Title: Mario Tennis
Description: Online news...

With a fiendishly challenging single player option, deliriously entertaining multiplayer matches that can cater for up to four players, and the lure of the online mode, Mario Tennis is set to soar onto Nintendo GameCube in 2005.

Is Nintendo going online? Nintendo-Europe let the first Paper Mario 2 news slip long before it was "officially" announced too. This would be a good reason for the delays.

I'll be picking this up for sure. The 64 version was gold, hopefully this one will be just as good. I'm interested in seeing what the ghosts in some of those screenshots do - do they affect gameplay or are they just there for added visuals?

Yah, I'm a big mark for the first Mario Tennis and hope Nintendo put even more love into this one. It won't be enough to simply re-vamp the visuals though - this needs to be a new standalone game or it won't be worth the money.

Online would be a very big step in the right direction.

Is anyone else getting a sense of deja vu with relation to the GCN & N64?

I'll be waiting to check out the reviews before buying. If I didn't have Top Spin things may have been different plus the fact that Camelot's Mario Golf GCN iteration didn't exactly live up to the quality of the N64 version. Let's just hope it's more than an update of the N64 version.

If you haven't played Mario Golf, and you're just going by reviews, I suggest you give her a go. She's not all-bad, and can be very, very addictive. Better then the N64 version, in my opinion...

Mario Tennis should kick arse, but why the wait til '05? I'm hangin' out for a new game, and it doesn't look like any good ones are being released until Chrissie or '05. Bastard.

Yeah I've given it a whirl and was originally intending to purchase it upon release but couldn't justify the $100 price tag.

Nintendo-Europe have change the site and said that it was miscommunication about the online. So either they don't want us to know aobut its online bits or it doesn't have anyany.

I'd say the likely thing is that it's not going to happen :(
Darn, had my hopes there for a minute.
LAN Play would be really cool...
Hang on, it's tennis.

Yay I loved the version on N64 so I'm sure I'll love this version, this game might actually get me back into playing my game cube.

rampaging_geek - May 20, 2004 06:09 AM (GMT)
The game looks good. But what I really wanted to see was an RPG mode like the GBC version had.

I want the GCN version to be as playable as the N64 version.

I could pick up the N64 version and play it for hours on end. :/

Oh yeah!
Maybe put a bit more difficulty to hitting the ball in it though... it was pretty damn easy to get it over the net.
Give me NES Tennis physics anyday!

In a video I saw, Mario's raquet changes to a hammer whilst he does a smash shot, it seems each character will have their own unique ability in this game, like in Mario Kart Double Dash!! . Other abilities I saw was koppa go into his shell and move at high speeds, Waluigi perform some kind of Spin Attack.

The courts also seem to be more interactive, with sludge slopping into the opponents court if you hit the ball in the right place on the Isle Delfino court, which can then be washed away using the FLUDD's on the side of the court.

Looks pretty cool :)

If this game's anything like Top Spin I'll be so friggin happy. Although Mazza Kart and Golf lacked a strong single-player mode, hopefully Mazza tennis rectifies this.
As for hammer-shots; sweet!
