Title: the N64 games hunt ...a 'not so new' discussion.
craptest - April 26, 2004 03:01 AM (GMT)
Here's a thread to discuss the great N64 games you've hunted down post GCN launch. Also a good place to talk about the games you can't seem to find.
Did you score a bargain? Tell us...
Find a hard to get game? Let us know....
Changed your views on a game after all these years? Which one?
Buying N64 games now can get you some weird looks .."can't that poor boy afford new games?"
Despite the Nintendo 64 coming in second most here will remeber it as the best console last generation. For all its faults (and there were sooo  many) it still gave us some of the greatest games ever made... (they were just usually 8 months late).
Retro Reviews are welcome. Pick your favourite game and look at it through the loving haze of nostalgia.
Posting a reasonable sized picture of your collection is also highly desired.
*Just keep it to a single jpg under 150kb.
*Note: If you're selling your N64 games you should probably do that in the Market Forum (the sell/ trade section). Maybe mention your selling so we know to look. But no trading/ selling in this thread.
Thanks

Crappy Games
It's pretty bad form posting straight after yourself. I think the technical term is SPAM. But Im trying to get the thread rolling (so forgive me just this once).
Above is my humble
N64 Games Collection. I'm attempting to add more games all the time. You can probably notice the little plastic covers. A bit much I know but it does give the collection that
serious collector's vibe :P

Nice collection there man - those games bring back a lot of memories for me. I'm not a biased gamer, but I have to agree that the N64 did have some awesome games that really had an impact on video gaming. Goldeneye, Mario 64, Wave Race, Zelda and of course Perfect Dark.
Man, did I ever play some Perfect Dark. Every time I went around to my mates place, his brother would fire it up and we'd have some crazy multiplayer bouts - full of all kinds of bots of course. Matter of fact, the only problem with the game is that it was often too advanced for the hardware and caused things to chug some.
Damn you craptest, now I want to go and play some Perfect Dark (and I have a tonne of work to do)!
Diddy Kong Racing was definitely the most played game on my N64. I became completely obsessed with unlocking absolutely everything in the game (Note: Mission Accomplished!). I was quite young and didn't have much money so it was DKR for months and months on end. Add to that the fact you have a lot more time to play games when you're in Primary School and it was easy to see why the hours piled up so much.
Post GCN launch, the best bargain I got was Majora's Mask. I'm ashamed to say I never picked it up when it first came out, but managed to find a deal on Ebay for $50 brand new, everything included and not a scratch on it. Since I made that purchase, the prices have gone up for that game in that kind of condition so SCORE!
I'll post here more when I think up some more N64 memories.
pdmaster2023 - April 26, 2004 10:39 AM (GMT)
At the beginning of last year I managed to get a N64 (I sold my old one) and Goldeneye for $30 in mint condition! Right now i'm looking for Mario Tennis, and an expansion pak, I can find one anywhere these days.

Argh!! 2 weeks ago I could have sold you Mario tennis. Oh well :) .
Both items you're after are available on eBay. Remember you can also buy the expansion pack from the USA if local prices are too steep.
You couldn't buy this type of advertising :P

Are you telling me you actually Unlocked the Clock as a racer. Thats was the only damn thing I never completed in that game.
I commend you for pulling that off Gregg.
On a different note I had a fair few Titles myself.
Mario Kart
Mario Tennis
Mario Golf
Goldeneye
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Mario 64
Wave Race
DK 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Perfect Dark
Yoshis Story
Banjo & Kazooie
Zelda Ocarina of Time & Majoras Mask.
Ah I was such a biased fanboy back in those days.
BrotherEstapol - April 26, 2004 03:29 PM (GMT)
I picked up a 2nd hand copy of
Tetrisphere for $23.95 from EB today. :D (well, technically yesterday...)
It still has the box and manual, but they aren't in the best of condition....the cart on the hand is in
Mint Condition.Haven't had a go of it yet, but if it stands the test of time, it should be a ripper! :P
I probably could have got it a little cheaper, but I'm happy with that price. :)
Some in game pics:

