Title: Making the switch
Description: PC-TV/TV-PC

JJJames7 - June 1, 2004 03:59 AM (GMT)
I've been pondering over making the switch over to PC gaming, but still get one or both of the handheld consoles.

I'm getting a new PC soon, and I will be getting a good video card, so I'm not really sure if I want to spend more money on consoles. I think it's a little bit of a dielemma! Does anyone else know if this is a good switch to make?

It all depends on what you would use more. Personally, I say PC gaming comes first. But if you can, buy at least one console to get the other half of the gaming experience. :)

It really depends on the games you play it really really does the games are the only way to make the decision. THE GAMES. The mouse and keyboard combo is great for a great many games though. Money is the only real problem upgrading you PC comes importamt to you if you like playing FPS or a lot of other gams these days. So just how much money do you have.

Answer the following questions:

Do you generally like more PC games than console games?
Do you like to play games on your PC more than infront of your TV?
Which upcoming gaming platform schedule has you most excited?
Are there more games you want now for the PC or consoles?

After you have answered the above you should have a reasonable insight as to which platform appeals to you the most. Problem solved!

PC's provide twice the gaming experience of a console, at only 10 times the price, and 6,000 times the hassle!

If you have limitless funds then go for PC, a good rig and net connection gets you some great games, but if you can't invest in the required specs, consoles are still really good.

It all comes down to funds, consoles are the cheaper route, although can be just as fun :)

I've got a pretty powerful computer and I still don't use the PC for games that much. It all comes down to preference. A good internet connection is also recommened for PC gaming.

SOLD!!!

Seriousley Sytadel has a point. PC gaming can generally be a better experience but with continual upgrades and other assorted PC hassles I don't beileve it tops console gaming. Still personal opinion.

If you have the funds, PC gaming offers a better experience, but then you'll miss out on console games. Better to get a good PC and a console and enjoy the best of both worlds. :D

I think that just might be the most correct thing you've ever said bar none. :thumbsup:

I get my PC game on and my console game on. It's totally not that hard. ;)

Do you generally like more PC games than console games?
Don't really know, because I only used to play Starcraft (God bless) on our woeful PC.

Do you like to play games on your PC more than infront of your TV?
Definatly! I should be getting the Samsung 172x which is a 19" beauty.

Which upcoming gaming platform schedule has you most excited?
There is literally no information on the PS3, GCNext or the XBox 2, but I am very excited about the PSP and the DS.

Are there more games you want now for the PC or consoles?
Well... this is the reason. I'm losing interest in gaming (gaming in general), fast.

I'm not playing GBA SP, PS2 or GCN at all, and the only games I am really looking forward to are NFSU2, The Sims 2 and GTA San Andreas (*twitches*). This is the main reason- I mean, do I really want to buy two-three consoles and not gte anything for them? I want something that will fill my gaming needs.

I like the way FPS are on PC, but can someone tell me how the following games play on a PC?

Third Person Shooters
Racers
RPGs
Stealth

Get a superfast PC and play emulations! ;)

quartz_donkey - June 8, 2004 06:48 AM (GMT)
Stealth thats a type of game now bloody young uns the PC has the best westen RPGs (Morrowind, Fallout 1 & 2, Arcurm[sp?], Baldars Gate 1 & 2) Racing games(racers what are you on gee) are great and better if you have shitloads of cash for a steering whell of good quality same with thrid person games get a good pad(or a good adapter for your PS2 or other pad) and your good to go. Note that "stealth" games are third person. Also note that PC games get MODs and that can be very very cool. Or crappy.

I meant for the current batch of consoles. <_<

Simple, save the money for something else.

Third Person Shooters = Great
Racers = Average
RPGs = Good
Stealth = Average

PC gaming is my favorite platform of them all. And I have a PC from 2002, too.

Buffoon - June 8, 2004 01:30 PM (GMT)
I'm definitely aiming at getting a decent PC in the next few months, but I really don't see it supplanting console gaming. But for really complex games you need a PC. I'm excited by the prospect of being able to play stuff like Railroad Tycoon 3 such things. Also, there are plenty of PC games I've missed out on in the past that I'm looking forward to playing... and they're cheap. Arcanum, Homeworld, Deus Ex... And of course the PC is the best platform for FPS's (with a few exceptions). But Half Life 2, Unreal Tournament, Doom 3 (it could be good!), that's the sort of thing I want a PC for.

Well, the "Build your own PC" in the latest Hyper>> was okay. I might just make one myself!... My current PC is too old
