Title: Half Life 2
thebigm - April 26, 2004 02:40 AM (GMT)
This game may or not be coming out soon, but it still one of my most anticipated games, how about you people?
~DC - April 26, 2004 03:35 AM (GMT)
PC gaming has all but terminated for myself, primarily due to not boasting a PC which is capable of handling new games that have such hefty requirements. To be honest the inital revealing of Half-Life made everyone jump up and down in amazement yet after the recent troubles, source code leaked/hacked, and numerous delays, my excitement and antcipation for the game has all but dried up.
The developers have constantly stated that the game will be ready by this year but if the current trend of delays persist I can't see it having a chance of being on shores before 2005. It has been signified with Duke Nukem Forever that showing off advanced graphics model which was once was deemed the pinnacle of PC gaming can very easily be surpassed and look reasonably dated in comaprision to the newer models if constant delays hold up the development process. I seem to think this might be the case if the delays continue to be rolled out, especially considering the recent unveiling of the new Unreal engine.
Ghost Boy - April 26, 2004 04:40 AM (GMT)
Yeah I gotta say that PC gaming has slowed down for me to all but Madden and a few small online games.
I just get sick of having to fork out so much cash to upgrade what is already a powerful computer for one new game. Console gaming is just so much easier in that respect - you buy the console, then spend your money on games and have little running issues with them. Graphics cards are all good and well, but you spend thousands on a top of the line model and within a month it has been surpassed.
With that said, I am looking forward to Half Life 2. The first game was revolutionary and really brought a lot of people back to PC gaming.
I will be getting this game when it comes out.

Well, like some of you guys, my comp just isn't up to scratch, so PC gaming isn't at its high point for me. Although I still manage to play a few games.
Have to say that I'm sort of glad HL2 is delayed as it gives me time to get a new comp, yet at the same time, it'd be better if they could've released earlier just so that they could iron out all the bugs before I played it. Then again, this added time should give them plenty of time to fix a lot of stuff. As it stands, I'm more interested in Stalker, but HL2 is still up there for my Most Wanted.
Kid Wakelin - April 26, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
Well, it will be released earliest September (that's my release date for it :P) and may even get pushed back to next year.
I am looking forward to it, but not as much as other PC games. Plus I am scared about how much I will need to spend to get it running properly
BrotherEstapol - April 26, 2004 04:16 PM (GMT)
I'll be investing in a next gen card for this one, so the longer it's delayed, the better. ;)
Lordage - April 27, 2004 06:45 AM (GMT)
The PC is probably my main gaming platform, so 'Half-Life 2' is up there with my most anticipated games... If it ever arrives. :P
Machiavelli - April 27, 2004 08:04 AM (GMT)
I'm disapointed Half-Life 2 isn't going to have a demo - probably because of the way that this game is structured, a demo really isn't possible without altering major components of the game. It just wouldn't be worth the trouble to make a demo of this game, since there's no need to publicize it, due to the fan base and entertainment news companies.
Sybatical - April 27, 2004 08:07 AM (GMT)
I doubt my system will run it, I'll have to turn to the Xbox version.

That could be quite a wait. Last I heard all Valve's development team is currently concentrating on the PC version so that it can be released. Which means the Xbox version could be quite some time away.
BrotherEstapol - April 28, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
I thought the Xbox version was cancelled?
I remember them announcing that a few months ago.

In that case it really makes one wonder whether the game will even be released for PC before the end of this year. It would seem foolish to release such a game for consoles, even on release, by around late 2005/early 2006 as the game will be outdated by then.
drewgcn - April 29, 2004 06:27 AM (GMT)
If I buy a new card, I'll definitely get this game. The in-game trailer is enough to convince anybody!
Otherwise my Geforce 2 Mx400, overclocked as as I try, will have no hope...

Same here, I hope it gets delayed to atleast December so I can play it on my shiny new PC :P This game is going to be one hell of a ride :o But the thing I'm most excited about is that Sven Co-op 2 was announced!!! That was ages ago so I don't know if it's still running but Sven Co-op is my favourite Half-Life MOD.
azz230 - May 7, 2004 05:52 AM (GMT)