And the cover:

I also managed to unlock the clock in DKR. I was a very happy child back then when I achieved it too.
Anyway,
here is what I currently have for my N64. I unfortunately had to sell quite a few of my old games to purchase my GCN.
I've been meaning to start discussing the old days of the N64 recently, as the console has probably given me the most enjoyment so far, out of all the ones I've owned.
I think I'll start posting impressions of select titles in my next few posts. Starting with Diddy Kong Racing. :)

That's right my man. TT (short for Time Trial) was the final thing I unlocked. If I remember correctly, you had to beat his ghost on every single track (normal, space and reverse) in order to get the bastard. He was one tough monkey!
Let's just say that once you have him, completing the game isn't such a challenge anymore - he just romps the competition.
Nismo: If you start a thread on Diddy Kong, I'm writing a big reply to it. B)
Tr1gger Vandal - April 27, 2004 02:56 AM (GMT)
The N64 is still my faourite console, but since I don't use EBay, picking up decent N64 games has been difficult for me, post GCN.
EB are still charging a ridiculous price for most second hand N64 games - I saw a copy of Banjo-Tooie for $80 in there the other day :o
My brother and my combined collection is as follows:
Mario Kart 64
Mario 64
Diddy Kong Racing (with unlocked TT as well ;) )
Perfect Dark
Goldeneye
Shadow Man
Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask
Banjo Kazooie
Star Wars
Jet Force Gemini
Donkey Kong 64
Beetle Adventure Racing
And another two or three I can't remember off the top of my head right now.
I really want:
Banjo-Tooie
Space Station Silicon Valley
Mario Party 1 or 2
Pokemon Stadium (don't ask why)
Yoshi's Story
Paper Mario
And that fighting game I loved but can't remember the name of for some reason. But it was cool! :D

What!?
The most expensive N64 game at I've seen at EB has been $40 at most!
And they currently have 20% off all Pre-owned games. :D
And is Super Smash Brothers(possibly one of the best games on the N64) the fighting game you were talking about?
CLL - April 27, 2004 03:14 AM (GMT)
Ahh, the N64. I had many sleepless nights playing the 4-player games:
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Mario Kart 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Super Smash Bros
Even now, my bro and I go back and play a few PD skirmishes. You should see our stat screens, it's amazing how much time we've accumulated playing that game.
Goldeneye was the game I spent the most time playing on SP. I remember first playing it at my cousin's house, and right then and there it convinced me to get an N64.

Yep, true story. Well, it was actually, $79.95 :P
It was about a month ago I think. I asked them why the hell it was so expensive and their answer was "It's a rare game" (literally :P ). Puns aside though, it is actually pretty hard to get a hold of, though I don't think it should be that much.

Yeah, Banjo Tooie is a tough game to get a hold of. It was released fairly late in the 64's life (like Majora's) and they seemed to pull them off the shelves before most people could get their hands on 'em.
Most great games that came late in the N64's life start around $80 no matter where you go these days... or so my eyes have led me to believe.
Tr1ggs, did you have to battle day and night to get TT?

We got Diddy Kong Racing when it first hit the shelves, so it was a while ago now. From memory, it was a combined effort from both my brother and I, and took us a little while. We managed to unlock everything in the end, after playing on and off for about 4 - 6 weeks.
Then I erased all the data so I could do it all over again :P
Still haven't gotten around to completing it the second time though.
OldSkOoL - April 27, 2004 04:05 AM (GMT)
That Clock was the one damn thing I could never unlock. The only races I never managed to defeat him in where Flying courses. Such as Windmill Plains.
This thread inspired me to whip out some old N64 Classics and last night I had a run through with Forsaken and Buck Bumble. God Forsaken was a fairly difficult game.

