Title: Halo
Description: who plays I do and it's fun
quartz_donkey - June 12, 2004 01:36 PM (GMT)
This game is so much fun on-line boardband you will need and there's only 4 severs n Oz but still hope to it. (Thought tthere might be a few due to all the RedvsBlue fans)
BrotherEstapol - June 12, 2004 02:02 PM (GMT)
I'd play it more if it didn't stress my Video card to max. <_<
For it to perform well I have to turn specular off. >_<
Kaorikaze Chimi - June 13, 2004 08:47 AM (GMT)
I think I saw you playing by the name of Quartz Donk the other day..assuming that's you.
I'm ExS=)Kao..
tHe LiNk - June 13, 2004 10:32 AM (GMT)
Halo single player normally gives me absolutely garbage fps, but the multiplayer gets 60fps+ (all high detail), so i always try to encourage it at lans :D
_MetalliX_ - June 18, 2004 12:49 PM (GMT)
Well I played it today at a LAN and honestly not that great... being a die hard Halo fan I thought I would never have to say this, but it is honestly shit. People do nothing but nade you, most don't even try to shoot at close range, just throw a nade and hope for the best. People just mindlessly spray with the fuel rod gun. Sniping is too easy, especially on the wide open maps. Spawning isn't balanced, with people just mostly killing you right after you respawn.
However things I do like are the inclusion of the fuel rod and flamethrower. Banshees (ofcourse). Vehicles are now much easier to drive. And there are rocket hogs! ^_^

Well, if you judged every game by who played it, then every multiplayer game in the world could be shit.
Seriously, just because people were fucktards and threw grenades at you, doesn't make the game shit itself shit. ;)
And of course sniping would be easy, hell, aiming itself is shitloads easier, put down to one thing: Mouse + Keyboard.
So simply put, the people at that LAN must have be tossers. :)
Anyway, you just sound like a bitter Xbox player who got beaten at his own game. :P
quartz_donkey - June 20, 2004 04:07 AM (GMT)
People can be tards but playing on-line is nothing like you described for the most part. People will fight hard up -close and sure they'll toss a 'nade or two after all it will kill as much as a load of bullets, doing both is my dealie.
Sniping is deadly but I think it is well balanced. Four shots in the gun, 12 bullets with the gun 4 each pick up there after, limilting view(great for stinking up on the sniper for a one hit kill bash to the back of the head).
The fuel rod gun(or n00b cannon) is a really bad addition IMO. It's firing rate is too fast the damage too high and the splash too big. The flamethrower is great, runs throght the ammo, very limited range but damage plus. Its damage is blances against it's shortcomings, unlike the n00b cannon which is just overkill.

Oh god, whenever I see a clan tag, I run in fear.
I've just bought the game and are playing on GA and Iinet servers, occasionally making my own servers.
My game name is Linzy, if you see me, give me a yell!
On the subject, who here has Custom Edition? Any recommended maps?
We should all have a game sometime!

I may aswell put it here...
My neighbour got XBConnect and we have been playing Halo online alot lately, and I really need to get back into the swing of things, in my prime I easily defeated 3 others in a 3 v 1 match, now I'm finding it hard just to be in the top 2. :(
This Thursday is Xbox LAN day, so it should be fun! ^_^

I played Halo on PC at a Sydney LAN and it sucked majorly. It was piss easy. I weas playing against people you could easily stereotype as nerds so they had no excuse for the arse whooping I handed out.
Seriously, I've only ever played it on Xbox before that LAN and the people I played against were good at FPS's (CS, CAD etc) and it was just so easy to kill them. Whether it was the invisibility plus the rocket launcher on Hang em High or the shotgun plus melee combo on blood gulch, I found it overly easy. It just does not compare to Xbox Halo.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that in my experience every FPS I have played is usually better on a console. I don't like the Mouse/Keyboard it makes it too easy and takes the skill out of the game.
Oh yeah another thing, grenades suck. Only poncy losers who are no good at Halo feel the need to throw grenades everywhere. They are too easy to avoid....

In my experience, Online play tends to be where the challenge lies, not LAN. (they make look nerdy, but most 'em can't play for shit)
As for the mouse+keyboard bashing(BLASPHEMY!!! :P ), try playing something a little faster, like UT2004, Halo is rather slow.

