Title: Okay. Help me compile my "15 PC Games" list.

Robert - February 10, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)
It basically consists of 5 FPSs, 5 RPGs, and 5 Strategy games (RTS and non-RTS). Help me complete it!

First-Person Shooters
1. Crysis
2. The Orange Box*
3. Call of Duty 4
4. Bioshock
5. Unreal Tournament III

Role-Playing Games
1. Morrowind
2. Oblivion
3. --
4. --
5. --

Strategy Games
1. Age of Empires III
2. Rome: Total War
3. --
4. --
5. --

*Yes, I know that The Orange Box is 5 games.

Okay, so basically I want opinions on 3 more RPGs and Strategy games to add to my "most awesome/games to get". You're allowed to include games that are unreleased, but make sure that they come out this year.

Also, I'm only changing my FPS category if there is a strong uproar (i.e. replacing Bioshock with Quake Wars, if there is a strong concensus (sp))

Cheers!

RPG: The Witcher? KOTOR?

Strategy: Starcraft? C&C? Dune? Risk??

AM I helping?

Ninja Catfish - February 10, 2008 09:51 AM (GMT)
For RTS I'd say I've most enjoyed C&C Generals: Zero Hour for recent RTS games.

And you do NOT want to replace any game with Quake Wars <_<

Cubeoid - February 10, 2008 10:17 AM (GMT)
Are you trying to only include recent games? If not then Deus Ex should be in the FPS list.

RPG: KoTOR is awesome. I have also heard good things about Planescape: Torment, Diablo 2 and The Witcher.

Interesting suggestions... keep 'em coming boys!

Okay, so here's a semi-updated list:

First-Person Shooters
1. Crysis
2. The Orange Box*
3. Call of Duty 4
4. Bioshock
5. Unreal Tournament III

Role-Playing Games
1. Morrowind
2. Oblivion
3. The Witcher
4. --
5. --

Strategy Games
1. Age of Empires III
2. Rome: Total War
3. C&C Generals: Zero Hour
4.
5. --

I'll also look into some other suggestions. Again, thanks!

Here is what I'd put on your list... I've removed some titles in favour of what I think are better games so be aware of that.

Entries are in no particular order. No, I don't consider Morrowind the best RPG ever.

First-Person Shooters
1. Crysis
2. The Orange Box*
3. Call of Duty 4
4. Bioshock
5. Unreal Tournament III

Role-Playing Games
1. Morrowind
2. Arcanum
3. The Witcher
4. Planescape: Torment
5. Fallout

Strategy Games
1. Supreme Commander
2. Medieval II: Total War
3. C&C Generals: Zero Hour
4. World in Conflict
5. Company of Heroes

Adventure Games- HOW COULD YOU MISS THIS!?!?
The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

That is all :P

ElPresidente - February 11, 2008 09:50 AM (GMT)
You know I share the love Borgster but that is all??? :P

Let us not forget the works of the great Tim Schaffer dagnabbit!

Day of the Tentacle
Full Throttle
Grim Fandango

The latter I still consider the greatest adventure game of all time.

Also keep an eye out for A Vampyre Story which is made by some ex-Lucasarts types and is looking like it could be a real hoot!

How could you forget Sam and Max Hit the Road?
Or the recent revival?

ElPresidente - February 12, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
Because while Sam n Max was an extremely funny and well scripted game the actual game design was quite weak. Puzzles reliant on pixel hunting, randomly using objects til you found the right answer to a puzzle and some puzzles of dubious logic stature... well Sam n Max don't rate for me as a games as a result.

The new games are fun as well and not as convoluted as the original but they are starting to become formulaic especially now we are in the second 'season' of the game.

I love Sam n Max but not for the reasons a game should be loved, more for the reasons a good TV show should be loved.

So no, not forgotten, deliberately excluded. Compared to the others listed that is.

Wow, so many suggestions!

Its preferable to have recent games, but older games are fine if I can find them easily. You see, I'm making a "15 PC Games (to play this year)" list.

ElPresidente - February 12, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
It is really only in the adventure & RPG genres that you need worry about being given suggestions for older games. Put simply neither genre has recieved a number of good games recently.

The Witcher is the only RPG in the past 5 years I would put on that list for instance.

Drake - February 12, 2008 07:15 AM (GMT)
And if SPORE or STARCRAFT II come out this year, more then likely they'll rock. Replace CoH with SC2 and cram Spore in there somewhere (anywhere).

If you have to lose any strategy games to add things like Spore, Starcraft, or Starcraft II, those last two are the ones I'd lose. Forget Warcraft III, that was a train wreck (balance issues) Getting rid of The Witcher adds room for finer classics. Getting rid of Unreal adds room for some of the more fanfavs people are listing, like F.E.A.R. or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Resident-Seven - February 12, 2008 07:45 AM (GMT)
What about Hellgate. I've got it, but haven't actually played it.

Oh yes, I agree, I was more going back to the old meme of almost forcing people to get into TLJ :P But yes there are many other adventure games worth looking at, especially if you're talking about games on the PC worth playing, the Adventure genre should be apart of the list :)

Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire.

Failing that, Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire.

Failing that a second time, Supreme Commander and Masters of Orion 2.

thebigm - February 13, 2008 04:22 AM (GMT)
You're missing out on Deus Ex.. unless you've already played it :)

ElPresidente - February 13, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
Currently download Sins... can't wait. Thank you Stardock!

Oh and of course you NEED Civilisation IV. Still the best TB 4X game going around IMO.
