Description: Because I can!

borgster101 - October 31, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
In an attempt to get things going with this again, I've nominated myself for the Spotlight, Freak's finished ages ago and it appears he didn't select a new person to take over, so I'm using my mod powers to get this going again! :P

So ask away :)

Oh yeah rules and stuff ...

  • At the commencement of each new spotlight, an individual will be selected from the previous spotlight to be the new person participating in the spotlight.
  • The prospective spotlight member must have posted a question in the previous spotlight thread.
  • The prospective spotlight member cannot have been previously spotlighted.
  • The selection for the new spotlight member is made at the discretion of the person currently spotlighted
  • Unless indicated otherwise, any individual posting a question in a spotlight thread indicates that if selected, they will take up the spotlight.
  • Each post has a limit of five questions. However, there is no limit as to the total amount of questions an individual may ask.
  • You will need a post count no lower than 15 to enter a question. Non-contributing replies will be considered spam and will result in you having to start from scratch.
  • All questions must abide by the Evolution Forum Rules.

4. If someone said to you, 'nuke a country of your choice, or everyone you know dies', what would you do, and if nukes are destined to fly, at which country are they aimed at?
5. Would you castrate yourself for the continuation of the games industry?

Enjoy. :P

3. How tall are you?

1. Car.

2. This has been a fairly major issue in my life at the moment, I'm in my final year of my undergraduate degree, and such I applied for various graduate jobs mainly in Accounting roles, I got to the last interview in a couple but didnt get any offers.

While disapointing at first, it might have been for the best, since I'm doing a double degree, my other degree is in economics, and I have much stronger grades in that displine, and I also enjoy the subject a lot more. I managed to get a job at my university teaching a second year economics subject, things have turned around. So I want to be an Economist, probably working in the public sector, I'll have do my honours next year.

As for what I want to become, I guess someone who enjoys life and perhaps makes a difference in this world, but mainly I just want to be happy :)

3. I'm not exactly sure, let's just say I'm short. A quick measurement with a ruler I found, using the hold your thumb in place trick, says 151cm, seems about right.

2. No, my card skills stop with Snap and Uno ;)

3. Ninja's, they're stealthy and more deadly.

Questions:

1. What do you look like? (and be very descriptive - so descriptive I should be able to draw a portrait of you and publish it online)

2. Do you still enjoy watching wrestling?

3. Are you the only real 'gamer' in your house? (minus family playing with Wii)

Umm, have you seen my Mii? If you still had a Wii I could send it to you! :P It gives you some idea :P

But ok, *thinks*, I have brown short hair, and brown eyes, white skin, that can easily get sunburnt! Umm .. mediumish to light build, I'm the type that can eat a lot and yet not put on much weight, so while I'm not skinny, I'm kind of borderline underweight, I think I weigh about 65kg. Man it's so much easier to post a pic, but if I do the suspense is ruined! :P

It's funny I think most of our Evo staff dont have any pics of themself up, we must be a scary bunch

2.
Not really, I do occasionally (and I use that term very loosely) watch WWE, but it's more like while I'm flicking through channels than religiously watching it every week. I think I've grown out of it.

3.
No, my brother is also quite the gamer, so we can play multiplayer co op and what not. It also allows us to share the financial burden of owning two next generation consoles, so it's cool :D

4.
Hmm, I guess it was back on the old PC, where my parents bought it for school, but then I ended up playing Commander Keen on it a lot, I had an Atari but dont remember much of it, I think I got all the shit licensed games like ET, so I don’t have many good memories of it.

Keep those questions coming guys! :)

Would you ever consider rolling a little fat kid down a hill just to see how far he would go?

Should I audition for Big Brother?

What does the word "supercalafragalistic" say about (how does it comment on) society?

1. I would now! :P

2. Nah, the show sucks, plus I think it does more damage to someone that any 'benefits'.

3. Sounds like something out of Mary Poppins! Which means it says there's an efficient nanny from England for all of us! We just have to keep our eyes open in the sky for those women flying with umbrellas. I saw one last week, they're becoming more common these days, I guess people are getting busier with their lives.

Ok that went kind of random :P

If I finished Twilight Princess, would you give me money?

I hate selling games and never want to sell any of the games I own now, however, it's looking like I'll miss out on a few really good titles this year because money is going elsewhere at the moment. Should I just wait until I can afford these titles (whenever that will be), or, should I sell off some games that I no longer play?

Do you like rain?

What music are you into? (I swear I've seen what you're into)

Do you listen to or watch any Podcasts/Vodcasts?

No, but I could give you Gamerscore :P

2.
Hmm, it's a tough one. Like you, I'm not a fan of selling games either, but at the same time if it's a choice between keeping games you own but wont be playing or selling those games in order to buy new ones, I think I'd probably sell some at least to experience the absolute MUST HAVE title, like say a Wii and Metroid Prime 3 ;)

On the other hand, if the time where you can afford the games isn't too far off, then perhaps it wont be such a bad thing to wait, since the new games you want, would be cheaper later on, these days it doesnt take long for some games to get cheap, like say the mid year EB sales.

