Title: Why doesn't nintendo offer wii game demos?
segax - December 22, 2007 01:55 AM (GMT)
Okay .. both MS and Sony have offered game demos for a while, which made me think why doesn't Nintendo offer a similar service ?

Probably because of the lack of space available on the Wii
If they released a hard drive or allowed games to be played directly off of SD cards then they probably could.
There's gonna be some DS demo channel thing where you can download DS games to your Wii then send it from there to your DS

True never thought about space .. so where to do all the port games get stored ?
DS demos would be cool .. any ideas when that might happen.

Port games can be stored inside of the flash memory on the Wii simply because they're so tiny - a virtual arcade game takes up only a miniscule sliver of space :)

Yep, space is basically the issue.

I'm not sure if it's already happening in Japan.
I'd assume we'd get it sometime in 2008 :P

They don't release game demos cos that would be like offering their games free of charge -with most Wii games being short and forgetful mini-game-filled party titles! :P
I'm right, am I? huh?

I see what you did there ;)

QFT!!
I really think they should let games run off SD cards. They're so cheap and it's not like you'll need 20gigs or so anyway!

It is more than just a space issue. Nintendo have traditionally been very anti-demo. Even in the days of the Gamecube where disc based demos were a possibility Nintendo was not coming to the party.
Typical of a company stuck in the past the way Nintendo is. Sorry, they are great game designers but their business practices and lack of regard for their fans drives me insane.

They do offer DS demos though, through the Wii itself (though only in Japan at the moment) I think the lack of disc based demos on GCN and Wii was a cost issue, Nintendo is a company that doesn't like spending money regardless of how profitable they are. And yes discs are cheap, but again conservative Nintendo.
I suppose at least Nintendo always have major showing at events like eGames where you can play Wii demos, but this has the limited access problem.
