Title: What should I get?

Fanatic - January 31, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
I've saved up a bit of money and decided to spend it.
I've always wanted an Xbox360 but I also recently played the PS3 and quite enjoyed it.

So which should I get?

Quatters - February 1, 2008 07:55 AM (GMT)
Which has more games on it you want?

That's what you should buy.

borgster101 - February 1, 2008 08:13 AM (GMT)
^ Yep pretty much.

And with 360 and PS3 a lot of the 3rd party games are on both platforms, so it comes down to the exclusive games, which ones excite you more? There's your answer.

Ninja Catfish - February 1, 2008 10:20 AM (GMT)
Either that, or which one has the online community you prefer.
Often demos and such come out on X360 first.

But I'd say get the one most of your friends have so you can play online with them.

NismoR34 - February 1, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
I would go for the 360 at the moment purely because you have access to the best of both worlds. On the exclusives front, you have all the big name titles like BioShock and Mass Effect and at the same time you also have access to all of the multiplatform titles.

So yeah, 360 would be my choice at the moment purely because you have access to the most stuff. That said, ask this question next year and things could be completely different.

Bioshock is on PC though Nismo :P

If you have good enough PC, the 360 "exclusives" diminish quite a bit.

I intend to buy the new PSWii60. :P

360 doesn't support Blu-ray (only the dying HD-DVD even though it's an accessory) out of the box, has no intrawebs browser, doesn't support hard drive upgrading unless made by Microsoft which they price way over norm, has proprietary wireless, requires a wireless adapter for wifi, along with RRoD and defunct cooling systems. It also only supports the inferior HDMI 1.2 out instead of the superior HDMI 1.3 out which has become standard providing better picture quality, sound quality, and transfer rate quality.

If you'd have asked this six months ago, I would have told you to get the 360. Now, however, it's come to my attention that most of the 360's big games are already here... Additionally, the 360 has an incredibly high failure rate, which I can attest to (my 360 is RRoD).

If you really like action games, then the 360's a good choice. There's a lot of good FPS's on 360. But there's not really much else... Forza 2 and Viva Pinata come to mind as some decent 360 games that aren't shooters/action games, but having said that, PS3 will have Gran Turismo 5 soon, anyway, and Viva Pinata's available on PC...

PS3 has blu-ray, which is nice. Also, there are some great looking exclusives on the horizon, like MGS4, LittleBigPlanet and Final Fantasy 13.

Six months ago I thought the PS3 was rubbish, but I've started to see that it has some good games coming, and I'm also a bit less inclined to recommend the 360 at the moment because mine's just broken the other day, which I'm still a bit cut about. I'm pleased about the extended warranty for RRoD, though.

So, in the end as everyone's said, it's up to you. Xbox 360's a great choice if you really like action games/FPS's, but not if you like things that don't break. PS3's a great choice if you want to watch blu-ray movies and play LittleBigPlanet and if you do like things that don't break.

All new consoles break... They just don't all announce it with an RROD.
My Wii freezes, and I know of people on their 4th Wii.
I imagine give it 6 months or so, and you'll find the faults in PS3s as well.

It's the problem with more complex consoles, always more to go wrong.

SNES if you like things that don't break :D

Well if you wait another few months, the PS3 in the 120gb will be available (already confirmed in USA). Also there's a rumour going around that the PS3 will have a slimmer design (lighter, smaller, more curvy) towards the end of this year or early next year. So if you wait a bit you should be able to get a bargain/better model

All new consoles break...

Everything breaks. But when things are made with cheap parts, their tendency to break is vastly aggravated.

Anyway you look at it, the 360 is clearly the least reliable console though.

Stealste - February 2, 2008 12:04 PM (GMT)
I'd agree with Xbox 360's being unreliable, but i've mastered a tactic that allows me to get free ones anyways, so i just got my fourth one, added to another that i managed to keep as well. But i honestly prefer the 360 to the PS3 or Wii. Halo 3 for the main part, but other than that the controller is the most perfect gaming creation on the planet. The 'trigger' buttons on the PS3 are a botch job and i can't enjoy the games for frustration at such an awful, awful design for a controller. Not a brilliant reason, i know, but hey, i'm shallow :P

NismoR34 - February 5, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
Anyone who denies the 360's poor reliability doesn't have eyes, simple as that.

But really, I think people do focus on the negatives of the 360 when trying to say that another console is better.

I don't think ANY negative for ANY console should be used while trying to help someone decide. What should be said is exactly what each platform offers (and perhaps why), allowing the person asking to make their own informed choice.

If money didn't limit anybody or their purchases then we all know that the best answer would be "Get all 3!", because they're all fucking brilliant.

Go for the 360. It has the achievement system, which always drives you to do good and is a good comparison to other people around the world. It also has a very good online system and many good games that are strictly for the 360.
