Welcome to the first installment of the "What Game Was That?" series.

Rules are as follows:

One person gives a clue to an retro/classic game, the first person to guess the game correctly gets a point. That person who guessed correctly then gives the next clue for someone else to guess, and so on and so forth. The person with the most correct guesses (points) at the end is declared the winner. The first series will conclude at ten points.

Second guesses are not permitted. If you currently have a guess posted without confirmation that is the right or wrong answer. You do not get to guess another game in the meantime. This to prevent people from mass-guessing games.

Winner of the first series will acquire "user posted image Retro Champ" just under your joined date.

Member Scoreboard:
1. g1ggy (2 points)

First Game Clue: This classic adventure game featured a mine-cart riding sequence.

quartz_donkey - April 28, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
Donkey Kong Country comes to mind but surely thre are hundreds.

Machiavelli - April 28, 2006 10:59 AM (GMT)
No. Hundreds... you think? I'll narrow it down with an extra clue - it's a NES game. :)

Random Hero - April 30, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
Bionic Commando on the nes had a level where you had to ride a Mine cart.

Machiavelli - May 2, 2006 04:40 AM (GMT)
No, here's another hint. You had to collect 100 of something to get to the final boss.

quartz_donkey - May 6, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
Umm Impossible misson?

Machiavelli - May 6, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
Ok perhaps the first game is a tad hard. Rather large clue coming up.

Fill in the dots and you'll have it: F........ A......... O. D....

Random Hero - June 12, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy!!

ok this game had a character called soda popinski :D

g1ggy - August 29, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
never heard of that character...system?

auhsor - August 30, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
I have a suggestion that people make clues that are not easily searched. I've never heard of soda popinski, but a simple search did the trick. I'll sit out of this question though.

g1ggy - August 30, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
I'm not gonna sit it out :P

It was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

I'm thinking of a black and white game about a colour

Random Hero - September 2, 2006 06:07 AM (GMT)
finally somebody got it boy i didnt think it would take that long!!

g1ggy - September 5, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
GameBoy Pocket

R3AP3R - September 5, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)

I don't think I'll answer your question reaps....just think about the clue :D

R3AP3R - September 5, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
one more clue come on!

g1ggy - September 5, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
OK, but not something as obvious as the cartridge colour. I can only think of one game with a black cartridge, and it wasn't this one

^clue

R3AP3R - September 5, 2006 10:52 PM (GMT)
man am i determined to win this just let me think...

g1ggy - September 5, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
OK...

Quick everyone, quess while he's thinking :P

Random Hero - September 6, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
killer instinct is only black cart i remember?

R3AP3R - September 6, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
Ah hah i think ive got it.

wait he said the cart wasnt black I guess Pokemon Red and Blue as they were in black and white and they had red and blue in their names so its about colour.

NismoR34 - September 6, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
Perfect Dark on the GBC had a black cartridge, didn't it?

BrotherEstapol - September 7, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
All gameboy colour games that could also work with the old gameboys were black(or dark grey really), whilst all GBC only games were transparent.

All I can think of are the Pokemon games, but I don't think that's right.

Yes, that's right, it was Pokemon Red/Blue!

lol Brother Estapol, why do you doubt yourself?

Drake - September 8, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
Next question please, ima gonna nail it, hopefully anyway...

g1ggy - September 8, 2006 05:26 AM (GMT)
Waiting for R3AP3R to ask something. In the meantime, could we get the scoreboard on the first page of this topic fixed. Brother Estapol did not guess the game first, R3AP3R did, and is therefore entitled to a point.

R3AP3R - September 12, 2006 10:19 PM (GMT)
OK the game I'm thinking about is a GB game (old one) and you the name of the character's weapon is in his name.

g1ggy - September 12, 2006 10:38 PM (GMT)
so let me get this straight.

You are a character, named "(insert name here)"

Your weapon also contains the words "(insert name here)"

In other words, your name can be found in your weapon's name

I'm assuming it's an RPG?

R3AP3R - September 13, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
your wepons name is in the main charries name and their is only one weapon. Its not an RPG

g1ggy - September 17, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)
hmm..nothin comes to mind

Another clue?

R3AP3R - September 17, 2006 10:45 PM (GMT)
its a platform game.

g1ggy - September 18, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
System?

R3AP3R - September 19, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
I already said GB you $#@% jks

Robert - September 29, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
Ghosts 'n' ghouls?

R3AP3R - October 8, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
ok the game is called *****man and the ***** is the name of the weapon that he uses.

g1ggy - October 8, 2006 10:45 PM (GMT)
bomberman!

g1ggy - October 12, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
I'll assume I'm right, so

I'm thinking of a game about heroic animals.

NismoR34 - October 14, 2006 06:33 PM (GMT)
^ That could be quite a few games...
