Title: GTA IV Exclusive Content Equal To San Andreas Size
Machiavelli - February 23, 2008 08:24 AM (GMT)
February 21, 2008 - So it Looks like Microsoft has finally announced what it's Exclusive DLC deal w/ Rockstar really means, according to Microsoft each episode of DLC content will be equal to the games San Andreas and Vice City for Ps2/Xbox. They have also stated that Digital Downloads will be the new way to deliver the GTA "Expansions."
So it looks like with this new announcement if you were planning on playing the Vice City/San Andreas versions of GTA IV the 360 is the Definitive version to get, with the first expansion arriving as early as Fall this year and the next one to follow-up in 2009.
GTAIV DLC
- When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV
- It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA3 Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV
- No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it
- If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions
Source: N4G.comI can't see them adding an entire city, but a town or a burg would be a possibility. Or maybe two or three hamlets. I really couldn't say for sure at this point, though. Either way, I think it's high time I picked up a cheap 120GB HD from eBay with news like this. :o

I hate it how Microsoft paid out Rockstar so they could keep it exclusive to their console. Why do they always have to try and buy out the competition? Its like EA who "must own every single copyright" when they're already making enough money as it is
I hope for my own sake that these "expansions" suck :P

If you weren't getting the 120GB HDD for Rock Band on 360, this is another reason. How much space will it take? Will the load times from streaming from the disc be negated by the downloadable nature, ie streaming content from the HDD, meaning ultimately faster load times (see Mass Effect for why streaming from the disc is rubbish)?
Also, if they're the size of San Andreas, it's really just the size of an island from GTA 3. San Andreas had a lot of empty space that was useless and made me wish for a better quick travel.

Didn't Microsoft pay $50 million for this exclusive content?
Random Hero - February 23, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Think about this, if they did/could not make a SA or VC sized city IN THE FIRST PLACE why the hell would they make it DLC?
They are not going to give us DLC that essentially doubles or triples the size of the game, it is just not going to happen.
Besides, data that huge would rape Microsoft's servers.

Fanboy! :P
I might need a bigger hard drive for some of this stuff now, Mass Effect's downloadable content and now GTA4, going to run out of those 13GBs pretty soon..
I'd only bother with this if the price is right though.

If this is true about the DLC many people may change their pre-orders to the 360 version. Especially if the DLC is really going to be basically Vice City 2 or San Andreas 2 and is exclusive; then I will 100% buy the 360 one, and I think most GTA players would too if they could only get those cities on the 360.

I don't think we'll be seeing whole San Andreas type games on DLC, thats too large. R* would make more money selling expansions like VC and SA than providing them on DLC especially since the majority of their fans are on PS...
I think the content will probably be missions, small maps, new weapons, new vehicles, new music, extra NPC's. But not SA or VC type games.
Ninja Catfish - February 24, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
I need to get this 120GB HDD then <_<
Running out of roooom!
However, this is good to know.
Maybe they'll release it as DLC for Xbox, and separate games on other consoles to make sure that Sony are appeased?
Stevorooni - February 24, 2008 06:49 AM (GMT)
muahaha my Elite hard drive has been waiting for this! :P
It'd be cool if they actually added a modern day 'Vice City' but I doubt it will be that big. We'll probably just get another island, or some regional areas out of town filled with missions and new vehicles
Ninja Catfish - February 24, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
Herm, posted this on Node forums and someone linked to an article stating that PS3 *is* getting DLC.
Just a long time after the 360, and the 360 will have 2 exclusive chapters also.
Apparently the news articleHave fun translating, I CBF because I googled about t and theres a few forums confirming it.
D43M0N - February 24, 2008 12:23 PM (GMT)
I would say it's 150% bogus. Rockstar AND Microsoft have said that it's 360 exclusive, and really the only way to get it on another platform would be some aspiring mod team for the eventual PC version.
DJ-Civic - February 24, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
Well I'm just glad I have a 360 for this content... suck it PS3 fanboys!
Too bad I don't have much room in my HDD. <_<
Stevorooni - February 25, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
I have plenty of space on my Elite! :D
* continues to talk about Elite *
ElPresidente - February 26, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
Elite's are good. We should keep talking about them and the complete lack of regard the owners have for HDD space considering they have so much. :D

I have about 90 gig free I think. I GOT NUTHIN ON THERE
In fact I don't even bother deleting demos of games I actually own, that's how little I have to care about space management! :P

I think people are getting a little confused about what this supposed deal is with MS. DLC is coming to the PS3, but it won't be the exclusive chapters that MS paid for. That is the way I have interpreted any news about what's coming post GTA IV's release.
With regards to this news, I'm not going to work out what I think until something official is announced. Let's get the game out first, then we can start caring about these expansions.
That said, Vice City was based on Miami and San Andreas was based on 3 cities; There's a very good chance that Rockstar have quietly been working on a GTA IV 'Miami' and a GTA IV 'Las Vegas', 'San Fran' or 'Los Angeles'. Hell it could even be all 3, eventually.
What I'm trying to say is that I do believe these expansions could be as big as 'cities' and I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. Don't just assume that because SA had 3 cities and countryside, that an expansion has to be that big too. Rockstar (if true) could just be focusing on one particular city within SA.
Ah who knows. Let me just take the easy way out and say "Goddamn I can't wait for anything GTA IV related!"
:D

Microsoft pay $50 mill and PS3 still receives substantial DLC? I highly doubt that. PS3 will probably get the stock standard stuff like new cars, clothes, houses etc. but that's it.
Lil Chaos - March 3, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Alright. Let me get this straight, Expansions For GTA IV the size of san andreas dude san an was huge omg I gota get it! :dance3:
taprod - April 12, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)
I work at EB Games and seriously I reckon the 360 pre-orders have outsold the PS3 pre-orders by at least double. Microsoft paying for this exclusivity has definitely paid off imo.
Takora - April 14, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Personally I can't wait to give GTA4 a whirl, and this DLC is even more reason to be anticipating it. I just hope the game lives up to the expectations.
NismoR34 - April 19, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Interesting to re-read this thread and indeed my suggestion/theory/whatever you want to call it about the possibility of the expansions being in the form of 'cities'.
Why is it interesting to re-read it? Because there's rumours going around (Kotaku reported on it) that this indeed could be the case. They are rumours at this stage but interesting nonetheless to see that I'm not the only one who thinks it is possible.
What sucks though is that I got laughed when I made those comments (not here) from people who think they know everything about DLC and that DLC can only mean new guns or maps, but if these rumours come true then they'll be proven wrong. Why does that suck? Well it doesn't, it will be good. What will suck is that then people won't believe that I called it...
Ah well, trivial shit to the rest of you so ignore me, especially considering it could be completely false anyway.
