Title: The Official Metroid Prime Trilogy Thread
Description: METROID PRIME 3 - OUT NOW!
Machiavelli - April 27, 2004 03:58 AM (GMT)
If there is one thing that would upset you about Metroid Prime 2, that you definitly expected, but for some odd reason it didn't end up in the game, or the production was poor (according to you...what would it be? poor mulitplayer? not enough weapons? poor graphics?
For me: I'm not so concerned about the graphics, but more that the single player experience would be taken away. I would hope the experience stays true to the first Prime.
BrotherEstapol - April 27, 2004 04:37 AM (GMT)
Well, I know it's kinda shallow, but from what I've seen, the graphics haven't really been updated as much as I would have liked. :(
I was expecting a similar change to that of Halo to Halo 2.
Basically better lighting effects, and slightly higher resolution textures.
Manny M - April 27, 2004 05:01 AM (GMT)
Ahh quit yer complainin' Estapol.
It looked great when it came out and it'll look great when the sequel gets here.
Honestly, if they use Metroid Prime as a template (which they obviously will), I have nothing to worry about.
Woody - April 27, 2004 06:09 AM (GMT)
On the Nintendo America they have it listed as Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
Useless fact but interesting nonetheless. :)
I'm not really expecting anything more than an updated MP1. Not that thats a bad thing.
~DC - April 27, 2004 07:08 AM (GMT)
Like Mach I am definitely most concerned with the single player element of the sequel. The original was a masterpiece because of the compelling and brilliantly constructed single player campaign and I feel that Retro may focus too time development time on the multiplayer this time round in order to try and add something fresh to make the sequel stand out.
Aslong as Nintendo continue to provide support to Retro with regards to the game and more specifically the single player mode I have faith that they will deliver an even better experience second time around.
tHe LiNk - April 27, 2004 07:37 AM (GMT)
Recollection of weapons. This was a nice bit to have in MP1 and i have no complaints for that part of the game, but i think it would just be an annoyance to go through it again in the sequel. A few new weapons and upgrades wouldn't hurt aswell.
Sybatical - April 27, 2004 08:01 AM (GMT)
Anything.
Metroid Prime is my favourite Next-Gen title, Im just happy that Retro Studios are going to continue the story.
MrRae - April 27, 2004 02:25 PM (GMT)
Same with other people, as long as the single player is as good (well, better really) than the first, I'll be happy. Because realistically, that's all I'd be buying it for, not the multiplayer.
bob the destroyer - April 27, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
if there is one change, i'd like to be able to open doors with higher beams. you know how it was. you'd have the plasma beam but have to keep switching back and forward to progress. why not just let the plasma open ice as well etc. i know the switching looked pretty good but it got annoying after awhile. or even better, they could go ala Super Metroid and once you open a door with the right weapon, it could then be opened with any other. just a thought.
also prettier graphics would be good :P
DJ-Civic - April 27, 2004 03:21 PM (GMT)
Myself and a few others I've talked to about it, feel that multiplayer should not be in MP2. It doesn't fit in with the game, in our opinions. I feel like Retro is putting it in there because... I don't know actually. Who says it's mandatory?
Unlike most, graphics aren't bothering me because the original looked beautiful anyway. How can having the same engine be a bad thing? That's just being a sook! :P
CLL - April 28, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Well it looks like MP2: Echoes will have multiplayer.

Personally, I think it would be better without it. But at the same time, the developers have probably been forced into it, in order to spice up the series and make it more appealing.
Machiavelli - April 28, 2004 03:02 AM (GMT)
This is just something for people who've heard magazines/people speculate that Metroid Prime: Echoes will require a GBA for multiplayer.
It won't. Metroid Prime uses every GCN button except Z (I think). More importantly, it uses all three direction input devices. There is no way it would be playable on a GBA, and I think even suggesting it would be is ridiculous.
I only hope the game won't feature any connectivity options that could otherwise have been implemented in the game, a la Metroid Prime.
MrRae - April 28, 2004 04:34 AM (GMT)
It uses the Z button too, to open up the map :)
Loaded_Toaster - April 28, 2004 06:32 AM (GMT)
I think multiplayer would be cool for Metroid, probably just because I like the multiplayer from games like GoldenEye, and PD, so I'm guessing it would be similar in style to those
Bob's idea of being able to open the doors with any of them, after opening it with the correct one would be good, cos in Metroid, it did get tedious having to swap back all the time ;)
Other than that I just hope the single player mode is awesome like in Metroid :D
Spag - April 28, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
I loved Metroid Prime and if MP2 is as good or better, then it will be a classic. On the surface, multiplayer might not sound too good, but if you just think how talented Retro are and how they could execute then it excites the mind. I mean, I think have a death match with the ability to roll in a ball would be great....Imagine, rolling towards someone and popping up to give them a good ol' plasma beam to the face :D
[I]Ignore the grammar mistakes, it's late and I'm tired
matty - April 28, 2004 02:30 PM (GMT)
Interactive environments. I wan't to be able to have shots fly past the enemy only to hit a tree in the background to have it crash down on top of him. I am not really expecting this kind of thing to be in metroid but I personally feel it should be included in a lot more games.
Naclj - April 28, 2004 03:35 PM (GMT)
more morph ball puzzels, actualy more puzzels in general. action is great but i love using my brain.
id love to say get rid of the directional help leading you to your target but i dont have enough time to get lost for ages.
oh and actualy the biggest thing i want is that if they include the weapon/missel combos that they actualy do something with them.
i hated never using them for any actual constructive purpose especialy the flame thrower

