Title: Crysis Heading to PS3?
Machiavelli - January 21, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
January 16, 2008 - Even before the PC version released, rumours of a PS3 conversion of the stunning Crysis (developed by Far Cry creators Crytek) were rife, and not far off the mark if insiders at the studio are to be believed. The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5. Like the PC game you can expect a visual powerhouse; an open-world shooter that begins on a beautiful tropical island before things take a turn for the worse and aliens from a parallel world stake a claim on Earth. Only the mighty Killzone 2 could possibly hold a candle to this shooter. For technical reasons we hear an Xbox 360 version of Crysis isn’t in development. Bet you’re glad you bought a PS3 now, eh?
Source: Games RadarAfter it's relatively poor sales, I wouldn't rule out some kind of a port. If someone thought it was worthwhile to port Supreme Commander, I imagine a console cash-in for Crysis must look pretty attractive.

Its still cheaper than buying a $10,000 gaming pc to run the game :P

My 6 month old PC struggled with the demo so I never bothered buying the full version. A PS3 version has me interested, even if dual analogue controls suck for FPS's

Wasn't Crysis a whole lot a flash without a lot of substance according to viewers. I mean, yeah, it looks great graphically but what I've heard is that it's not like AAA or anything.

It has been averaging 91% on Game Rankings so actually most reviewers have been saying it is fantastic.
And it is. Crysis is most assuredly a AAA shooter. Play it. Love it.

You don't *need* a $10,000 PC to play it.
If you're not fussed about having EVERYTHING running in DX10, with EVERYTHING on ultra mega high.
Exactly the same thing happened with Doom 3.
In the end people realised, as I have, that the game is no less of a game if you haven't got smooth smoke etc.
I predict that the PS3 version will only look like a PC version running High anyways, not this ultra high that you do need a $10k PC for.
I'm planning on upgrading my PC soon, so for that I am delaying playing Crysis, but my brother's currently playing it on a PC I built from my old parts (Athlon64 4000+ single core CPU, 2GB 200Mhz RAM, ATi X800 GPU) on Medium and he's still enjoying the game.

I've got to say I'd be impressed if the PS3 pulled it off looking like a PC playing it on high.
Not that it matters. Yes Crysis will always be remembered as that giant graphics whore game but what really makes Crysis worth owning is the gameplay and not the graphics.
Even with diminished visuals on the PS3 it will still offer a type of shooter gameplay not available on a console platform... hell it is barely available on a PC platform. Not even FarCry is as freeform in its gun play as this is.

I've always thought Crysis would be a game that would be forgotten about when its high end graphics are the norm ... perhaps there's more to it after all?

There were some really unique and fun ideas, but the lack of decent weapons until the game is nearly over limits the overall replayability.
