)
Where's Metallix? <_< :P
This is a theme I was using a while back. I alternate between that one and the silver one in xp, which isn't very exciting.
And looking at that blurred link, i can make out the number "18"... :P
Manny M - July 14, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
There's a huge thread over at hyper about desktops and whatnot in the PC forums. If you don't want to pay a visit, I could do some investigative research for you :ph43r:
thebigm - July 15, 2004 05:18 AM (GMT)
Why even use the windows taskbar if you can have something like a dock....

(If you want to access the systray though you need to quit).
Edit: seems as though cd2 found the program
cd2 - July 15, 2004 05:30 AM (GMT)
You talkin about this bigm
Object dock Vers 1.02
rampaging_geek - July 15, 2004 11:16 AM (GMT)
Here's mine. It's a standard one which comes with Windows blinds. It's simple, but that's how I like my desktop. :D
[m]averick - July 15, 2004 12:21 PM (GMT)
TheBigM that is one sweet wallpaper! Can you post or link the picture please?
DJ-Civic - July 15, 2004 02:13 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys. I looked at that Object Dock program and it's cool, but looks like you need a lot of Ram... :(
Does anyone use Windows Blinds? There's a lot of nice themes for it.

http://spiderman.sonypictures.com/The wallpaper is from there, also Civic, most desktop theme programs use a lot of memory, so I ain't sure if it is wise with your comp.... But if you are into programming check out www.litestep.net where you litteraly create your desktop to do what you want, although it takes a lot of work.
_MetalliX_ - July 19, 2004 04:10 AM (GMT)
Never fear, I am here! :ph43r:
Well my themes usually use
StyleXP which will work on even the crappiest of computers, it really does use almost no resources. And the onscreen stats are displayed using
CoolMon. Only requires basic HTML knowledge (If you can post with bold, italics, colours etc, then you can customize this program) to set up a good looking stats display, or just ask me for my one. On the odd occasion I will use my
ObjectDock but I have really grown tired of it, as findings icons which are a high enough resolution to accomodate the expand feature when the icon is hovered over are hard to find. In contadiction to thebigm's post, it is possible to have the systray showing while using the
ObjectDock program with a simple tick of a check box.
The latest desktop fashion at the moment is MacOSX.
StyleXP has a theme which emulates this. It is basically just making your PC look like a Mac while still keeping the functionality you have come familiar with.
My desktop no longer looks like this, unfortunately I have run out of time on my ShareWare version of StyleXP. Which I will not uninstall and then reinstall. :whistling:

In the top-right we can see CoolMon hard at work. If you look closely, even with Winamp, StyleXP and Coolmon open, I am only using 0.47% of my CPU. Top-middle is Winamp 5, with a skin which comes standard with the download. Bottom- right is the Recycle Bin with Metrox style icons I found at DeviantArt. Task bar is care of StyleXP. The wallpaper is also from DeviantArt, I love the trippy wallpapers.
_MetalliX_ - September 25, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
Alright, I have compiled a new theme that I am really in love with... :woot:
Manny M - September 26, 2004 01:17 AM (GMT)
Awesome.
It's really simple, but I like it!
Lordage - September 27, 2004 01:39 PM (GMT)
I like my new one. :)
DJ-Civic - September 27, 2004 01:57 PM (GMT)
Looks a bit similar to the standard silver XP theme.
TrinityJayOne - September 27, 2004 05:16 PM (GMT)
I can't be bothered screening mine, but there's lots of orange in it. :)
Manny M - September 28, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
I want to use the Ashton Shell on my new PC... friggen thing slows down my games for some reason..
ElPresidente - September 28, 2004 01:21 AM (GMT)
It is your crappy computer that's the problem. :)
j/k... don't hit me.
Manny M - September 28, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
I was waiting for that....
Just wait till I pay a visit to Melbourne...
Film Guru - November 10, 2004 12:37 AM (GMT)
I looked and I couldn't find a "desktop" thread. It's been done a million times before, you know the drill. No prettying up your desktop, just capture it and post it here. And if you can, post a small explaination of some of the mess there. I wanna see that mess of a desktop you call your own. Here's mine:

Desktop Image: Markymark's nearly completed second test comic for The Hawaiian Crew. It was too sexy not to make it my desktop.
Files Open: A shot of Episode III's new villain, General Greivous, and the Episode III trailer.
Post 'em here! Let's see 'em! :D
Comrade Natrak - November 10, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
*merged FG's thread with this one*
Here's my desktop/theme.
BrotherEstapol - November 10, 2004 10:00 AM (GMT)
Awesome Desktop Commie.
FG: Take another screenie WITHOUT any windows open!! :P
Film Guru - November 10, 2004 11:13 AM (GMT)
I diliberately opened some windows to hide markymark's artwork. Want it kept somewhat a surprise for when it's finished. :P
In reality, no changes, here's what my normal, everyday desktop looks like. Clean as a whistle:

Probably too neat, but what are you gonna do. *coughs and points to the bottom right corner* Behold! My screenplay!! :dance3:
~DC - November 10, 2004 11:42 AM (GMT)
Did you design those desktop icons FG?
Film Guru - November 10, 2004 11:53 AM (GMT)
Nah, got 'em from the Official Apple Website. On there are a huuuge set of hands down the best Matrix icons ever.
*goes digging*
Here ya go! :D
DJ-Civic - November 10, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
Nice combo Natrak. :) Where can I get it? :P
Comrade Natrak - November 11, 2004 03:24 AM (GMT)
I got the Visual Style from ThemeXP, it's called 'alienBDb5'. And the Wallpaper is from halo.bungie.org. :)
Film Guru - December 22, 2004 04:33 AM (GMT)
I gave my desktop a complete visual overhaul and I love it to bits. So here it is!

