Title: Monitors
Description: What do you currently use?

Ghost Boy - May 31, 2004 04:58 AM (GMT)
Just interested to know what other people on Evo are using to view... well... Evo. :P

If you can find a picture, don't hesitate to stick it in. You can also tell us what you like/dislike about it.

I'm currently using a Packard Bell SlimView 500. It's a 15" TFT screen that is the best monitor I've ever used in my life. I would've preferred a 17" screen so I could run a higher resolution, but in the end $1000 was about as high as I could stretch on a monitor. It features an absolute tonne of adjustments and has been rock solid since I got it about 18 months ago. TFT screens are often looked down upon as being unreliable and not able to show colours accurately, but I feel the people who say this haven't used a properly configured one.

When doing things such as graphic design and the printing them out, they look exactly like they do on my screen. When I take the same image and stick it on another computer, the colours look a little off most of the time.

Because it's a flat screen, there is no problem with the picture falling off the side of the monitor of distorting around the edges.

I'm running it at 1024x768 simply because that's the standard most web pages are built to and it's a comfortable working size.

I can't find a good pic of it at the moment, but I'll update this post if I do.

What's everyone else on?

I use my beloved eMac...so yeah, it's just one slick-as looking white box with a screen. So my computer is my monitor. I run my screen at 1024x768 cause, as Gregg said, it seems to work best with just about every webpage. :)

I'd grab a screen but, and I'll be honest here, I dunno if Macs can take screens. Is there anyone who can help?

I have a Dell monitor. It's either 15 or 16 inch, has trinitron technology and it's a flat screen.

I'm on a 17" Hitachi, running at 1152x864 at 75hz.

Gets the job done.

I had a 17" LCD, (brand new) but I didn't like it cause it blurred too much.

If I get an LCD in the future, I plan to get a widescreen one with a 16ms refresh rate.

Fujitsu ErgoPro e173 17" in 1024x768 at 75Hz. It's a CRT and kinda old but hey it works why 1024x768 cause it is the best res for my moniter.(higher for games but thats different)

I bought a new 17" TFT screen a few months ago....and all for a measly $350. :cheese:

It's an IBM T710...and quite frankly, it rocks.

19" Auriga CRT. 'Tis pretty good. My next one will probably be a TFT though, so that it can fit on the desk in my room.

21" NEC CRT. I like it. =)

I use a 17" Acer 77c monitor at 1024x768, decent monitor and except for its problems over the past few months its had a good few years lifespan. Don't know how you guys can stand 1024x768 on a 15", i used to have the same setup, and all it gave me was eye strain :|

I have an 'Auriga' 17" CRT monitor. :S
1152x864 on 75 herts.

Eventually I'm planning to get either a flat screen 19" CRT or just wait a little longer till the 17" LCD screens get perfected. (The new 12ms response technology is an excellent step in the right direction, all that needs to be done is some ironing out of "dead pixel" issues.)

18.1" DELL UltraSharp LCD Monitor

Apparently its refresh rate is slow, apparently 60fps is good, which it can achieve easily, but for those who complain, I set this challenge, make a gif with 60 frames, on one of these, ask someone to put a number, and then make it so the gif loops, and plays the 60 frames in one second, if you can see the number, I will stand corrected, until then, don't hassle the monitor.

What are you babbling about?

60hz hurts my eyes went I'm not looking directly at the monitor(i.e. when I look at the keyboard), my eyes seem to 'miss' a few frames that the monitor is displaying and it looks as if the monitor is flickering.

75hz is no problem, 85hz is excelent, and 100hz+ is beautiful.

And 60hz on a TV is different to 60hz on a Monitor, they refresh at the same rate, but they display the images differently.
A TV blurs frames, while a (CRT) Monitor is more crisp.

LCD's blur also, but that's only if the response time is more and 16ms, any less and it's the same as a CRT.

When you go shopping for an LCD, and you want to play games on it, make sure that the response time is no more than 16ms, otherwise, your wasting your money.

Feel free to correct me on any of that though, as I'm sure I got something wrong. :P

EDIT: Also, if my memory serves me right, the human eye cannot notice anything higher than 100fps.

100fps? I heard only 60...

All I'm saying is that my mates are bagging out my monitor for all these stupid reasons, but they are really just green with envy but are too uptight to admit it.

And honestly BE, I had no idea what you were blabbing on about either! :P

But that is because your monitor has a refresh rate of >20ms :P

Well I am running a Philips 107E 17" monitor, at 1024x768 @ 85hz, although I some times put it at 1280x1024 @ 60hz when I am doing some editing work.
