Title: Great Debate "Worm"
_MetalliX_ - October 22, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
What the hell is this worm stuff they are talking about?

Tracks audience reaction as the debate progresses.

John Howard has passed his used by date. I believe he is a poorly spoken man living in the past, and should no longer represent contemporary Australia.

A graphic on the screen during the debate - it's essentially a graph. Basically goes up or down, in positivity or negativity depending on the speaker at the current time.
It's a crock of shit. Went straight down whenever Howard said ANYTHING, and immediately went straight up before Rudd even said a word.

How can it go up or down before an answer has started, if it is meant to reflect people's opinions on how the speaker is answering.

I imagine the audience have some sort of button to press to approve or disapprove, so I guess some of them just pressed as soon as Rudd started speaking.

Even when Rudd was stumbling and lost his words at the start of an answer the worm went straight up to the top. :o

In the last three debates the Worm went against the incumbent but he went on to win the Election. Of course voters will react more favourably to a challenger espousing new untried promises.

Yeah Howard has lost the previous "debates" but won the election, so it doesn't exactly mean much. Rudd certainly has a chance to win this election, he's doing well, though I don't see him very different from Howard, he's very conservative like Howard, so I doubt there's going to be the sort of policy we have seen under previous Labor governments with Rudd.

I'm just wondering if at the start of each 'round' the worm resets to where it finished off at the end of the last round. That might be why it appeared to jump up/down instantly.

People were approving of the speakers appearance and grooming? Shirt tie combo?

I thought they had a separate worm for the individual speaker.
I know that reading newspaper blogs is hardly an indicator of the population as a whole, but there seems to be a lot of cynicism about anything that Howard says these days. I'm not all that surprised that the worm turned against him.

God it irritates me when Howard avoids answering questions, i'm sick to death of his vague answers.
