Title: What game are you currently playing?
Hello - May 23, 2004 09:42 PM (GMT)
I like this type of thread, because you can talk about an older game that you just recently purchased, rather than starting an individual thread.
Yesterday, I picked-up Mario Kart: Double Dash!! 1st impressions were in 50cc, and I was like, "What the shit is this shit?". But than I moved onto 100cc and things got that little bit more interesting/difficult/faster. A lot more fun than I expected, as many people bagged it out, but it still could have a few more less-shit courses. I had a quick bash on the multi-player, too, and was reasonably impressed. Although, my mates don't really play games anymore, so it'll be just me and my sister...should be cool...
Thoughts? What game have you just picked-up?
~DC - May 23, 2004 11:06 PM (GMT)
The last game I picked up was Resident Evil 0. Judging from the amount of game time I have put in it's definitely another great installment to the RE franchise and a must have for all survival horror fans or just fans of the series in general.

Smuggler's Run: Warzones. New, $19.95 from EB in January.
Pretty good fun at a budget price. Very repetitive though. I'd like to have a go at it in multiplayer though, as the single player is a heap of fun - and addictive.

I've never played the GC incarnation of Smuggler's Run, but if it's anything like the PS2 versions it'd be a blast to play. The original was the first PS2 game me & my brother owned. The amazing visuals and non-existant redraw point alone were well worth the asking price. :D
Back on track, I've only had my Cube for a week or two now and as such don't own any games. :( Luckily one of my housemates also has a Cube and a copy of Metroid Prime, so I just borrow that. ;) The first game I get will undoubtedly be Animal Crossing. :)
Manny M - May 24, 2004 02:32 AM (GMT)
I've been hit by Xbox fever recently, and i've got 6 games on the big box in just 1 1/2 months of owning it....
But as far as cube games go, the most recent cube game I bought was V joe, and that was only about 2 months back. Great game, but I haven't gone back to finish it since I bought my Xbox.
Spag - May 24, 2004 03:46 AM (GMT)
For the Xbox I brought (cheaply) Blinx which was a repetive and mediocre platformer. Beyond Good and Evil is up next courtesy of Buffoon.
For the Cube I brought VJ which wasn't my thing so I returned it. I-Ninja should be next
jawbreaker982 - May 24, 2004 04:22 AM (GMT)
Lost Kingdoms 2.
I like it.
Thanks for listening.
Oh, and hello, I loved MKDD!, despite the criticism it recieved from most. Once I got into trying to unlock the course ghosts, I was in the zone. So many hours lost...
JJJames7 - May 24, 2004 07:48 AM (GMT)
Last games I got were on the same day at EB, Metroid Prime and Soul Calibur II. They were about three months back, but I JUST CAN'T GET INTO METROID PRIME! I don't know why, but I've played it TWICE, and it's just not really for me. I like having the "realistic" guns.
As for SCII, It's a great game and an awesome multiplayer bash. I'm also looking to get MK:DD!! or Transformers on PS2. Suggestions?

I think you need to be a bit of a Metroid fan to get into it properly. Metroid has always been about exploration. ;)
Ghazrat - May 24, 2004 10:57 AM (GMT)
Last GCN ones I got were Sonic Heroes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ahh, my inner child is very happy with me at the moment. ^_^
DJ-Civic - May 24, 2004 01:03 PM (GMT)
Visual aids are so helpfull.... :)
MGS: The Twin Snakes was my last Cube purchase. Loved it through and through.
Jak 2: Renegade on my PS2. Picked it up for the bargain price of $45 at DVDcrave brand new.
If only SMS would've been this good....
NismoR34 - May 24, 2004 02:41 PM (GMT)
Hm, well Harvest Moon arrived today, but that doesn't count.
My last Gamecube game purchase was Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. An awesome game, even if it is a remake. (I had never played a game in the series, before this one.)
I really liked the cutscenes, even if they were long at times.
Great game, bit hard too. (On extreme. ;))
Last game purchased on Ps2 was also Jak 2. (Seems like I'm copying Civ there..)
Another great game, and one of the best platformers I have ever played.
Before that, it was Jak 1 and Ratchet and Clank. (both at the same time.)
Sytadel - May 24, 2004 03:40 PM (GMT)
Super Mario Allstars. I hadn't played that game in about a decade, yet I could still remember where the warp flute was in the first dungeon, that special flying raccoon trick on level 1-3 that gets you into a warp zone, how to always get star cards, how to get infinite lives on level 1-2 w/Raccoon mario, not to mention the locations of about 30 coin blocks. I think I played it too much as a kid...

