Title: Blood
Description: Do you give?(bleeding is easy)
quartz_donkey - May 26, 2004 05:15 AM (GMT)
Bleeding is very easy, you go in, fill out some forms, and then answer some questions and finally sit there.
If you don't like the idea of donating, think of it as selling your blood for cheese and crackers, biscuits or sausgue rolls.
Perhaps you could use blood donation to help balance all the bad Karma. Bad Karma from you know kicking dogs and stuff or I don't know all those bad thoughts 'bout Moggo, you know you have them.
I gave today because well I'm not doing much of anything else(see bitch board) and I do it as often as I can and work permits.
Anyway donate 'cause bleedind is easy.
This is a unpaid advertisment.
Gnomey_g - May 26, 2004 05:31 AM (GMT)
No, I don't give blood, I'm actually not allowed to because of something to do with being a Pom and mad cow disease. My parents used to give blood until after the Mad Cow disease scare when they weren't allowed to. I still wouldn't be able to bring myself to give blood, I'm very squeamish so the sight of even a small amount of blood gives me the willies.
Manny M - May 26, 2004 06:18 AM (GMT)
I don't.
It's not the fact that I don't want to, in fact I find myself fascinated looking at the vial fill up with my blood, but I can't.
I'm enemic and thalasemic...My blood is really thin, and I can't afford to give any away....so hands off!
quartz_donkey - May 26, 2004 06:26 AM (GMT)
So two vaild excuces from four no's. Come on we can do better than this. I can understand if theres a reason you can't or even if you don't want to. But pure laziness is not so good.
Bleeding is easy.
Film Guru - May 26, 2004 06:29 AM (GMT)
Sadly I don't as of yet. And no, I'm not going to come up with an excuse because I simply don't have one. I do wish to. In fact, this topic has reminded me to begin doing so. Cheers donkey man.
Ghost Boy - May 26, 2004 07:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I give blood several times a year. I'm an O, so there is a very high demand for my blood (being the most common type and all) and it's always the one they have least of.
Good to get free cookies too! Oh yeah and possibly saving a life has its upside.
~DC - May 26, 2004 07:43 AM (GMT)
I'm a reasonably rare blood type; A positive, but have never given blood. I guess it's because I only put up with needles when absolutely required. :P
Shadow Link - May 26, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
For some strange reason, I get all queezy reading/talking about bleeding: However, when I cut myself/get blood tests, I'm really calm, and actually watch the blood ooze (Much like shots).
I've had one blood test, and it didn't seem so bad: I might give blood soon.
Spag - May 26, 2004 08:20 AM (GMT)
As is the case for many, I have not given blood but have no reason not to and will make an effort to in the future.
Cerebral - May 26, 2004 08:35 AM (GMT)
Can't say I've given blood before.
In fact, I haven't had a blood test yet. Blood just seems to stay in my body for some reason.
It will become a possibility in the future. T'is a good cause.
Sytadel - May 26, 2004 10:22 AM (GMT)
No. There's lots of good causes out there I don't really have anything to do with, and I'm not really in the mood to feel guilty about it either. I mean, if I donate blood, it's not going to get the Disabled Sports Association or Retard Educators off my back.
Machiavelli - May 26, 2004 10:34 AM (GMT)
I have a serious phobia of needles, so no.

Me too. ;)
Tribaldemon - May 26, 2004 01:21 PM (GMT)
Call me apathetic, but I really have no intention to give blood. Needles dont bother me and nor does bleeding, despite how evil it may seem I dont really give a damn whether someone needs it. Pending any accidental breakage of skin its staying in me.
quartz_donkey - May 27, 2004 12:06 AM (GMT)
I'm glad this thread has inspired some to give, as was it's purpose. Guilt shouldn't be a motovation(although it is) but it might be worth remembering this won't cost you money only time(of which I have plenty). Go Greg the universal donor, me I'm A positive and give 'bout once a month(not whole blood but plasma and plaetlets[sp]).
Ohhh good on all those how are going to give it a go tell us 'bout it.
Bleeding is easy.
Beast - May 27, 2004 02:10 AM (GMT)
I don't give blood and don't have any good reason. I'm not afraid of needles or blood and I probably have time - it's just not a big priority for me. I dunno maybe I'll go do it - but it's just not a big issue for me - there are lots of other organisations I'd rather give my time to I guess.

Me three.
I probably would do it if someone actually came up to me and asked me to do so. But I'm not going to actively seek out a blood donation centre.
SMIThouse - May 27, 2004 03:31 AM (GMT)
I think I will when I am the legal age. free cookies? definatly then!
I'm a caring sharing person ;)
TrinityJayOne - May 27, 2004 03:39 AM (GMT)
Needles don't frighten me per se, and I don't run screaming at the sight of one, but I certainly don't like them. The only person getting any of my blood is a vampire. :P
COME GET ME YOU IMMORTAL BASTARD, I WANNA LIVE FOREVER TOO!!!
Beast - May 27, 2004 04:36 AM (GMT)
I'm happy to say that I don't know anybody who likes needles. I don't like needles - but having done blood tests and had a number of needles in the past, they don't worry me at all - it's just minor discomfort - a little sting and usually for a good reason that makes it worth while (and you feel so good afterwards... ;))