rampaging_geek - May 19, 2004 05:50 AM (GMT)
I just watched the 600mb+ demo trailer from E3 this year, it's looking amazing. @_@
The single player game alone was impressive enough, but the fact they had footage of the new Counter-Strike really impressed me (they showed a de_aztec remake). I can't wait! :D
The ghost who walks - May 19, 2004 08:17 AM (GMT)
i personally can't wait to play it either, and i'll be able to run it perfectly with my nice new pc (only got it a month ago) :D
Buffoon - May 19, 2004 11:51 AM (GMT)
I was lucky enough to view some Half Life 2 trailers the other day... it is now my one mission in life to save up enough money for a decent PC. Being dolescum, that will be rather difficult to achieve... I'd be surprised if I have a new PC in my possession before Christmas.
Naclj - May 20, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
ill get it the second it comes out
BUT it just doesnt excite me anymore, it seems that all the momentum it had is gone i just want to play the damn thing not talk about it being delayed again and again. but at least if it does get delayed again ill have halo 2 so all's good
BrotherEstapol - August 30, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
Some good(or not now it seems :( ) and slightly old news people!
QUOTE (PC IGN)
August 27, 2004 - In a bit of late-breaking news Friday night, Gabe Newell, Managing Director of Valve Software, announced that Half-Life 2 is scheduled to go gold on Monday. For the uninitiated, "going gold" means the game (the 100% final version) has been copied to a disc and is being sent out to manufacturers for duplication. Going from duplication to retail shelves can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months, depending on the size of the distrobution and other factors.
"Yay!!!" I said on Friday, but today when I went to copy the article to post here, it had been updated...
QUOTE (PC IGN)
UPDATE: Further investigation has revealed that Gabe Newell's forum account was reportedly hacked, and the announcement appears to have been faked, according to Valve employee Chris Bokitch. More to come as details emerge.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/542/542988p1.htmlWhat is it with these damned Hackers!!!???
Heres a quote from the offical HL2 forums:
QUOTE
Update: After one crazy night of theories, server mayhem and IP tracing, we've finally gotten to the bottom of this mess. In a twist of hilarity, it seems that Gabe Newell had set his account password to 'gaben'. Person x guessed this and made the "going gold on Monday" post which we've heard so much about. The user (who we believe is the same person x) then made this post just minutes ago using Gabe's account:
| QUOTE | | Maybe he shouldn't have used 'gaben' for his password. Come on Gabe, you could of thought of something better than that |
After a quick double-check, it seems that this was exactly what happened. Reminds me of the good old days. For an official response concerning the hoax, see Chris Bokitch's post on Steampowered.
Original Post After a close scrutiny of Gabe Newell’s account history on the forums, we've come to the conclusion that the gold post is a fake. While we can't be 100% certain at this stage, all indicators point towards someone hacking the forum account. That said, all Gabe's previous posts on these forums are quite legitimate.
We apologize for the confusion and will be investigating further. Theoretically, an IPB forum account should be very difficult to hack. Well, that was the theory at least. We'll keep you updated.

*sigh* :(
Looks like it's back to playing Hungry-Hungry-Hippos....
Film Guru - August 30, 2004 04:58 AM (GMT)
Usually this kind of stuff ticks me off, but that's pretty funny. I mean, if I guessed the password of the account and it was so obvious, I'd make a funny prank post too. :P
Face it, we all would. :P
Lordage - August 30, 2004 07:35 AM (GMT)
That's classic. I must agree with FilmGuru on this one, I would have done the same thing, either that or announced that it was cancelled. :P
borgster101 - August 30, 2004 10:59 AM (GMT)
 With such an obvious password that was bound to happen! You'd think the password would be a bit more secure.

This isn't yet 100% confirmed, but it gives a look at the possible Collector's Edition.

WTF!? What's with the "uberness" of the gold pack? Substitution for having to download the game?
I think collectors edition is where it's at.
CLL - September 30, 2004 02:40 AM (GMT)
It's got to be marketing thing. The GOLD pack has so much more stuff, so the incentive is to force people to use their service and d/l off Steam. Pretty annoying. I think I'll go for the retail CE pack.
Texta - October 25, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
Hey, changing track a minute. Has anyone read the Stephen King short story "The Mist". I forget which book it appeared in. Anyway, I'm sure it's what the storyline for Half life is based on. It's obviously told from a different perspective, but it's hell similar. Anyone agree?
ElPresidente - October 25, 2004 05:30 AM (GMT)
It is in Skeleton Crew I think. I'll need to go back and read it so I can see if there is a similarity though I'm struggling to see how after reading some very brief plot synopsis on the net.
rampaging_geek - October 29, 2004 08:23 AM (GMT)
I'm now a proud owner of the Silver pack.
Anyway, back to waiting.

BrotherEstapol - October 29, 2004 03:08 PM (GMT)
If you buy one of the STEAM packs, you get CS Source strait away, as it's already out.
Your also able to download Half-Life 2, but you won't be able to install it untill the games release date.(which is the 16th I think)
Same applies for the other games in the pack; you can download them when they are avaliable, but you can't play them till their retail release.
So yeah, he's waiting for CS:Source to download.
Manny M - October 29, 2004 03:16 PM (GMT)
:/
How can they stop you playing it?
borgster101 - October 30, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
The game wont work until the date??
/backslash - October 30, 2004 04:52 AM (GMT)
couldn't you just change the date on your computer to november 16th? :P
Manny M - October 30, 2004 04:53 AM (GMT)
If that's the case, then why not just put your PCs clock forward...
This is one of the most stupid things i've ever heard.
"I'll take your money. Thank you, and here's your game"
*goes to leave the store*
"Oh, sorry, one thing I forgot to mention. You can't actually play it 'till we tell you to... ok, thank you"
*goes mental and kills staff*
