Why is it a backslash when, if you read it in english terms, it actually goes left-right, making it go 'forward'?
dave_cool31 - March 18, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
Isn't it supposed to be sort of ironic? I remember some kind of discussion long ago about it being like "forward slash backslash" or whatever...
Anyway - I wondering:
How old are you?
Are you studying anything?
Do you work at Coles full-time or part-time, how long you been working there, why do you still work there and do you like it?
and also, plz list your three favourite bands. Do it now.
(the third question counts as one, surely :P)
I don't think I've actually ever really read or posted in any of these spotlight threads... There's a first for everything, I suppose.

What are your goals career wise?
Have you seen the doco Zeitgeist(sp?), if so what do you think? If you havent, see it this week and get back to me! :D

To be brutally honest, it was actually a typo! But it paid off well and sounded nifty. This was during the event where I had little knowledge about keyboard symbols aside from the obvious. I've mentioned the story many times before like those threads "how did you come up with your username?"

1. 25
2. Nope, would love to though if Perth's rent prices weren't record high. I'd so something involving TAFE & computers if I could afford it. I don't have any relatives to fall back on (live with/support) so times are tough :(
3. Full-time. 3 years here, 3 years in my hometown. Why do I still work there? The girls :D Aside from that I'm just doing it to support myself but have often thought about doing other stuff that doesn't require qualifications. And I actually hate the job, have for a long time - as any sane person would transform. Being a forum admin is much more fun (even if there's not much to do & I don't get paid)
4. Michael Jackson, John Farnham & The Beach Boys...oh, you mean my fav bands now! Hmm...tough decision but I'd go with Ben Folds, Ben Lee & Powderfinger + random Ouendan jpop

1. Score with as many hot asian girls as I can. Aside from that, not much - like I told dave_cool I lack the freedom to study *
2. The what? Explain it because I haven't got the faintest idea what you're talking about :P

The origin of christian faith?! I'll pass thanks - I don't mind documentaries (Planet Earth & King of Kong for example) but this simply doesn't interest me

1. Why haven't we done a Podcast in a while? :P
2. Does my talking hand scare you?
3. Bought anything recently for your PS3?
4. I know you don't have a Wii, but how awesome is Zack & Wiki?! :D
5. Why did it take so long for a new Spotlight to start up? (i.e, this one)
dave_cool31 - March 19, 2008 10:31 AM (GMT)
I don't like working at Coles, either - hi-5! If I was working there full time, though, I think I would slump into a deep depression. Three days/week is ok, though.
Aaaanyway - why don't you perhaps study part-time instead of full-time? Then you could maybe still work to support yourself but also be studying something...
Also, your Coles must be in an awesome area to have large amounts of hotness there, because the ratio of hotness to notness at my work is quite low... Except for some of the workers there, one of whom (the prettiest of the Coles workers, who's also only a year older than me) unfortunately has a boyfriend and most of whom I don't see very often because they don't work in the day...
Oh, right, this is the slashy spotlight thread, not the Dave spotlight thread, sorry...
Here's another question - if you could be any animal for a day, what would you be?

1. Because I'm always capped! :P I just restarted my quota today though
2. Very much, it makes me think that your face is actually a talking hand! But I don't see any of that brown hair you were talking about - do you wear a wig?
3. Umm...yeah, Assassin's Creed s/h from some guy on Hyper. Should be receiving it tomorrow and play it all day on Good Friday! I'll be joining the festivities of assassinating people - that is a tradition right? Also I pre-ordered GTAIV Special Edition!
4. Oh its so awesome that I don't think I should even be allowed to play it! That's why I sold my Wii to make sure I'd stop myself
5. No idea, I knew resident-seven had it for a while but I didn't pay much attention until he sent me a message

1. Thought about it but trying to do that + work it'd be too stressful. I'd waste too much time galloping about and I wouldn't have any days off. My co-workers have easier lifestyles, they still live at home so work+study isn't so bad. Maybe when I get my driver's license I'll reconsider
2. Its because I work right next to Curtin University - so that's where all the hotness comes from ;) A few of them are so hot that they could easily be models!
3. I think I'd be a household dog, its like living the life of a teenager (sleep+eat+watch tv) but without having to worry about the world around you. Lots of girls will hug you too (unless you're an ugly dog)
dave_cool31 - March 19, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
that's pretty rad that your Coles is right next to a university, I hear there is a large amount of hotness at universities. Anyway, I don't really have anymore questions at the moment. I'll try to think of some more later... Oh, couldn't you maybe work four days/week? or would you then not have enough money to live?
NismoR34 - March 19, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
Why do I keep on disappearing without even having to try?
How was it living through all those hot days that Perth/WA seemed to keep on getting?
Speaking of temperature, Summer or Winter?

