Title: Monitor is losing it's memory!
Description: Keeps forgetting my settings

TrinityJayOne - May 23, 2004 02:58 AM (GMT)
For as long as I've had this puta I've been running my monitor at 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 75Hz (that's the best refresh I can get, my video card is shit). Just the other day I changed to 1152x864 and everything was fine, but the image didn't quite reach the edges of the monitor (with horizontal stretch on full) so I changed the refresh rate to 70, problem solved (yes, I'm one of those pesky Alignment Nazi's you see fiddling with the monitor settings at Uni libraries and such :P).

Anyhoo, everything was fine for the whole day (I only really turn my puta off at night), but the next morning I found that my monitor had reset itself back to 1024x768 and a refresh rate of 85Hz. I found the refresh rate odd because I have the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" checkbox ticked, and ordinarily 85Hz isn't there. Said checkbox was now unticked and greyed out. I changed the refresh back to 75Hz (what I used to have it set to at 1024x768) and re-ticked the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" checkbox, which was now ungreyed as per usual. I put the resolution back up to 1152x864 and the refresh back to 70Hz, again with no problems at all. As turning Puta off seemed to trigger the bizarre events, I turned her off and then back on a minute later and the settings were as I had left them. Once again, everything was fine for the rest of the day.

Well I just turned Puta on this morning and guess what? 1024x768 @ 85Hz!!!!! And again the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" checkbox is unticked and greyed out. Apart from the obvious problem of Puta forgetting the settings, I don't understand why the monitor is displaying things at a refresh rate Windows says it can't handle. user posted image Normally if I set the monitor to something it doesn't like the screen goes blank and the monitor's OSD shows up with an error message like "out of scan range".

Here's some info for reference-

This may seem like an obvious thing, but have you looked for and downloaded newer drivers for your monitor?

Also, try to uninstall it in windows and reboot. When windows comes back it should reinstall the best driver..which might fix your problems.

If the monitor doesn't come back, boot up in safe mode. To do this, keep tapping F8 when your PC starts up and it'll give you the option.

Off the offical Dell site it says your monitor can do 1024x768@85Hz, so if your worrying that your destroying your monitor, don't. Also refresh rates don't depend on the graphics card, I think yout TNT2 could do 100Hz if it wanted too :P

I'm having the same (kind of) problem with my Acer 77C - Radiation king. Everytime the monitor is turned off, it seems to forget tiny bits of information about my display. Things like width, height, position of the picture, etc.

I've found out that its an actual problem with the hardware. Seems something has been knocked out of its socket on one of its bumpy trips to a LAN (probably a wire, not sure). So unless i have a go at soldering, i'm stuck with a faulty monitor.

Been moving it about lately?

Thanks guys! I went to the Dell website and got the .inf file they say works with all their monitors. I installed it and turned Puta off for 30 mins and everything seems fine now. I'll see what happens tomorrow and if the problem persists I'll see my doct-...errr, I mean, I'll come back to this thread. :)

EDIT: Nope, never move it ever, apart from the occasional tilt or swivel should I want to lie in bed and watch a movie or something. :)

Well, everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks guys!

ARSE SHIT FUCKER SON OF BITCH!!!

As you may have guessed, I turned my monitor on this morning and it's screwing up again. Exact same problem as before. My computer's been through the same routine for the last three days (on durng day, off at night) and it's been fine so I don't know what's going on. :(

do you know if you are runing more then one hardware profile?

TrinityJayOne - May 28, 2004 02:41 AM (GMT)
I only have the one hardware profle, I have no need for more. Incidently, when I turned Puta on just now the resolution stayed at 1152x864. Someone help!! :(
