Title: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Random Hero - April 5, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
Official Metal Gear Solid 4 thread. :)

Gamepro's favorite 4 things about MGS4: Graphics, Guns, Sound and Story...
| QUOTE |
The graphics: You thought Gears of War looked amazing? Think again. Metal Gear Solid 4 will blow you away with its ultra-detailed characters and intricate environments, painting some of the most gorgeous graphics seen this side of Crysis. In motion, the graphics look so realistic that your eyes begin to register the visuals as a movie rather than a game. From what we saw, MGS4 puts its 50GB Blu-ray disc to outstanding use.
The guns: The final game will feature over 70 weapons, from lethal assault rifles to silent tranquilizer guns, and you can outfit many of them with scopes, recoil grips, laser sights, flashlights, and more. Collecting enemy weapons will unlock new guns and "Drebin Points" for further customization. There are 70+ guns in all.
The sound: MGS4 has some of the crispest, clearest sound effects we've ever heard -- the booming gunshots will make your hair stand on end! The Hollywood-style soundtrack is also predictably fantastic, and Snake's raspy voice sounds more desiccated than ever. GamePro editor Sid Shuman went so far as to say that MGS4 has "the best sound I've ever heard in a game."
The story: MGS4 is the darkest Metal Gear game by far: Snake is in terrible physical shape, and the world seems to rest on the brink of self-inflicted annihilation. Though the mood is dark, it's not depressing: you'll find plenty of characters to care about in this war-torn world. |
HYPE HYPE HYPEI'm sure there's a lot of stuff that they can't reveal, For example: IGN's Jeff Haynes says the boss fights are awesome but he can't talk about them.
New hands-on preview and
interview with Kojima at IGNLooks awesome, can't wait. I plan on getting some sort of MGS4 PS3 bundle. If MGS4 scores below 9.7 on IGN I'll eat my hat for breakfast. :D

Drat...
I wonder if this will ever get a 360 release? MGS4 and GT5 are the only reasons I'd ever consider buying a PS3. TEMPTATION!
Having said that, it looks awesome. Where exactly is it set?
Ninja Catfish - April 5, 2008 03:09 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking this is what will make me buy a PS3.
I'm currently playing through the series again, beat MGS and am in the Tanker section. I recently got myself a PS2 and region free dealio so I can finally play MGS3 :)
Robert - April 6, 2008 05:11 AM (GMT)
Yep this is a true system seller, very hard to resist. I've been anticipating this one for a while now, can't wait. :D
ElPresidente - April 7, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)
Meet the reason I bought a PS3.
Drake - April 7, 2008 06:22 AM (GMT)
I have two, Gran Turismo 5 and this.
Anyway, I wonder how Snake goes from lying unconscious in the middle of Liquid's base, surrounded by lunatics (who happen to be his enemies anyway), to "waking up on the Nomad." It's probably up to Otacon to pop in with a throwaway line about how he managed to get in there all by himself and drag Snake all the way back to the ship.
NismoR34 - April 9, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
I'm currently playing through MGS 2 so in a way it is perfect timing to refresh my mind on the series before MGS 4 comes out. Of course being broke, I probably won't be getting a PS3 this year (and if I were to get a new console the Wii would come first because of Metroid anyway), but hey that's a minor detail right? ;)
Whatever my situation is, MGS 4 is looking brilliant and I can't wait to get my hands on it when you lot are all playing MGS 5. :D
(and yes I know MGS 4 is meant to be the last one, but we'll see)

US Box Art Confirmed...

Is it just me or is that the worst MGS box art of all time? It looks terrible and the ear stands out waay too much. Just looks ugly and rushed.
/backslash - April 11, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
It does look pretty terrible, I would've opted for this:

Although even that could've been done slightly better, instead of having that scenery at the bottom I would've liked Snake fully drawn (from that perspective) with a transparent logo perhaps
Ninja Catfish - April 11, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I don't like toe boxart either, all the rest had that awesome style of artwork, while this one is just some crappy pre-rendered image <_<
Random Hero - May 1, 2008 07:37 AM (GMT)
Can't believe I'll be playing this soon. Someone pinch me. Is there any confirmation on how many players online MGS4 will support?

It's good to see Boktai is getting recognition, it's one of Konami's best games in my opinion, such a charming series. :)

I've hidden those spoilers, since the game is not even out yet!
And spoilers are bad and all that.

Ninja Catfish - June 10, 2008 03:52 PM (GMT)
Oh, I have several pairs of pants for just this sort of occasion.
Ninja Catfish - June 11, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
Double post, but nobody can say it's not worth it.
MGS4 COMES OUT TOMORROW! ARRRGH!
This is gonna be the hardest day of work EVER.
ElPresidente - June 12, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
My GOD this game is amazing so far.
Granted I've only played an hour but this feels like the place Metal Gear has always been wanting to go. I'm impressed. I just hope the levels open up a little more. It feels a little linear at the moment but I'm sure that is just to get people used to the sneaking mechanics.

Inquisitor - June 14, 2008 12:20 AM (GMT)
Flip... I REALLY need a PS3.. :(
Random Hero - June 14, 2008 03:31 AM (GMT)
My brother got it yesterday. So far, to get straight to the point: This game reeks of brilliance.
That's all there really is to say. Not very far through atm.
RFA-The_Omega - June 17, 2008 07:39 AM (GMT)
The story mode is great for this game main reason I bought it so I could fill my self in with everything. Big fan since MGS1.
Random Hero - June 19, 2008 07:03 AM (GMT)
The microwave chamber, Greatest moment ever in video game history? For me that was the absolute most epic moment ive EVER experienced or seen in ANY video game. Till the day i die i will NOT forget how unbelievable that part was.
Do you consider it the Greatest moment in Video game history? If not what then.
ElPresidente - June 19, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
I would say the fist fight that takes place soon after. :)
Well actually I wouldn't... for me one of the greatest moments in gaming was first recieving the crowbar in Half-Life 2... it was such a silly bit of fan service but it was like welcoming back an old friend.

| Either when Liquid and Snake fight. Or when Snake meets his dad(Big Boss) and hugs him. |
borgster101 - June 22, 2008 04:58 AM (GMT)
Please don't post spoilers, without hiding them in some way, not everyone has played the game yet ... and it's no fun have a game like MGS4 spoiled.
I realise some things might be considered "minor" etc .. but the game has just come out, keep in mind that not everyone has played it yet, :)