1. It's one of your remarkable talents. In fact I think its your only remarkable talent
2. Ugh, pretty dreadful. Especially since I refused to turn on my air con since I'm cheap. Meanwhile my hometown has been 10+ degrees cooler...guess which one I prefer? 44.2 (Boxing Day) was the worst with 31 DEGREES DURING THE NIGHT!
3. Do I have to choose just Summer or Winter? I'm more of a Spring person I guess, I like my days not too hot and not too cold. But I love rain and storms (except when I'm in it - winter winds are nasty on my lightweight bike + frozen hands). Both of those have been drying up in the last couple of years, I don't think we even had a decent storm at all last year.

8gb on-peak + 12gb off-peak (between 4-8am when I'm never awake). If you read the bitch thread monthly, you'll hear me saying it often :D

Why do I always seem to buy your stuff? :P
Why to the god/s seem intent on teasing me by allowing me to receive my copy of US Brawl today while they know that because I haven't got my Freeloader today that I can't play it and it just sits there teasing me?
dave_cool31 - March 21, 2008 10:17 AM (GMT)
Oh captain slashy of untold wisdom, I have another question for thee - why is Sam and Max the most awesomest thing since caffeine?
And, also, do you have/play Trackmania United? (if not, then you should)
Andy - March 22, 2008 05:20 AM (GMT)
1. Does GTAIV seem like a totally polished version of the predecessors, or is there something in there that makes it worthy of the step up to a true sequel?
2. As a qualifier for number 1, what is the hallmark of any "true" sequel, in your eyes?
3. With GTAIV leaning away from big name actors, do you think this is a good move?
4. Should GTA stay in the United States?

1. Because you're as bad as I am trying to think up of questions? :P
2. Because I make awesome purchases and constantly shove things in your face until you buy my duplicates (both of those were mistakes)
3. At least you get to read the instruction manual 50 times over. I did that with F-Zero (Snes) when I bought it in Sydney and had to wait a whole week until we went back home - seemed like forever! "I WANNA PLAY THE GAME!" I kept saying, as if saying that would make my wish come true somehow

1. Well for me it all seems to be about the artwork - I adore it :D

Speaking of best things since caffeine
you can now buy the 'Red vs Blue' DVDs locally from places like Ezy DVD and JBHifi! Seasons 1 & 2 are already out now! BUY IT!2. Nope I haven't but I've always wanted to. The trial & error thing would give me a headache though, however if I see it cheap enough I'll give it a whirl :D

1. From what I've witnessed it really feels like the way a sequel should, familiar but making it more 'real'. They've done quite a few changes without turning it into something like 'GTA HD'. I've read a few articles recently and I'm very impressed after boring myself with so many spinoff titles (GTA:LCS, GTA:VCS, GTA:SA)
2. Something that feels different or at least improvises the series. I'm all for the improvement in graphics but I like to see things that haven't been tried before. Anyone will agree that after Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 the series have become stale because it kept repeating the same thing over and over again no matter how much it pretended to be new. Then EA's 'Skate' came along and blew away the competition, they did it right by introducing a new control scheme that had never been done before which creates a whole new realistic experience for the player. This is what all developers should be aiming for - making the player feel like they're part of the game and not just some button masher
3. Yes because although big name actors get attention it may not really drive up the sales anyway - plus they cost a shitload ever since GTA:Vice City introduced them. As long as the voice feels 'right' for the character I've got no complaints
4. Hmm, I'm not sure but America always seems to have more flexibility than other countries. I think England would be boring and Australia would be just weird. Japan seems to be the only other option imo. Prove me wrong though ;)

1. Go back to sleep and try again later :P
2. Breakfast and lunch are always the same so that's pretty dull, I'd say I prefer my once a week Saturday snack combination of coke+250g packet of m&m's - can't be beaten :D
3. Hmm, good question. Since I live by myself now I don't have a favourite dinner (my cooking skills are pretty terrible). When I used to live with my mum it'd be something like home-made meat pie, lasagne or marinated meat patties. Now my fav home-made meal is crumb fish+sausages+chips (all that healthy frozen food stuff) thrown into a frying pan! I need to buy a george foreman grill..

