Description: Includes last played too
Machiavelli - April 27, 2004 04:52 AM (GMT)
Also, discuss where you are in the game.
I'm currently playing Lufia. I'm at the ancient cave lvl 7 and I'm looking for the last 6 pieces of allumina.
BrotherEstapol - April 27, 2004 05:12 AM (GMT)
Damn you!!
I was about to make a SNES thread myself!! :P
But yeah, I picked up a US version of Zelda LttP for $15 on Friday night, so I've been playing that. :)
TrinityJayOne - April 27, 2004 07:03 AM (GMT)
I was playing Chrono Trigger (just a rom unfortunately :( ) for a while, then I got cable internet and I found myself not playing it so much, then not at all. I'm right near the end I guess, trying to complete some laboratory dungeon.
Sybatical - April 27, 2004 07:10 AM (GMT)
Super Mario All Stars. B)
Im on World 8 Level 3 on Super Mario Bros. :(
Shadow Link - April 27, 2004 01:11 PM (GMT)
I recently set up the SNES (Two days ago, as a matter of fact) And I've been improving my 1337 charge-character skills in Street Fighter II Turbo: The new challengers. Best SF title ever.
NismoR34 - April 27, 2004 02:21 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately, I sold my Snes. :(
I've been trying to make a decision, download roms, or just buy the console again. I missed out on heaps of Snes titles when I was younger, due to not knowing what was good, and what wasnt. I hadn't even heard of games like Final Fantasy or Zelda, until the next generation. I also want to try Super Metroid..
BrotherEstapol - April 27, 2004 02:31 PM (GMT)
Nismo, Revolution CD in Civic have a heaps of snes games(Metroid being one of them) and a few consoles.($40 each I think)
Pop in next time your in Civic. ;)
Buffoon - April 27, 2004 02:31 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately the only SNES gaming experiences I have are ROM based, to my shame. But let's see... At the moment I'm playing Star Ocean. Found a translation a while back (thank you DeJap!) and I've finally got around to playing it. I've only just started, but it seems pretty cool. Just how cool it is remains to be seen, I guess.

I highly recommend trying the earlier Final Fantasy titles and games such as Terranigma, Lufia, Secret of Mana etc., considering they are quite rare and can be overly priced you should probably flirt with roms when it comes to RPG's like the one's mentioned above.
BrotherEstapol - April 27, 2004 03:18 PM (GMT)
Speaking of ROMs and such, I'm guessing we can freely talk about them here?
CLL - April 28, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
The last game I played on the SNES, was either Urban Strike or Super Mario Kart. I haven't exactly used in a while.
Tr1gger Vandal - April 28, 2004 01:11 AM (GMT)
Last SNES game a played was Bomberman 4. I was addicted to that for a while even though I found it extremely frustrating. I also played Final Fantasy IV fairly recently, but haven't finished it yet. I've had a habit lately of playing games 3/4 of the way through and then stopping for one reason or another. <_<
I'm very keen to get my hands on a copy of Chrono Trigger though, as all I have at the moment is ROM :(
Ghazrat - April 28, 2004 02:32 AM (GMT)
Before christmas I payed the local Cash Converter's a visit, and managed to pick up a few gems. Starwing, DKC, DKC2, Lion King (oh how I wanted that one for ages!) and Kirby's Fun Pack. Only paid $3 for a boxed DKC, cause they accidentally had the price sticker thing for a Loose NES Super Mario Bros on it! :D SCORE! Oh, and I also grabbed an actual loose NES Super Mario Bros. ;) Now, if only I could get a NES. >_>
BrotherEstapol - April 28, 2004 02:53 AM (GMT)
My SNES collection:
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kongs Quest
Starwing
Starfox (US)
Super Mario All-Stars!
The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (US)
I also have an extra controller, and a Converter(so I can play those US games :P ) and a Super Gameboy.
I've been looking for a copy of the Japanese version of Starfox, but as you would expect, they are rather hard to come by. :( (except on Ebay, but that's another story...)
At the moment I'm considering overclocking my SNES so that it plays games at full speed! :P

Man I haven't been to Civic for ages. But thanks for the heads up, I might make a trip out there, just to see what's there. :)
Mach, I think I'll do what you said, and download the roms of the RPG's, as they are harder to find.
Dude - April 28, 2004 07:12 AM (GMT)
The last SNES game I played was Terranigma. Before that was FFIII (American import) and Metroid Prime.
SNES is my favourite console, along side with my Dreamcast.
Woody - April 28, 2004 09:18 AM (GMT)
Haven't played that many SNES games through to never owning one.
I played through Super Metroid on a 'SNES' a fair while back and it ranks up there as one of my favourite games on any platform.
Me and a mate of mine always used to play Co-Op Battletoads. Could never get past the 3rd level or so though. Great game. :D
Dude - April 29, 2004 07:26 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Battle toads was pretty excellent.
I love all of the SNES RPG's. Such as Lufia, Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore.
Moggo - April 29, 2004 11:42 AM (GMT)
Yoshi's Island is in my opinion, the SNES' ultimate game.
It was also my favourite Miyamoto game, and means so much to me, because it consumed my life for about 4 months in 1996, probably one of the defining aspects of my childhood.
The atmosphere of that game can't be put into words, and I just have so much respect and admiration for Shigsy and the fellow designers... it was sad that it was largely overlooked, but at least I played it to death.
I recently downloaded the Rom, but it just isn't the same... long live Yoshi's Island. ;)
Machiavelli - April 29, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
What do think is the most underrated Snes game?
I'll have to go with Uncharted Waters: New Horizons.
MrRae - April 29, 2004 01:34 PM (GMT)
Hopefully I can get my SNES off my sister sometime, because I started to long to play Yoshi's Island again ^_^
Plus I might hunt around for Super Metroid, see what it's like for myself (down with roms! :P)
Chrisł - April 29, 2004 01:52 PM (GMT)
Currently playing Super International Cricket.
Definitely the best sports title on the SNES - and it's a PAL exclusive!
Pauly - April 30, 2004 04:12 AM (GMT)
Last SNES game I played was Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Damm hard game.
Hello - May 1, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
I picked up Super Metroid for $20 the other day. Not too bad, the level design is very cool. However, the friggin' bosses are way too hard! How the fug do you beat the "Morph Bomb" Boss? It's impossible, she's like the 1st boss too, so I'm rooted for the rest of the game.
I played Stunt Race FX again, recently, and she's a hell of a lot of fun. If you haven't already, pick it up now! Very, very good challenge, too.