Though if you do sell anything, I'd suggest that you don't sell everything, otherwise you'll regret it later.

3.
With water in such short supply these days, I've grown to like the rain, but I've never hated it back when water supply issues wasnt a big issue. Dont think I could say I like rain itself, but I certainly don't hate it.

4.
No particular genre really, unlike most youth I don't listen to a lot of music, not sure why  . So thats the sort of question I can't really answer. Though I do tend to enjoy thematic music for some reason :P

5.
Yes, typically videogame related. I listen to the Game Theory podcast (gametheoryshow.com) covers the entire industry, with issues discussed in a mature professional manner, they have great guests from the industry as well.

I also listen to others from time to time, like IGN's Wiik in review, the PALGN podcast, Vookcast and so on.

And there's this other one, not sure if you've heard of it stars this guy that has the same name as me, he's so awesome, he's got this puppet co-host called .... uh what was it .... ?? Umm forwardslash or something? Anyway they discuss the gaming industry and bring in guests from this very forum! I'm still waiting to get a PM from the guys to be a guest myself! :D You should check it out! :P

Update on Height
Oh yeah, I'm closer to like 170cm :P Sorry for the confusion, like I said before the first one was a quick measurment with a ruler so got to allow for margin of error :P But yeah still short ...

How can you 'give or take' 20cm?! Was there a growth spurt during the night? Did you start wearing high heels?

borgster: "Oh hey, remember when I told you I was 40cm tall? Well I made a mistake and I'm actually 220cm! And I'm actually a black african-american instead of a white asian-australian midget. I just totally forgot you know?"

I'll take a stab over the weekend and publish it in the art thread

You try measuring your height with a 30cm ruler, it's not easy you know! I think a 20cm margin of error is pretty good considiring, I only realised when I found a tape measure :P

This facination of what I look like is getting umm scary  But hey, this could be fun, maybe we'll find out if you can be one of those police sketch artists ;)
I used to have pimples but not anymore, yay for getting out of puberty :P. No tattoos or scars either, zero moles on my face, though I have three in a row all perfectly in line behind my right ear! :o

No facial hair since I shave, though at the moment it's growing back a bit, so it's like a shadow or whatever you call it :P I guess I have medium sized ears, normal nose. That probably doesnt help much, it's hard to describe yourself without any mirrors in the house ... yes not even I know what I look like! I've been going off what people have told me over the years, they could have been lying for all I know! :nooo:

You don't have a single mirror in your house?! WTF?

1. Have you ever been abroad?
2. What's the worst injury you've ever had?
3. Say you're offered $1 billion...the catch is, that to actually get it, you have to shoot a complete stranger in the head. WHAT DO YOU DO?!
4. What's the first thing you notice in the opposite sex?
5. I dislike the theory of unitary elasticity. Do you?

:P

Andy - November 4, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
1. I'm seeing an annoying ad right now talking about "What could you blow $94 a week on?" I think the hypothetical question is stupid. However, if you have $94 a week to blow, what would you use it on - a regular weekly purchase thing?

"Games" is not an answer in this case. It's too easy.

2. Which videogame character would you most like to meet in real life and why?

3. As graphics have tried to resemble photo realism for many years now, do you find the stylised graphics (a la Team Fortress 2) refreshing, or a step backwards? (If the interviewer can interject with an opinion here, i think it's a step forward)

4. If every developer were come up with it's own version of the Orange Box (ie older games packaged in with its current release), who would you choose? (If you can't tell, i'm trying to formulate questions from your sig)

5. If you could have any videogame creature as a pet (or as a familiar which would obey your every command), which would you choose?

Resident-Seven - November 4, 2007 01:32 AM (GMT)
What I originally meat to ask was GH3, or Rock Band. :P

2. What's your favourite Alcohol?

3. SNES or MegaDrive?

1.
Yes, when I was 10, I went on a 3 month tour around the world, visited USA, Canada and Europe (Italy, Spain, England, Malta, France, Germany, Austria, others I cant remember). I want to go again since it's been a while, I'd like to go to Japan next actually.

2.
Hmm, I haven't had any serious injuries, so I suppose the closest would be when I had an asthma attack at around the age of 6, I had to be in the hospital for a few weeks, a scary time.

3.
Decline the billion dollars, money isn't everything.

4.
I'd hit it :P

Nah seriously, I'm not that superficial  . Though I can't think of anything else at the moment ...

5.
Not particularly, all it says is that if the elasticity you calculate is equal to -1, then demand is unit elastic. Which implies that a 1% increase in the price, will reduce demand by 1%. I suppose the only silly thing about it, is that there's probably no goods that are unit elastic.

$94 a week would get a me a new videogame every week, I guess I'd blow it on that, not that I'd be able to play everything, and I'd probably end up owning every game on the planet, might get me on some gaming site one day though, for the awesome collection photos ;)

Oh games is not the answer? Damn ...

well in that case I'd blow it on some random book/novel, I probably need to read more anyway.

