TG Daily: What are your thoughts on the future of the PC as a gaming platform? Is scalability the future – we hear AMD talking about Spider and Nvidia is selling Triple SLI that will keep us upgrading over the next several years. Or did the industry lose its focus?

Sweeney: PC gaming is in a weird position right now. Now, 60% of PCs on the market don't have a workable graphics processor at all. All the Intel integrated graphics are still incapable of running any modern games. So you really have to buy a PC knowing that you're going to play games in order to avoid being stuck with integrated graphics. This is unfortunate, and this is one of main reasons behind the decline of the PC as a gaming platform. That really has endangered high-end PC game sales. In the past, if you bought a game, it would at least work. It might not have been a great experience, but it would always work.

If you'd notice, the only ones from the industry continually saying this are people from Epic. They're just sore because they weren't able to take a step backwards in a series (Unreal Tournament III) and sell millions. Oh well, good luck with that Epic. And yes Gears of War was amazing but just watch them kill the series by releasing sequels with all flash and no substance (Unreal Tournament III).

Eh, UT3 was good.
Just like the UTs before it it's fairly crappy online because there's barely anyone playing it.
In a few years when absolutely everyone can run it, it will be just as good as the old UTs in the LAN environment.

As long as everyone installs the Invasion and Bombing Run mods :P

It will be around for a long time. I think MS and Sony have been pushing to turn their consoles into PCjr. If that effort was successful, then PC gaming could be in real trouble. But I don't think that consumers are really going for that.

I love PC gaming, but I can't help but agree that PC gaming is in trouble. I attribute it more to the fact that pirating PC games is a piece of cake compared to console games.

I must agree.
Besides, gaming originated from consoles such as the Atari 2600, Magnavox etc. and I have a feeling that it will never change. Consoles and game systems will always be in the lead because they are harder to crack and because they are customized for optimal game performance.