You can't judge a game from playing one bunch of people, dude.
If you go online, you'll see that it's not all incredibly easy when you're getting your arse kicked. Just like in games like Counterstrike, grenades are overused by newbies, and always never hit... yet deadly when used by a good player.
[m]averick - July 8, 2004 11:04 AM (GMT)
I'd like an opinion: who actually uses grenades on Halo? I hardly ever use them (I usually forget I have them) and I find that it doesn't add to the gaming experience.
Grenades only ever serve a purpose when you are trying to coax someone out.
Who uses grenades?
Manny M - July 8, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
Are you talking about using grenades in the context of single player or multiplayer? Because I used them in the single player campaign all the time.
*thinks back to throwing sticky grenades*

I'll almost always use nades, I use them when I'm just about dead, often throwing one off just before your opponent kills you, it will land around or near your dead body, and because of the compulsory habits shared by most gamers of running over to the body of the player they just killed, it kills them.
Its also a good way of getting people off your tail, by throwing it off a rock as you run by it so it goes behind and blows up in your opponents face.
I played the funnest, albeit cheapest round of online Halo last night. Via XBConnect there were four people on my xbox and another across the net. He wanted one of us on his team to make it even, so we used him as a spy. Watching the enemy via a "spy cam" in the top right of the screen is pretty strange and cool. So we spent the entire game hiding around BG and wathing him through his teammate. Pretty damn funny.
Also a pwnage update, yesterdays Halo Xbox LAN saw me playing 1 v 6 in BC, my speciality. I managed 11 kills before any of my opponents had managed 5. :woot:

Hang em High is where I usually carve up (on Xbox though. Hey I'm just using this thread as a vehicle for Halo discussion :P )
Throwing grenades before you die is what a lot of people do. The thing about grenades I don't like is when people throw them constantly. It's lame, as it provides you a chance at an easy pick-off.
As for maps I only play Hang em High and Blood Gulch, the other maps don't inspire me. Whats your favourite level? I'd go with Hang em High...
_MetalliX_ - July 9, 2004 08:06 AM (GMT)
Favourtie map? Definantly Battle Creek. For such a small map it has so many cool things in it. You can jump on top of both the bases, and something I have done many times is grabbed the flag and jumped out those weird windows which most noobs can't get through. You can jump to the rocket launcher from one of the sniper caves, and from the other, you can jump onto the rock wall and go even higher. Another sneak tactic I used for the first time yesterday was grab the invisibility and duck under a certain section of the creek where you are totally submerged, there is no chance of them seeing you, so after I let them get bored, I popped out and meeled a few. :P
Worst map would have to be that Chiron thing, I mean wtf were Bungie thinking when they made that! :nooo:
[m]averick - July 10, 2004 11:33 AM (GMT)
Me and some mates have had some great battles on that Wizard level. After saying that I dislike grenades what I'm gonna say is very hypocritical. When we played Wizard we were only allowed to throw grenades or use melee. It was a great novelty and really quite funny.
A level that would be awesome in a big 16 player CTF fest would be that Sidewinder. Blood Gulch can be a bit small even with just 10-12 people in it.
fishonthecarpet - July 11, 2004 01:45 PM (GMT)
Best use for grenades:
- Plasma on warthog!
- When newbies get on a warthog turret during a duel :P Idiots.
Halo Custom Edition hasn't been getting much coverage in Australia, so it's good to see an Australian server is up.
You'll need to download the

Please come and join the server!

I know its a bit late but I only noticed it now and I just had to mention it....*ahem*
Wasn't there a certain someone on that team of yours in "1v6" at bc? someone like...me?<<<< It was an 8 player LAN you know, not 7.
But yeh it was pwnage. B)
_MetalliX_ - August 19, 2004 06:25 AM (GMT)
Err no actually, that was before it when you exited the game, and everyone else changed team, which turned into a 1 vs 6 BC. Just before we had lunch. Remember?

I hate playing Multi On XBrick. If you get the invisability, you arn't invisable. A quick look at your opponent's screen, and you're gone...
f15active - August 21, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
Oh yeh i remember, but only half of the people even had an xbox, two of them hadn't even played halo before, and the rest of my friends were just plain noobs. So you MIGHT have been playing 2 decent players but in reality, they all sucked.
_MetalliX_ - August 21, 2004 03:12 AM (GMT)
So back when the story was me and you it was pure pwnage. And now that you get your memory back they are all noobs? Your just jealous.

Maybe you should play with less dastardly people then? :P