2.
April Ryan (see avatar) who wouldn't? :P

3.
Certainly a step forward, the push for all games to be photo realistic doesn't make the games any more enjoyable too play in my opinion. There's also the problem of the Uncanny Valley, i.e. something tries to look photo realistic, but fails due to some slight imperfections in turn making the characters look hollow, shallow and empty.

Super Mario Galaxy is another example, a lot of the big AAA games coming out soon are mainly focussed on realistic graphics and mature themes, it's refreshing to see Mario is still important and relevant, and it shows that you dont need photo realism to look good.

It depends on the context of the game, it's appropriate for certain games, but it doesn't mean every game should take the same approach, otherwise things will get boring. It's all about variety :)

4.
Resident Evil would be pretty cool! All the older games remade (GCN style, perhaps in RE4 perspective?) packed in with Resident Evil 5, that would be pretty awesome :D

Umbrella Chronicles for Wii is kind of doing this, taking RE0, RE, and RE3 in a light gun shooter style, as well as the new content. But I'd like to see a full RE Orange Box like package!

5.
Wonkers from Dreamfall! :D

If you don't know what I'm talking about, well you'll have to play the game! :cheese:

The '101' component simply comes from the fact that I wanted just "borgster" for a Hotmail account but it was already taken, one of the suggestions was borgster101 and I thought that had a nice ring to it :D

It's also got that nerdyish vibe, like in reference to those introduction classes, (i.e. "Biology 101") as well as it seems to be something that could be used to describe computer software or something, so I figured the 101 extension was more than appropriate for a nerdy guy who likes videogames like myself :P

1. Fill in the blank: Soylent Green is ________.

2. Describe your perfect day.

3. Favorite superhero?

4. Would you rather sneeze ketchup and mustard or have your genitals glow bright red whenever you become aroused?

5. Tell us one of the more embarrassing moments of your life :D

Who is bill_goldberg?

:P

My old identity :P Based off a former WCW/WWE pro wrestler, the name is gone since I dont really care for wrestling anymore, plus it was a kind of stupid name that I made up when I was like 13 or whatever, the time when you name yourself after strong hero like type individuals :P

Angra! :o You have to make sure you stop disappearing every now and then, ok?! :P

Now on to your questions :)

1.
Some sort of radioactive waste ... ?

Sounds like a science fiction movie from the 70's as well ;)

2.
I've always had a hard time with what I'd consider to be a "perfect day", mainly because there isn't anything perfect in the strict sense of the word. It's the bad times that make us appreciate the good times more. If we had a so called "perfect life" in some sort of utopia, I'd wager that such "perfection" would in fact be chaos, because everything would be equal and thus nothing appreciated.

Though your question is about my perfect day, and thats a totally different type of perfection, everyone's own personal "perfection" is different and isn't dependent on the entire world being perfect...

What's my perfect day like?
Lets see, I guess it would have to involve my favourite things, that being!

- Playing videogames, both single and multi variety! :D
- Watching episodes of Futurama
- Eating some sort of Italian food
- Being with people I care about

That's all I can think of at the moment ..

3.
Batman! He's the most realistic and thus believable, he's all about stealth and his main advantage of his enemies is fear! I loved the Batman Animated series cartoons as a kid, and while I enjoyed the Batman movies, once I got a bit older I realised the post Burton movies where such a disgrace to the Batman franchise.

Thank goodness for Begins, it's brought the series back to where it should be! I can't wait for the sequel, The Dark Knight! :D

4.
Sometimes I will sneeze multiple times in succession, so I couldn't stand sneezing ketchup AND mustard multiple times!! So I'll have to take the second option :P Fortunately it takes a lot to get me aroused .. so it's not like I'll be glowing bright red in public or anything ...

Hey why are you looking down the. .. ??

Ah shit ... :P

5.
There was that time my genitals glowed bright red in front of everyone! :P

I can't think of many, since I'm not the type that gets embarrassed easily, since I don't really give a shit what other people think ;)

Though there was that time I farted (quite loudly) in class, it was one of those I thought I could get away with silent farts, but boy was I wrong! Various heads turned in my direction, and I quickly clamped my hands together and made a simulated fart noise by pressing my hands together, I think I fooled most people that the real fart was fake ... I guess I got embarrassed enough in that situation to try and conceal the truth ...

Thank goodness it wasn't a job interview! :P

Interviewer: "So what are your main skills?"
borgster: "Well, I can make fart noises with my hands" *makes loud fart sound*
Interviewer: "How exactly does that help to be a lawyer? And how did you simulate smells with your hands? Smells like something just died in here"
*Interviewer & borgster looks at Inquisitor*

Bahahaha :D

No worries, I won't disappear again, things have just been pretty rough at my house lately, you know?

Oh, and one more question. Blonds or brunettes?

*conceals baseball bat behind back*
