Description: Can they be played back?

Hey guys. I was wondering if there's a way to play back dat movie files? I've got some cool movies off gamespot which were streamed and left in my IE cache. I copied them to a folder and now want to play them again. So is there way?
Cheers.

You should be able to just open them in Windows Media player and view them. If that doesn't work try finding a streaming video recorder, these programs basically record streaming content and allow you to save the movies onto your hard drive.

Yer, you should be able to jsut oepn it. Maybe try changing the file extension to .mpg .avi .wmv.

I've tried both and nothing. :(

Not even my DVD software plays it.

OK, this will tell you if you have a actually got a video file on your hands. Download GSpot which can be found HERE. Once installed right click the file and go to "AVIcodec: detailed information". Under "V. codec name" it will show you what codec it has been encoded in. Search Google for it, install, then try and play. If it still ain't work search Google for "Virtual Dub". If that can't play it then it's not a video file and you've been tricked with a fake.

There's also a handy program called Bink Video Player, I think. Try that one...

i just used to open them up using Windows Media Player, under the dropdown list where it says "File Types", select "All files", then click on the *.dat file

edit: oops, didn't know this topic was a month old, civic's probably figured it out by now
