Title: Know of any good sites for fixing PC problems?
Description: Or, you can help me specifically...

Alright, I've got two predicaments:

A) I don't know of any paticularly good sites (or programs) where you can go to quickly search for/solve computer issues. Some kind of site to diagnose computer problems, and provide some direction for solving. I figure there must be one out there, and I'm simply not aware of it.

B) Specifically I want to find such a site because my computer has developed an odd issue where it freezes momentarily every 30 seconds - 2 minutes. Basically, at what seem to be random times, the computer simply stops doing anything for a brief moment. After the moment has passed, it continues as though nothing has happened. This means that units in games pause then jump ahead, a moving mouse pointer will jump, music cuts out and makes a buzzing noise very briefly. The music was the first thing I noticed, and needless to say, it's pretty irritating. I formatted very recently and have no idea what could be causing this.

Any help'd be appreciated.

I'm no whiz at computers, not by a long shot, but maybe it's something physical that a format won't fix. Faulty RAM chip maybe? Maybe a slight drop in power is causing it, like something arising from a bad power point or PSU? Have you tried kicking, swearing and/or spitting at it?

Hehe, yeah that'll help.

I'm also more inclined to say it's a hardware fault.

Open your system and see if you can see any loose fans or connections.

Whats your OS and how much RAM do you have??

I can't know for sure, but it sounds like a hardware problem. As Manny M said, open your case and make sure everything is connected properly. Additionally, you should check the temperatures of your case & cpu, as it could also be an overheating problem.

http://www.annoyances.org is a great site for operating system help, but not really suited for this problem.

Memory seems the likely problem, though I don't understand why your computer's RAM is flooding so infrequently and without apparent reason. Does the problem occur on it's own when you're running almost nothing or only when several programs are being used?

Preliminary guesses for solving the problem would be to either investigate the condition of your RAM chips, check that they're plugged in properly and maybe even a replacement or upgrade of. I wouldn't go with the latter though unless you're sure it will solve the issue and you've got some cash to burn. I'm not much of a hardware techy, but I'm sure it's a hardware issue (seeing as a format did nothing).

Thanks for the help guys. I think it's unlikely that it's the amount of memory that I have - paticularly since I have 512Mb DDR and a fairly bare computer. For similar reasons it's unlikely that it's the temperature, paticularly since it's been cold lately. However recently I pulled a second network card out, so I wouldn't be surprised if I dealt some damage to my RAM (or something else) in the process.

I'll see if it is the amount of RAM first by restarting and just running Winamp, to see if it jumps. If that fails I'll open it and see if anything looks hopelessly out of place or damaged.

I'm pretty sure that it was a software problem with me.

But once again, I can't remember what the problem was! >_<