Now THAT's what i'm talking about!
I'm quite interested in the MP aspect of MP2. Should be....interesting
quartz_donkey - April 29, 2004 01:39 PM (GMT)
I don't think Multiplayer is going to ruin Metroid but never would notice if it wasn't there either so there you go. I'd love to see more great and interesting boss fights. But mostly the same kind of compleling but forebodeing atsomphere I just loved playing that game even when I got my arse lost I loved to walk around looking at the enviroments and listening to the music, this is the most important thing to keep for the sequal.
Pauly - April 30, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
A good storyline and some new upgrades would be good. I don't think the multiplayer aspect will be any good and I'm hoping that they haven't diverted their attention away from the single player. The graphics are still great. One thing I hate is when you kill a horde of space pirates and advance to the next room, only to realise you went through the wrong door and need to re enter the room. The space pirates spawn again straight away. A bit annoying especially when your on low health but that's metroid for you and I doubt they will change the formula this late in the series.

30/4/2004 - IGN Cube: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes detailsJust some new details from IGN Cube. Sounds pretty interesting especially the light and dark concept whatever that does and the new Samus 'hunter'.
Machiavelli - May 5, 2004 11:57 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else think that the planet MP2 takes place on is another Chozo world? The Chozo were very advanced and probably colonized a lot of worlds. Tallon IV was a sanctuary away from technology. There were probably very advanced Chozo cities on other planets. Any ideas?
AmyRose - May 5, 2004 02:14 PM (GMT)
I think it's great that there's going to be a multiplayer option! The more Metroid the better!
I love Metroid Prime and all I can hope for is that the sequel somehow improves on it :)
Cerebral - May 8, 2004 12:02 AM (GMT)
This looks like it'll harbour the same kind of tense atmosphere as in Metroid Fusion, what with Samus beiong chased around by the silver...Samus guy...thing... <_<
The point is, it'll make for some suspenseful gameplay and ambushes that'll keep you on your toes. Like the idea. :)
TrinityJayOne - May 8, 2004 01:26 AM (GMT)
That sounds a bit like Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, where your character's main...nemesis (pun intended :P) pops up when you least expect and/or want him to. Of course that was a horror/survival game, I doubt the next Metroid title will have the same shock value.

Actually, I played Metroid Fusion and although it lacked shock value, it still didn't fail to make you shit your pants, especially considering it's on a small screen and the graphics are hardly as detailed. I'd love to see something like that with MP2, even though I haven't played the original...
TrinityJayOne - May 8, 2004 04:47 AM (GMT)
Actually it does have a bit of shock value, although it's more "oh shit!!!" shock than brown trousers shock. For example...
| QUOTE (SPOILERS (highlight to read)) |
| When you bust into the Space Pirate compound for the first time (right before you get the heat vision visor) and the baby metroids smash out of their containment spheres. (too much Resident Evil has tought me that anything in a containment sphere is bound to break out right when you don't want it to ;) ) It was even better when they started killing off the space pirates for you, then you realise that once they're all gone, you'd be next. @_@ Exit, stage left! |
Shadow Knight - May 12, 2004 03:45 AM (GMT)
Afetr watching the amazing Echoes video, i can't wait. Heck i'm even going to start replaying Metroid Prime. It is interesting if the title is Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, then it would be an actual sequel to the original Metroid Prime.
Spag - May 13, 2004 02:27 AM (GMT)
Metroid Prime was an awesome single player game - and it lasted a good 25/30 hours aswell. MP2 is LONGER + it has multiplayer so it is really shaping up to be THE game of 2004 (or 2005). Bring it on!

Completed her in 14:37 1st time through :P But, yeah, Metroid is easily one of the more challenging/value for money titles on the Cube.

What was your completion rate tho?
Hello - May 14, 2004 11:35 PM (GMT)
Yo, 77%. But that 14:37 would more likely be about 20 hours, as sometimes I'd do a bit of an exploration, see where I had to go, than quit, and re-boot.

The release of Mteroid Prime 2: Echoes in America is currnetly November 15th, which is under a week after Halo 2 is released! This also means we could see Echoes release before the end of the year!

Negative. The original was released in the US in November and the PAL version was delayed to March/April the very next year. So I would predict the same thing would occur this time around. I don't particular care though if the sequel recieves the same glowing praise as the original I won't have any hesitation in importing and then selling of the copy before the PAL version arrives. ;)

Yes but Retro were doing minor tweaks to the PAL version hence the delay. ;) I'm not saying that it'll definately hot our shores this year i'm just saying there's a chance.
The differnce in the HUD:
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
BrotherEstapol - May 16, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
Although they made the PAL version harder, and added in Voice acting, that didn't make up for it being 4-5 months late.
Hopefully they can get their act together quicker this time and make an English only PAL version for the UK and Oz instead of waiting till it had every language in Europe on it to release it. -_-
Hello - May 16, 2004 07:20 AM (GMT)
That's the one thing I didn't really like about Prime 1: the "wrap-around" perspective. And now, with Prime 2, Retro has given her just a little more "wrap" - annoying.
But blah, it still should be kick arse.
BrotherEstapol - May 16, 2004 11:38 AM (GMT)
Why don't you just change the opacity of the HUD, I'm pretty sure that the perspective is just an illusion. ;)

Didn't you know that the timer doesn't tick in the game when you are scanning anything, reading log books, paused, saving ect. It only records when you are playing and IGN suggest you would have to multiply your time by about 1.5 for an accurate time.