What if it's you that needs the blood? :P
You'll be pretty glad that someone donated a litre of their’s at some point in time so you can continue your life.
quartz_donkey, I'm begging you to add "Bleeding is easy!" to your signature. That is so your line - that line that you say... er... all the time!
To those that are considering giving blood, I fully support the idea and can tell you you'll feel so good after doing it. Knowing that you're helping out others in the best possible way is a good thing.
I also recommend going with someone who's donated before for your first time. It'll make it that much easier. Think of the cookies too!
Also, like quarts said, you don't have to give straight blood. You can give just the plasma, which isn't quite as full on.
I'm just messing with you, Tribal. It is voluntary so no one has to do it if they don't want. You shouldn't need a reason to keep a needle out of your arm. :cheese:
Tribaldemon - May 27, 2004 11:18 AM (GMT)
Understood Gregg, and Ive looked at that perspective. I honestly feel that since I dont give blood I dont deserve blood, and since I still dont plan to give blood I'm happy to concede that I should not be the recipient of blood. Chances are if Im in desperate need of blood its due to some reckless thing I've done and I deserve what happens. The only time I would donate any part of me would be in the situation that a family member or loved one desperately needed it. If some insane accident happened and I received blood, Id probably donate the amount I received back over time, but thats as far as I'd go.
I fully support blood donorship, I just dont plan on doing it
josh - May 27, 2004 11:34 AM (GMT)
I don't give blood because i'm a complete pussy who will avoid a needle at all costs.
quartz_donkey - May 27, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
Errr maybe someone could edit the poll and put in a plan to.
Tribaldemon thats kinda werid but hey good for you.
Anyone had there first donation recently. My first time was fun. Some guy was in he city handing out leaflets and I just went up and asked him where do I go. So off I went with my room mate to give blood. Got there filled out the forms, room mate won't donate, his choice, but I digress off I went and donated and my non-blood giving room mate is getting the free food. As far as I'm concerned he ate off of my blood.:P Then after it was all over the lunch lady(the lady who gives out the food) kept telling me and my room mate were brothers. So yeah.
Bleeding is easy. Also look down Greg.

I'm pretty much with Syt on this one. There are many ways to be charitable; just because you don't donate blood doesn't mean you don't contribute to the less fortunate in other ways.
I do give at regular times though. Not blood, but donations of money, sometimes old toys and clothes and stuff, etc. Depends on the time and the charity involved. I've no biggie with needles, but they're still not comforting.
Quartz, you're gonna come off as a serial killer if you keep re-using that line. :P

yeah same here, i wish i could give blood i really do, but the idea of inserting a cold hard steel needle into my vains frightens the hell outta me.
my *one day* ill actually get the nerve to give some
quartz_donkey - May 28, 2004 03:59 AM (GMT)
I don't think it's the only way to give but it doesn't cost me money which is good 'cause regularly I don't have all that much. But this don't cost a thing. This isn't about pimping blood donation, but awarness of it. It's all good and if you think I'm a serial killer Fusion perhaps you better give that blood away quick smart. :D
Bleeding is easy.

Anyone up for starting up the 'Save the Gregg from doorknockers' charity?
I swear I will not be held accountable for my actions the next time someone brings a tin to my front door.
Get the hell of my property you trespasses!

Door knockers and such are okay in my books, I make sure to donate if it's a good cause... but those dogma preaching persistent little Jehova turds! Kill them, kill them all! I will not be exposed to their shit anymore!
I remember at one point they visited me like 2 times in a fortnight!
[m]averick - June 5, 2004 05:43 AM (GMT)
Very soon I will be giving blood through an organisation run by my school.
Lets look at the pros and cons of giving blood:
Pro's:
- miss a half day of school
- free cookies and milk
- sit in a comfy recliner
- you get a free mini radio for your first time.
Cons:
- You lose a litre of blood.
I say give and then give some more you greedy bastards. All the incentives makes me want to give blood plus the fact that I'll be helping people in need makes it all the sweeter.
The more people talk aboiut how they don't wanna give blood makes me want to give more blood....weird eh?
quartz_donkey - June 6, 2004 03:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah give that blood away. Give it all away. Film Guru you given yet? Anyone else giving again this week with plasma they let you donate every two weeks.
Junker - June 6, 2004 07:03 AM (GMT)
You guys may have inspired me. I mean, what has my blood been doing for me, really, when all I've been doing is sitting here and posting? I'll find the bleeding place and deliver my red gold soon I think.
Pauly - June 6, 2004 10:02 AM (GMT)
Never given blood and doubt I will anytime soon.
Little Dude - June 7, 2004 07:17 AM (GMT)
I am all for blood donations...however...
Due to an eating disorder I seem to have at the moment... I discovered (after having blood taken for a test) that it makes me so incredibly lightheaded (in a bad way) and I cant stand up for about an hour. Also I woke up the next morning all sick and VERY weak. The weakness continued for a week or so.
So while I do plan to give blood... not until I fix my bad (or lack thereof) diet.
The Coconut King - June 7, 2004 12:12 PM (GMT)
Man, I love it when Jehovah's Witnesses come to my place. We've got a stack of pamphlets and books we've collected from them over the years, they're great for a laugh :P
Will you stop saying that? ;)

Another day another donation. Platlets this week.
Bleeding is easy.
idlbmp - June 16, 2004 09:37 AM (GMT)
I'm not allowed to give blood last I heard. I had/still have (I don't know if it is gone because I still don't suffer from the problems the disease created) a disease that disallows me from donating.
quartz_donkey - June 24, 2004 06:52 AM (GMT)

and

See it's not hard and that yellow stuff is plasma. Looks like pee. Taken today.
Kid A - June 27, 2004 02:53 AM (GMT)
I will give blood. However I can't right now because I am 14.