Stunt Race FX is still my favourite video game of all time. Nothing has been able to beat it for me (
Soul Calibur comes close).
I got it for Christmas 1995 and I still love it this day (although, I sold it in 1997 and didn't get it back until 2003 :( )

Woo!
Machiavelli - May 2, 2004 06:23 AM (GMT)
Ah, Stunt Race FX. Definately a stand out game from my childhood, I love the fact you can take damage and deal damage to other racers...a rare thing back in the Snes days. :)
BrotherEstapol - May 2, 2004 08:33 AM (GMT)
Maybe I should pick it up, I saw a US version (just the cart) for just $20(it might have been $15) the other day.
Str8JaktJim - May 2, 2004 01:42 PM (GMT)
Last SNES game I played was Super Mario World, but that was a few months ago now.

Ah Stunt Race FX. I remember that brilliant game, I was the only one around here who enjoyed it too. I loved racing on all the tracks, and even doing the Stunt mode.
I couldn't put it down at all, till Unirally came along anyway. Then Unirally was finished, and what did I play? Stunt Race FX! If I still had it now, I reckon I would play it weekly..
Hello - May 2, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
Good to see there's some others who dig Stunt Race FX - it really is an awesome game. I laughed at the graphics, when I played it a few weeks back, but there's just so much character and fun that it doesn't really matter that the graphics look average. So much playability! It took me 6 years to finish it too!
I've also played Super Mario Kart, recently, and she's crap. Slow, crap controls, and truly boring.

I actually rank Super Mario Kart as the second best Mario Kart game. It's not as good as GBA's Mario Kart: Super Circuit, but it's better than the challenge-less Mario Kart 64 and the GCN abomination that is Mario Kart: Double Dash.
[m]averick - May 6, 2004 11:43 AM (GMT)
I'm preparing to be lynched for this but I have never played a SNES. Never owned one never played one.
Closest I came to playing one was talking about SNES' with a friend who owned one :P
Pauly - May 6, 2004 01:23 PM (GMT)
*bans [m]averick for never playing a SNES before*
*remembers he's not a mod*
That is a gaming felony. I honestly can't believe you've never played one. It's only (IMO) the best retro console ever, if not, the best console ever.

Man, that was a fucking awesome game. I must have blew hundreds of hours of my life on that game, and never once got sick of it. I still have my own scorebooks that I made up just so I could keep track of all my scores, wickets, etc.
India were the best team, and the Singh brothers were my favourites. You used to be able to hit a 6 every ball down the leg side, and my highest score was somewhere in the 700 region, with my player best something like 289.
Again, that game was part of my childhood and I'll never forget it.
Howzat!
Film Guru - May 8, 2004 08:51 AM (GMT)
After seeing this thread I borrowed my Cousin's SNES along with Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 2. Both are the greatest games of that generation, bar none. Especially the latter. Diddy's Kong Quest changed the way I viewed video games forever...
cd2 - May 8, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
What was so good about DKC2?
Chrisł - May 9, 2004 04:12 AM (GMT)
The DKC games, whilst were undeniably revolutionary because of they way they managed to pump those level of graphics through a SNES, were in the end, just platformers. Good, fun platformers - but only graphically innovative. Their gameplay was solid, but didn't pull any punches. The original Donkey Kong Country was a 16-bit revolution, but it's sequels were uninspired and merely did what was done before, just with new levels and new characters. Admittedly, they followed the philosophy of "when you're on a good thing, stick to it". In short, they're enjoyable games, with excellent graphics - this alone is worthy of praise. DKC series: Innovative, but not groundbreaking.
Yoshi's Island however was an amazingly revolutionary platformer. The title copped a lot of flack for being 'too' different from all previous Mario games, and platformers in general. But this game truly took a risk and it really paid off. Top stuff Nintendo. Pity you haven't anything great since the N64.
Film Guru - May 9, 2004 06:35 AM (GMT)
I never said they were ground breaking personally, but they were brilliantly designed platformers which were hella fun to play. And they had amazing graphics to boot! :D
NismoR34 - May 9, 2004 01:11 PM (GMT)
The DKC series was probably the best games I had on Snes. (popularity wise)
I was quite a wee lad back then, and didn't exactly know much about gaming, and what was good, and what wasn't.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing through all 3 games, and probably played at least one DKC game a day. Out of the series, DKC 2 is probably the best, it had some great challenging levels, and was probably the hardest game out of the 3, so I enjoyed it, because of the challenge.
I would love for a whole new DKC game to hit the GBA or something, but it will probably never happen. I'm thankful they're releasing DKC 2 again, as it will give me the chance to own the game again. It would be nice if DKC 3 was released again too.
Now if only I had my Snes now...
