Title: Poll of the Week 18

I am not particularly a reader type person, even more so these days due to time constraints. Sometimes after watching an enthralling movie I'll go out and purchase / read the book almost immediately - such as Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club, American Psycho etc. but those are rare occasions.

quartz_donkey - October 11, 2007 07:58 AM (GMT)
I'm always reading sometihng sometimes two books at the same time(although only one would be a novel) reading is awsomw the grosstest horror movie will nothing on a half decent horror book in terms of scary and gore and downright wrongness.

borgster101 - October 11, 2007 09:08 AM (GMT)
I don't think so, I just don't have the time, unless I spent less time playing games, but that wont happen :P

/backslash - October 11, 2007 09:38 AM (GMT)
I said "Yes, quite a few" but my books are manga graphic novels. I still consider them as books though because things like Akira expand over 1500 pages and have just the 1 storyline

I've read a few this year. 'Shogun' by James Clavell was pure excellence, 'The Histories of Middle-Earth, Volume XIII: The Peoples of Middle-Earth', by Christoper Tolkien is brilliant, if you can get past the note format that ol' J.R.R. himself spent ages writing in, and I did finish 'Jurassic Park - The Lost World' by Michael Crichton at the beginning of summer (winter, for you guys), but that was complete bollocks. Crichton sucks, generally.

I've got more to get through. I've yet to finish 'Thud!' by Terry Pratchett, 'The Dice Man' by Luke Rhinehart (which I probably won't, because it's too sensationalist for me), this massive 'Universe' DK book (which is positively astounding), 'Imperium' by Robert Harris, 'The Histories of Middle-Earth, Volume I: The Book of Lost Tales', by Christoper Tolkien, and finally, 'Tide at Sunrise: A History of the Russo-Japanese War, 1904-1905', but that's purely for my History exam. I've got another one on the same topic due from the printers next week. It's actually out of print so a one-off copy had to be made. Thank God I'm not paying for it. :P

Having quoted all those, it'll probably be quite a bit before I actually finish all of them. :D Still gotta find those god-damn Halo books too. I saw them all in a bookshop in England, all, except the first. *sigh*

Robert - October 12, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
No, reading is overrated :D

Qubert - October 14, 2007 06:40 AM (GMT)
Not alot but I do find myself reading wikipedia articles often, sometimes for a good hour or two.

Ali G - October 15, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
I voted for the top option, "yes, quite a few". I generally always have a book that I'm reading, and a whole bunch lined up to read afterwards. Hell, over two weeks holiday in July I read about eight books.

Random Hero - October 15, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
I'm always reading, why? Because it really helps you get to sleep, this is the main reason why i've always got a book on the go. :)

Texta - October 15, 2007 08:39 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I've definitely read a few. Most of them contained "law" in the title and were prescribed to me by my doctor to help me sleep I think.

Beast - October 17, 2007 08:06 AM (GMT)
I've read a lot of books this year - probably about 20. I like reading.

Andy - October 19, 2007 06:53 AM (GMT)
Yes, I've read a few. Nothing really earth shaking, though.

Da Vinci Code. Just cos. Whilst reading it, it seemed quite "hollywood" if that makes sense. Whilst it is fashionable to hate on the book, it's still a gripping little time waster.

The Murder Book - Jonathon Kellerman. Slow burn, with highly flawed characters. Quite engaging, though.

Buried Deep. Fans of the TV Show "Bones" would like it. Fan fiction, written with Kathy Reichs. A quick novel to kill a few nights with.

Dante - October 19, 2007 06:58 AM (GMT)
I have read a few books this year.

I personally can't see why everyone swoons over Dan Brown (not that I'm implying you are :P). If Angels & Demons is anything to go by, then I most certainly won't be reading The Da Vinci Code until someone buys it for me. I gave up on Angels and Demons about a quarter of the way through. I dunno; feels like Brown's got something to prove.

Whilst Da Vinci Code did take me to the end of the novel without it feeling like a chore, Brown's writing style certainly didn't compel me to pick up another of his books.

It's a lot of rush-rush, this-happens, that-happens, now-they're-at-this-place, oh-look-I'm-being-intellectual-now, rush-rush.

It's hardly a descriptive style, in where the writer paints the story with his words. But that's my opinion. I far prefer Jonathon Kellerman.

I'm reminded of Lois from Family Guy: (paraphrase) "All those short chapters makes you feel smart for having read 10 chapters a night"

Tony Takitani - October 31, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
I have read over fifty books this year. I started listing what I've read along with short comments about them.

(This is so I have a record of the good books so I can reread them at a later time)

Shaoren - November 23, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Since I am still a student, I have to read a lot of books, around 3/4 books a month.

Mike-Towns - January 1, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
Read a bit last year, the standout being