I'm not sure if it came out before or after Banjo Tooie, but I picke dup Conkers Bad Fur Day for $37 the other day. :)
The box wasn't in the best of condition, but the Maunal and Cart are perfect. :P
It was old stock from Target btw. ;)

$30 is unbelievable... the jealousy is rising at a rapid rate. I'd be happy with the cartridge alone, boxed with everything would be a dream come true.

Well for the record I paid $24.99
And the box is perfect (see picture) :P
Anyone wanting Paper Mario desperately - there's a shop near me selling the aussie version boxed and complete for $135. Not cheap but it's in great condition. Besides $129.95 was the RRP when it was released, and it's arguably more valuable now.
I won a copy of Resident Evil 2 a day or so ago on UK ebay. Waiting for it to arrive. Boxed and complete - yay! :D

I would be really tempted to ask you to grab that copy for me craptest had a Gamecube version not been in development.

Lylat Wars
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
Tetrisphere
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Yoshi's StoryA list of all my games. As you can see, I am missing a few of the best N64 games, but I'm not too bothered. :)

Here's a hint: try different characters for different courses. I was stumped until I started to experiment - it seems some characters do better on some courses than others.
I forgot about 1080 (despite the fact I own it). That was the snowboarding game for many years as far as I'm concerned.
Paper Mario is probably the hardest game to get your paws on at the moment. If you want it you pretty much have to fork out massive money for it. Another game released right at the end with very little shelf life.
This thread has restored so many N64 memories I have - what a great console.
Conker's will always have a special place in my big heart as the last Rare game for Ninty. Funny, funny game. :)

You haven't lived until you've done four-player Slayer matches! Remote-controlled rockets flying around everywhere! There's no better feeling than having a mate of yours scream in terror as he/she watches your portion of the screen focus on his idle carcass on the game map, slowly closing in for an explosive kill.
The N64 was one of my all-time favourite consoles, featuring a menagerie of games, which have crawled into my all time favourites list. Heck, people used to pay me to conquer their 007: Goldeneye cartridges for them!
Pity the controllers wear so easily, especially after the nightmare that was the original Mario Party (which I bought back in the day), oh good god. I ended up selling it all to afford my very necesary PC and I've not much interest in personally re-purchasing one at this time (my younger brother did recently, as well as Perfect Dark). I want the new-age The Legend of Zelda bonus disk for GameCube though, I haven't played Majora's Mask yet... <.<

Anyway, I only 3 games left; Super Mario 64, which I got from Nismo. :D
Conker's Bad Fur Day, which I think is tops, and Legend of Zelda: OOT.
I'm always on the lookout for any cheap copies I see at stores though, so I can re-stock my collection. ;)

And Gregg, I'm not starting seperate threads, each post I do about games I choose, will be in here. My DKR post is coming soon, gotta write it first.
Next game after DKR should be Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. :)

Hehehe, all these people fawning over Paper Mario, I managed to grab an ex-rental copy when BlockBuster were getting rid of all their games. :D Granted, the box isn't in the best condition and it has those damn video store stickers on it, but it's mine! Putting my name down was the best thing I'd ever done. Freaky thing is, I rented it from the same store, and out of the three copies they had I got the same one that I had rented, complete with my original game on it! :o
And my collection, as best as can be remembered:
- Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie, just can't remember which
- Conker's Bad Fur Day
- Donkey Kong 64
- Jet Force Gemini
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
- Paper Mario
- Pokémon Snap
- Pokémon Stadium
- Pokémon Stadium 2
- Super Smash Bros
Picked up JFG and Banjo-whichever from Blockbuster at the same time as Paper Mario. JFG still had it's box, luckily enough, but Banjo is forever trapped in a rental vido case. :(

Hehe, yeah, that's for sure. We used to come up with all sorts of unfair games such as using the guns that could shoot through walls (the name escapes me at the moment) in a four player death match. You really couldn’t stop in one spot too long to focus on someone as another member would take you out. It often resulted in one member running for his life while the other three took shots at him. Hehehe, good times.

You just reminded me of another game I own, yet had completely forgotten about - Jet Force Gemini. One of the most overlooked Rare games in my opinion.
