Title: Vista 64 Bit
Description: How goes it?

Just a quick one here - I'm in the middle of some upgrades at the moment and am seriously considering the jump to a 64 bit operating system - does anyone have any information regarding how well SLI and general compatibility runs under the 64bit version?

El Prez, I notice you advertise 4 gig of ram, which wouldn't be addressable in a 32 bit system.

If no one has any information, I'm happy to let this fade off into obscurity, but this is certainly a situation where I'd like to look before I leap.

It depends.

When you install drivers and other software onto the 64-bit OS it absolutely *must* be certified by Microsoft. Because 64-bit is new and such, MS don't want it to be bugging up for people who don't know better who might install 32 bit drivers in a 64 bit OS.

Main problm would be if you've ever encountered a driver in XP which said something along the line sof "This driver is not signed by Microsoft" or something and you need to click "INSTALL ANYWAY" to continue, that probably won't install on 64-bit.
Examples include my mobile phone drivers, old webcam, and generally older peripherals and drivers.

If you wanted to go 64 bit, I'd personally buy the Retail edition of Vista 32, try it out, and then you can pay a small fee of something like $20 to get a 64 bit disc as well. Gives you the choice of rolling back I guess.

I hate Vista because I spent good cash for it and It gave me nothing but nightmares, so I had to un-install it. Now I am waiting till for SP1 so that I can reinstall and hope my Vista experience is slightly more pleasant this time.

I did have a lot of initial problems.

For about a week after spending $700 on new hardware and Vista it kept random freezing.

After updating *all* the drivers it seems fine.
