Title: Community Expanding
arcalypse - November 26, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
Alright, well I believe that we all know that the community is not yet “dead” and there are several committed members here that would like to see it soar, but my question is “how” are we going to go about doing that. Obviously, we need to do something to get more members, but exactly “what” is that. There are many theories that implicate advertising, but what sets us apart from OTHER forums? Well I can tell you right now that there are some negatives about this forum in which I will not say until I have a guarantee that people are not going to go off of the deep end on me. The only reason I am even investing time to post this is to see if anyone will even TRULY consider what I am saying, if not, I have no reason to help… I have moderated at IFLimits.com, GameRenders.com, ZetaStyles.com many others, but not that big… I almost moderated for IFSZ, but I will NEVER moderate there with those stuck up bastards…

This place is far from dead, it has a slow day now and again but that's it?

Its not a matter of it being dead, its a matter of expanding before it BECOMES dead...

Eh, I like this forum to be my 'small' forum if you will.
I tried Hyperactive for years but then realised it was crappy due to the large amount of members meaning you never actually get to know all but the most distinguished members.
The biggest forum i use is Vooks, which is moderately large, but I've been there since almost the start, and have hence become a distinguished member :P
This is my smaller, more tight knit forum. I like it :D

I can understand you wanting to be more of an individual, and of course, this is only "advice" which is willingly solicited, but also at request. If there is no intent to have more posters, I am fine with that, really not my position to make that decision :)

This place (and I should know since I'm the 7th member ever here ;)) has always had the 'small' community, or rather, forum feel that Ninja alludes to above. Most of us use it as our 'small' forum alongside some other bigger forums that we also attend. It'd be great to see this place expand and thrive a little more than it does at times, but with an expanded userbase also comes the possibility of having the community as a whole change (perhaps for the worse).
Either way, I'm happy with how Evo is now and if it improves, then that's just even better.

Yeh i like the cozy feel in here, but i think it could be a little more active....but im fairly new, i havnt seen the forums that much, i may change my mind.

Large forums eventually signal the death of the forum for the original members in a majority of the cases.
Whiskerz - January 14, 2008 09:27 AM (GMT)
In a majority but if you have a community with morals and stuff, who shun...well dumb asses and spammers, then it usually works.

This place deserves more attention.

I think that a small expansion would do good.
More thing topics= More things to talk about = more topics= more posts= more activity= more people that browse though our page will check it out im not gonna lie at first i was like woah not very big hmmm but i kinda like it but my point is like i post in a topic and i stay as last poster for a few days....

Coming up with new threads in the off topic is the hard part (you need creative people sometimes for that) and if we make threads for every single game that comes out then everything becomes inactive because there's too many threads to browse through and little worth posting about. We only make threads about stuff that appeals to us like the big franchises (Halo, Final Fantasy, Burnout, GTA etc) or those classic games that nobody's heard about

I see your point but there are some things that could be done to make the community more"hippity hoppity" I have posted a couple threads regrading this stuff like sig of the week and junk ya know

I realise that to which I've already replied to. Basically its "been there, done that - didn't work out"
I know you're trying to help us out with this + the other threads but even if you combined all those ideas together it wouldn't be enough to accumulate a steady traffic flow of long-staying visitors. Spreading the word was the way this forum first evolved and when you compare it to other popular forums it depends on who signs up rather than focusing on what the features of the forum are
The features are a nice gimmick but its no permanent stay

Simply upgrading to VB3 and having the forums catalogued by search engine spiders will do wonders.
