Title: Devil May Cry 4

My impressions of DMC4 (Slight spoilers). I'll just preface this by saying that I've been playing the DMC series since its inception. Actually, I remember trying out a demo for the original DMC before it was released. That demo blew me away, as did the full game. Needless to say, the sequel was a huge letdown. I assume even the most argumentative of posters here will agree on this much. DMC3 was a return to form, in a way. It got rid of the weak difficulty of DMC2, put the focus back on Dante, and had some great boss fights. Now, DMC4 has arrived, and sadly, it's a mixed bag.
Pros:
-Smooth controls
-Fast game play
-Sharp graphics
-Plenty of hidden goodies
-Leaderboard
-Replay value
Cons:
-Arbitrary and random fights
-Mostly empty, bland levels
-Tired, repetitive combat
-Backtracking
-Annoying camera
-Nero, Kyrie, Agnus, His Holiness, Credo...mostly derivative and silly character designs
I'm on Mission 8, and so far, it reminds me more of DMC and DMC2 than DMC3, which basically means it's a mixed bag of quality. The graphics are sharp, animations are fluid, but it barely feels next-gen. I was more impressed with the graphics in Lost Planet, to be honest.
Bottom line is, the series has gotten stale. DMC3 made a strong attempt at reviving it, but, as the saying goes, 'one step forward, two steps back.' DMC4 does little to make the series seem relevant. If anything, it does the series a huge disservice by sticking so close to the established formula. In doing so, it felt like I was playing Devil May Cry: The Greatest Hits, not DMC4, a full-fledged next-gen entry to one of the most hardcore action series ever created. :(

Interesting thoughts there man.
I don't own the game yet so I can't really comment on it, but from what I played of the demo it was more brilliant DMC action. As in, if it's not broke don't fix it. It felt like I was playing Devil May Cry with pretty graphics and well honestly, I was and still am totally fine with that.
Devil May Cry is a unique franchise that I am actually happy to have more of the same with, a rarity when you compare it to most other franchises. As I said before though, haven't played the game properly yet so we'll see what my thoughts are when I finally do get around to getting it.

Its sitting right infront of me but I won't be playing it until I finish my back catalogue of games. But the demo showed me a quick glimpse of the game and I really enjoyed it. I'll also be honest and say that I've never finished a DMC game before... I have #3 here too but never got around to finishing it... probably cos of its ridiculously hard nature.

Don't worry, I never finished DMC 3 either. I have finished the first game though. (haven't played the second)

I kind of have to admit, even though the different enemies keep the Devil Bringer fresh. At times the moves feel extremely lacking.

If you want a good story go play a role playing game or something, even DMC1 had cheesy lines and that's likely the way DMC will always be, regardless of who the main character is. Of course you are entitled to your opinion but the majority of people will disagree with you. Dante is a badass.

Ok I finished it last night and while not exactly a AAA game, I still had more fun with it than with most games. It's the first game (non online) in this generation that kept me hooked playing through the night even though stuff to do the next day. I wouldn't say to everyone to go out and buy it, but I do recommend it to everyone to play it somehow.

Old enough to pass the age restriction I hope :P Bloody games containing so much blood nowadays, tsk tsk. However if you have a japanese PS3 like mine every game containing blood will be censored - hooray! :(
I found DMC3 too hard so I doubt I'll be buying this anytime soon. I could always rent it from my local Civic though and give it a whirl. The LE version is nice if you want to get a free copy of the vol 1 anime DVD

I'm fifteen. So I'm not that young. But I am just a teen. And my PS3 is americanized. Thank God.

I really enjoyed my playthrough of this. I'll definately be going back to it on a harder difficulty after I play more Gears of War.
