Title: Normal or Inverted?
Description: We're talkin' crosshairs here.

[DZ] - June 3, 2004 06:32 AM (GMT)
So, yeah, I was playing Time Crisis 3 last night and couldn't get the damned crosshair where I wanted cos it was not inverted. Whenever I play FPS, I prefer inverted mode better than normal up-up, down-down.

Cast your vote and tell me WHY is it some persons like inverted more than normal controls!

Ghost Boy - June 3, 2004 06:35 AM (GMT)
I must say I'm an inverted man myself. It's amazing just how retarded you become when you try and do it the opposite way.

[DZ] - June 3, 2004 06:43 AM (GMT)
LOL! Yeah!
It also affects the way you scroll the crosshair left and right too! It gets really frustrating! :x

Shadow Link - June 3, 2004 08:05 AM (GMT)
That depends: For console FPS, I like the inverted crosshair, but I prefer normal on the PC.

Comrade Natrak - June 3, 2004 08:31 AM (GMT)
I don't play many FPS but I really haven't really ventured outside the generally default, normal, setting. It suits me fine.

quartz_donkey - June 3, 2004 08:43 AM (GMT)
Normal my good man. Up is up and down is down.
What can I say altough on console I like the stick inverted. Just like Shadow Link. errrr

Pauly - June 3, 2004 09:12 AM (GMT)
Normal on both PC and consoles. Just feels right.

_MetalliX_ - June 3, 2004 09:25 AM (GMT)
It depends, I know when I played Crimson Skies I had it inverted, being an aeroplane game it just felt more comfortable. But for other games, I usually prefer normal, as in, un-inverted.

Machiavelli - June 3, 2004 09:46 AM (GMT)
Inverted only for Flying games. Other than that, not a chance in hell. Can't stand it.

[m]averick - June 3, 2004 09:55 AM (GMT)
Inverted all the way baby....

Spag - June 3, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)
I use both and it varies for each game. However, I use inverted often then normal

Iroquois - June 3, 2004 10:29 AM (GMT)
Inverted. I grew up on games which had inverted controls and it's always seemed kind of natural.

Cerebral - June 3, 2004 11:27 AM (GMT)
Bah. Who playts normal alignment? I can't imagine playing non-inverted. It'd just screw up my perception of reality.

Console and PC FPS both require an inverted option for me to play half decently. :)

Film Guru - June 3, 2004 11:41 AM (GMT)
I can't live without inverted. Somehow doing it the "normal" way feels, well...wrong. Very wrong. I see the controller like plane controls, so in that way, inverted makes perfect sense...

Buffoon - June 3, 2004 12:11 PM (GMT)
I always thought I was a staunch invertalist (er, it's a word, honest!) as every FPS I've played in the last few years (all console games) I've played inverted. But then yesterday I played Far Cry on PC at an Internet Cafe (my PC being useless for gaming nowadays). I immediately set the mouse to inverted but I quickly realised that I just couldn't play like that. So, I'm an invertalist for consoles and a defaultalist (er, it's another word, honest!) for PC games. Like Shadow Link.

By the way, DZ, you were playing Time Crisis 3 with a control pad!? You're insane.

OldSkOoL - June 3, 2004 12:26 PM (GMT)
I'm all natural.

DJ-Civic - June 3, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
If there isn't an inverted option, I won't play it. :P So inverted all the way.

BrotherEstapol - June 3, 2004 01:51 PM (GMT)
Is FPS Up is up, Down is down.

But in flying games it's different, forward is lean forward, and back is lean back.

It makes sence. ;)

MrRae - June 3, 2004 05:28 PM (GMT)
I used to be all about the inverted.

But for some reason it all changed this generation of consoles, don't know why, but I can't stand inverted anymore *shrugs*

Ghosty - June 3, 2004 11:37 PM (GMT)
It doesn't really matter to me - I find it very easy to adapt. In other words, I'm a very quick learner ;)

Other people, (like my Dad, for instance) just can't get used to inverted, so he's a bit of a normal man himself. It doesn't really bother me what the game is though, because I'm easy, either way.

Psssst: DZ, you should add that option to the poll; 'I'm easy' :P

CLL - June 3, 2004 11:50 PM (GMT)
Depends on the game. For just about everything (ie. shooter) than I prefer normal. But for flight sims, I prefer inverted though normally I'll be using a joystick for this.

SMIThouse - June 4, 2004 03:45 AM (GMT)
I'm an inverted man. It's just a much more natural feeling with a joystick.

[DZ] - June 4, 2004 08:15 AM (GMT)
Hmm, people, we aren't talking flight sims here, but crosshairs! :|
And, yeah Buffoon, I play TC3 with the pad. *sigh* I still haven't got a G-Con! :(

Little Dude - June 4, 2004 10:02 AM (GMT)
I am a normal man...

HOWEVER...

Whenever i play either Goldeneye or Perfect Dark I can only ever play well with Inverted.

It used to be inverted all the way.. but these days it I choose normal.
But with games from my inverted days i can still only use inverted in them.

But never mind me...
I am one of those people that HAS to use Legacy controls in Halo (for example the standard Goldeneye ones.. Left stick runs and turns)

I can't move with Left stick as strafe controls without looking into the sky and spinning in circles

Cubeoid - June 4, 2004 11:16 AM (GMT)
I always used to use inverted for the N64 but then I found myself using the normal setting on the new consoles. Now I prefer normal but can do inverted in only a slightly retarded manner.

Crosshairs are mainly associated with fighter planes/jets.

Very rarely will you see an army soilder with a floating crosshair in front of him. :P

The floating crosshair is usually attached to a gun, y'know. :P

Usually only Sniper Rifles and large guns(Vehicle mounted guns and Portable Missle launchers) have actual crosshairs. ;)

Like I said, crosshairs are mainly assosiated with war-planes.

quartz_donkey - June 5, 2004 07:01 AM (GMT)
How do you like your iron sights then BrotherEstapol normal or inverted. :cyborg:

finalazy - June 5, 2004 08:16 AM (GMT)
I use normal. Always move the wronmg way when using inverted but htat's probably because I'm not used to it.

rampaging_geek - June 5, 2004 09:48 AM (GMT)
I long, long time ago I used inverted. Then one day I started playing a new FPS where it was set to Normal by defualt and for some reason I didn't change it. From that faithul day, I became normal for life.

Shadow Knight - June 5, 2004 11:01 PM (GMT)
Except for Halo, i use inverted all the time. Why i can't use Inverted for Halo is beyond me.

JJJames7 - June 8, 2004 03:30 AM (GMT)
Normal are way more easier to use, and they feel normal.

Whilst playing Transformers, I thought that there must be an easier way to shoot! Moving the left stick to walk and the right to aim just didn't feel right. I think Konami had a good thing going with MGS2; that's the way all third persoin shooters should be.

[DZ] - June 8, 2004 05:28 AM (GMT)
Wow, there are more normal people on this forum than I thought!

Really?! Ponders as to why the control scheme is called 'normal' then doesn't it?