EDIT: I shrunk it down to prevent sideways scrolling. :P
markymark - December 22, 2004 04:53 AM (GMT)

~DC - December 22, 2004 04:54 AM (GMT)

Now, come on guys, why lie to him? It's only going to raise his self esteem. Taking it up from -17 is pretty dangerous. Next he'll start thinking he has respect!!
Film Guru - December 22, 2004 10:48 AM (GMT)
evO, I was about to point out something, but your rank says it all. Thanks for making it clear to everyone how valid your opinion is. :P
evO - December 22, 2004 11:25 AM (GMT)
Oh so sorry. I forgot that my online "rank" on a forum can actually tell other people how good a person i am, and how valid my opinions are. Did you know it also lets people know if i deserve respect?
Take your "rank" for example. It's pretty nice, so everything you say must be 100% correct. And your opinions on everything are exactly what everyone else thinks and feels. Oh yeah, it also means you have a lot of respect.
Doesn't it?!
_MetalliX_ - December 22, 2004 11:32 AM (GMT)
We have ranks now...

Buddy, the fact that you feel some kind of sick need to make fun of others when they have done nothing to provoke you, and are simply making a post showing their desktop picture, says more than enough about you. I don't know what problem you, or Moggo, have with me, but keep it to yourself, and don't bring this forum down because of some immature inferiority complex you may or may not have. I draw such conclusions as I fail to conjur up any other logical reasons for you childish antics displayed here. Claim that I "assume to much" if you will, but please prove me wrong by growing up.
I'm not the only one who sees this, and you prove absolutely nothing by making such posts. Would you like to know why I would respond in such a way to a post that is clearly nothing more than an attempt to provoke me? Because, the way I see it, you can only be one of two things:
A) A little kid who thinks he's cool by taking shots at someone who isn't doing anything offensive. Personally, I hope you're A, because that way you can rest easy knowing you may grow up some day. If not, then sadly you are:
B) A young adult who never grew up, and odds are doesn't have any apparent future. This, like all things, can change, but first one must be aware of the problem. Please, tell me you are A, cause being B really sucks.
This post may be harsh, but it needs to be said. No response, and I emphasise this, no response will change the truth of anything in this post. Feel free to write a long winded response to this, desperately trying to prove how mature you are, yet still support your right to be a total arsewipe to peope who don't warrent it, but it will do nothing. Odds are this post will do nothing but tick you off, and not a single bit of it will get through to you, but that's understandable. Hell, the guy who hate to death has just written this huge post about how immature you are, that's enough to set anyone off. But before writing your epic retort, which I really hope you don't bother with, I plea you to take in this next paragraph.
I do not wish to hate you, I do not wish you to hate me. I don't mind if people disagree with what I say, but I do mind how they express it so. When I come here, I prefer to discuss matters like adults. What does this mean? That we simply say our opinions with consideration and maturity. If you, right now, to agree to stopping this bickering, that would be the end of it. No apologies, nothing required but to stop the pointless shots. It proves nothing and does nothing but say who you are as a person, not me. I would greatly wish to have a truce and simply move on, but you should know that regardless of your choice after reading this, I will no longer react in a hostile way to any attacks from you.
You can choose to keep acting the way you have to me, but I know who I am, so your not changing that. Do you mind me asking, why? That's it really. I don't want enemies, and I know deep down you wouldn't either. So, yeah.
*takes a deep breath* Wow it's good to get that out. I need a drink. :)
EDIT: Oh, and my deepest apologies for the thread topic departure, and for future posts triggered my my own that take it even further off. I promise I will not post again in this topic in a way that will take it off topic.

ey? indiana jones kicks ass!
oh wait, that was a feeble stab at guru. yeah, good one.
evO - December 22, 2004 10:27 PM (GMT)
I'm definately A.
I didn't really think my stab was funny, just the reaction it got from everyone was. You obviously know i wasn't serious. I don't know you, you don't know me. I don't know whether the other members hold respect for you or not. It was just a litte jab that meant nothing, and you almost took it seriously. Sure, it's my personal opinion that the desktop isn't that great, which made it easier to say it, but it's your desktop not mine.
And even if i was right, that they were lying to you, it wouldn't mean anything. Who cares what others think of us, it's an online forum! That's why i come up with such stupid comments, because the result means nothing to me, and i don't care if no one here likes me :) Sure, i'd rather be liked be everyone. But it's not a major issue if i'm not. Moggo may (or may not) be in the same position as me, which is probably why he always provokes people.
If you thought there was any malice in my posts, well maybe there is a bigger gap between generations than what there is thought to be.
