How is this place getting duller? You've been here for 5 days, so I don't really think you're able to make such a broad statement.

As for a chatroom, it's rather useless on a message-board and sort of defeats the whole purpose of being here. Evo has a relatively small (in comparison to other places) group of reliably active members; how do you propose that a chat-room will spice things up?

Agreed. You have not been here long enough to judge if things are getting duller or not.

The chat room thing has been brought up before, and it's been decided that such a feature would not generate any greater activity around the place.

Chat rooms (I believe you're referring to the IRC type...) have been done before, however were not successful.

A shout box would probably be better.

borgster101 - November 19, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
We had the Shout Box before, turned into a Spam Box, hardly worth it.

That and it caused the forums to load slowly / crash on a fair few occasions.

Sorry I didnt realise that. :(

Well, in regards to the chatroom, I believe that it is a superb idea, but within context. Remember, that fundamentally, using a chatroom to bring in traffic could improve activity by a sliver, but not only that, the activity would be the wrong kind. There would be spammers, bots, advertisers, and people with intent to defile Evolution’s name. I am sure that most posters here would agree that being able to utilize and partake in the benefits of a chatroom’s instant communication is a positive thing. But make no mistake about it, a chatroom would be a privilege if implemented. This would obviously be a reward to real members that post here, and should require “X” amount of posts to use the feature. The beauty of this is that, though the concept takes a bit of work, and research, every member that is active here, will be able to exercise the right to use the function, which is incentive to stay longer, and post extensively.

I remember hyper used to have an IRC channel, which I used for a while and then stopped using... If we were going to have a chat room thingy, IRC would probably be the way to go, though... But I probably wouldn't bother using it :P

NismoR34 - November 22, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
Hyper still have their chatroom, actually.

But we don't have a strong enough userbase for an Evo chatroom so it won't be happening anytime soon.

I don't really think it is necessary to install a chat room, what does it give to you ?
A piece of advice, improve what you have before creating.

A chat room here....at one time wouldnt there be <6 members on?
plus majority of ppl in chat rooms dont talk......one person talking to themselves?

IRC would be the way to go, if we wanted a chat room, i think its not for this community tho.