Have you beaten the very first boss? If not, wait til then before you pack it in, as the game becomes a hell of a lot more fun after that.
I know people hate these type of questions, but, which game should I get next: Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing?
The game that I purchased before Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (don't forget that extra !, Jawbreaker982 :cheese: ) was Prince of Persia. When I 1st played it I was like, "Greatest game EVA!!@@!!!! MOTHER!", but then I experienced the first combat and blah. It took me half an hour to defeat 20 enemies, doing the exact same actions, it was just b button, a button, dodge, y button. Boring...
Manny M - May 25, 2004 12:04 AM (GMT)
Funnily enough, Prince of Persia has been on my 'to buy list' since it came out on the PS2 last year...
There are still a crapload of games I want to buy (gotta love buying a new console in the middle of its lifetime), and a crapload more i've bought but yet to play...all I can say is that Ninja Gaiden is taking up ALL my time at the moment.
The ghost who walks - May 25, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
my last gamcube purchase was soul calibur 2 about a month ago, it's awesome fun, espespecially in multiplayer, although playing against button mashers can be EXTREMELY annoying :P

Resident Evil on GCN, $42 from Target :) I thought that was a top find ^_^

What's with al the non-Nintendo posts? I coulda sworn this was the Nintendo section...:P
Moggo - May 25, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
I recently picked up Splinter Cell for $69.
I'm loving it so far, and although it's a watered down version of the Xbox instalment, it's still a quality title, and thankfully, quite lengthy.
I'm stuck at the moment though. :(

Ouch. I had it in my hands for $40 at Target. I even bought the PS2 version for $25 but took it back. ;)

Anyone know how much RE0 is atm?

RE0 is $60 at dvdcrave.
Dont know in the stores I haven't seen it around anywhere since it got discontinued.

I think Prince of Persia is a must-have rental, but not a must-have purchase. The platforming bits are awesome, but the combat is truly shit-house. Rent!
Did anybody like RE0 more than RE Remake? Whilst I liked RE0 cause it was a bit different to the mansion-theme, something just didn't feel right.
1 vote for Animal Crossing, and 1 for Harvest Moon...who's gonna be the deciding vote? :shiggy: Shiggy may win out at this stage...
Iroquois - May 26, 2004 01:58 AM (GMT)
The last GCN game I picked up was a game by the name of Viewtiful Joe. Up until Friday I had gone for several weeks without a GCN power cord so I haven't bought many games. I've only bought one game since VJ - that was Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on GBA.
Machiavelli - May 26, 2004 05:14 AM (GMT)
My last Gamecube purchase was also Viewtiful Joe.
Hello - May 28, 2004 08:51 AM (GMT)
Damn, Mario Kart's a hard bitch! I cannot pass 150cc Mushroom Cup, it's just friggin impossible. Every shitten time I'm about to win on the bloody desert level some fool-schlong throws a bomb. It pisses me off when a game's not based solely on skill, but a shit load of pure dumb-luck. Still, it's a reasonable game, as it's keeping me playing...
I've decided to purchase Animal Crossing next, any news on a Players Choice release?

I have sneaky tactic of that one; get someone else to play with you.
Someone Else = Shell Fodder! :evilwink:

i just got fire emblem for gba today for $39 :D (not really gcn related...but anyway :P )
Buffoon - May 28, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
Um, I think the last Gamecube game I got was FF:CC. And I haven't actually played it much. Apparently it's not brilliant, but I'm just too much of a sucker for FF stuff.
Actually, the last GCN game I got might have been Rogue Leader, for $15 new. And I'm still not sure if it was worth it.
Spag - May 28, 2004 01:58 PM (GMT)
Beyond Good and Evil is now my latest game, and 5 hours into the game I'm really enjoying what is a fine adventure game.
StompBrother - May 28, 2004 03:51 PM (GMT)
Another hour to go then Spag. ;)
BG&E is an excellent game, but is a bit short. I'm not bad mouthing it, it;s a great game. Just that it all ends far too quickly.
The set pieces where absolutely brilliantand had some fun stealth and Zelda bits. You also can't beat the final battle. If only a lot more developers are as creative as the Rayman Team.

I picked up F - Zero GX yesterday for $50, and I am thoroughly enjoying it, and the difficulty is just nice.
StompBrother - May 29, 2004 08:57 PM (GMT)
Spag:
Hmm. Slaughterhouse eh? I won't say no more. ^_^'
thebigm:
Wow you reckon the difficulty of F-Zero GX is "just nice"? Wait 'till you feel the fury of the kick in the nuts hardness of the story mode chapters and Master difficulty. It really ain't such a "nice" game. ;)
ON TOPIC:
The last game I got was LotR:RotK for GC. I got a traded in copy which was prectically new for $30. Thoroughly enjoyed it and so pleased to see teh developer create a modern Final Fight clone that is graphically pleasing and makes use of the license well. Although it's a bit short, it is a fun game to play over and over due to teh RPG like levelling system and the fun 2P co-op mode. I'm gonna try to find Two Towers for cheap.
Oh and LotR:RotK game is tons better than the crappy new Ninja Turtles game. What happened Konami? Bring back the brilliance of Turtles In Time!

I got Two Towers, I think that was the one, rather stupidy, as I don't really like Lord of the Rings, and I was largely unimpressed. Sure the shitness of the Lord of the Rings clouded my judgement but the game didn't have much substance. I hate those type of games which you know will have no surprises, and are just average, nothing special.
In other news, Mario Kart is still driving me insane...
Cubeoid - May 30, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)
Last cube game I bought was XIII. Not bad but it probably wasn't worth it. Last game I hired though was Everything or Nothing and I found that to be really fun. The co-op is really cool.