1. Old ones! No contest. Explanation? Lets see; retro charm, didn't rely on CG to cover up a bland story, superior cast, more humour & more replay value. Everytime I watch the new ones I want to skip straight to the action scenes because everything else was so crap
2. Like a top 5? Well, borgster's WAY up there because he loves Dreamfall as much as I do :P , Ninja Catfish also likes Dreamfall and Sam&Max, Decman has a unique crazy personality that I laugh at practically everything he types and Stevorooni has the same ability. Last but not least it has to be you because your posts always create a buzz around the forum (and I'm not just saying that). However I consider all regular posters my favourite but without these 5 people I wouldn't enjoy posting here as much
3. Hmm...I guess it'd be 3 years ago when I went out with my gf (now ex) to the cinemas (Miss Congeniality 2 - wasn't my choice and that itself was an embarrassment). After the movie I went to use the public toilets but in doing so my mobile phone (1 week old) slipped out of my jacket pocket and into the toilet. I had to take it out of there of course because I wanted to get my SIM card back, I didn't think of using the toilet roll paper as a 'glove', so instead I just shoved my hand in there and grabbed it. Then I washed my hand 1000 times with soap and even put soap on the phone itself in a desperate attempt to erase the hideous smell. When my gf asked what happened I told her it fell into the sink whilst washing my hands. I think that was certainly one of my highlights. After I took out the sim card I dumped the phone immediately and bought another one - didn't want to put that thing near my mouth!
4. I don't want to be either but I'd rather not make love to dead things. So I'd say a paedophile. But because I said that doesn't mean I want to be one! :ph43r:

Speaking of Dreamfall, I was suprised to find out that it is now avaiable for download on Xbox 360 via the Xbox Classics range! For a mere 1200 points, so now none of you have anymore excuses (*looks at Nismo) , GET IT NOW!! :D
Though I do believe you should play the original game first, to fully appreciate the games universe, but nevertheless .. Dreamfall is easily available for many users ;)

1. What's your favorite console out of the 360, PS3 and Wii?
2. Favourite game character?
3. What are your hobbies?
/backslash - June 22, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
I should be passing this onto somebody else but what the hell :P
1. PS3 hands down.
I owned a Wii once and wasn't impressed, it was great at the start but 6 months later I still only had 1 game for it (Zelda) and the VC titles I wanted weren't being released so I sold it.
As for the 360 I was never interested in it and the constant issues of red light of death strayed me even further.
The PS3 is handy thanks to its blu-ray compatibility (I own a white JAP PS3 so it can play both japanese & american blu-rays which are much cheaper than buying them locally - and its WHITE!). Plus there's more titles in the PS3 I'm interested in, some of the franchises are owned by Sony (like Shadow of the Colossus & Ico)
2. Hmm...tough call. I'd have to say Mario because I grew up with him and enjoyed a majority of the Mario franchise. That said I do like some of the DOA characters (Lei Feng, Hitomi) but only for their looks ;)
3. Drawing (what's left of my skills from years of absence), anime, manga, internet, videogames (of course) and DVDs/Blu-rays. I spend more money on entertainment than anything else. I don't mind the odd bit of sport (golf, cricket) here and there though
borgster101 - June 23, 2008 05:30 AM (GMT)
The problem with your Wii experience slashy, is that you bought the console around the launch time, when there was less great software, now it's a different story, and it's only getting better.
But, I guess you could always buy it again :P
Speaking of consoles we don't own, I'm looking into getting a PS3, mainly for MGS4 :P but I still need to play MGS3 first, and need a PS2 for that one, since PS3 backwards compatibility has kind of fallen apart
But with Smash Bros Brawl releasing this Thursday, I'll put that on hold for now :P
