*Updates the portal*
I'll download it once I get back to "normal" :P I seem to be getting a lot of timeout sessions on dialup speed on even the most simple webpages
Robert - October 7, 2007 01:44 PM (GMT)
Good job all up boys, but I still reckon the third podcast was the best. :) Keep 'em coming.
borgster101 - October 8, 2007 03:40 AM (GMT)
^ I wonder why that is? :P
Though it is true three people is better, since you can get conversations flowing from wider perspectives ;)
Though I was happy with how this episode turned out, with the duo :) I suppose mixing it up is also good.
Random Hero - October 8, 2007 07:27 AM (GMT)
Another great listen, btw you left the music on
borgster101 - October 8, 2007 08:36 AM (GMT)
^ Yes I know ... :P
It went on for longer, I had to edit it out, when I finally realised

I downloaded it yesterday and I'm on dialup speed! C'mon Decman, download that file!
Rob Schneider: "YOU CAN DO IT!"
Use Getright and you can resume downloading it at any time
borgster101 - October 12, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah Dec, the file size is made small for that reason!
Oh and looks like I was pretty much right on the Sonic in Brawl thing, funny how it was announced not longer after the Podcast :P
NismoR34 - October 15, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
As always, downloading as I type this and I'll be back with impressions as soon as I've heard it. :)
ElPresidente - October 15, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
Y'all need pop blockers. :D
A pop blocker is something you put over your microphone to stop 'phhhh' noises any time you say words with P, B, F, etc.
You can make one really easily with a coat hanger which you cover with a cheap pair of stockings. You then put that between your mouth and the microphone.
Anyway still listening to it as I type. And Daemon needs to donate his microphone around. There is a definite sound quality improvement when he speaks. :P
*edit*
Screw you both. Mario Sunshine is the best platformer ever. :(
And I'd like to make a musical interlude request... Burn my Dread from Persona 3. :D
Qubert - October 16, 2007 06:00 AM (GMT)
 I agree, especially borgs mic, it's terrible. It's really quiet then really loud. :P
borgster101 - October 16, 2007 10:15 AM (GMT)
I apolgise for my mic guys, it's a shit quality one, the loud/quietness is because of when I get into a flow of conversation I may move away from the mic from time to time (without thinking about it) and when doing so the quality suffers... Can't do much about that without buying a new mic ... I'm trying to stop myself from doing that to keep the quality/volume constant throughout.
As for Mario Sunshine Pres, I enjoyed the game, just didn't care for the theme/setting, Galaxy's theme/setting is rocking though ;)
ElPresidente - October 16, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
You smell like poopies.
That is all.
;)
NismoR34 - October 16, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
I'm with Pres on this one, Sunshine was an awesome game and it's a damn shame that the good majority of Ninty fans think of it is inferior to other Mario outings.
Don't compare the titles and it's a damn brilliant game. Hell, compare the titles and it's still a damn brilliant game.
Anyway...

That's just my awesomeness bringing itself out to play. Or the fact that it's a Skype certified headset, maybe, I dunno.
As for the Sunshine comments; I'm not saying it's bad, I personally never got into it because for Mario, I'm expected blocks, dungeons, and jumping on the heads of things. Instead I got a super soaker, graffiti, and Toad being there every-fucking-step-of-the-way. Couldn't have Nintendo kept him at the end of each level and limit him to one line at that?
ElPresidente - October 16, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
I'm not saying I thought you guys said it was bad. You considered it inferior to other Mario outings. Personally I think it is the best Mario game yet and significantly better than Mario 64.
borgster101 - October 17, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)
Best parts of Sunshine were those platforming challenges without the water pack! :D
The FLUDD was a nice addition for something different, and added to the platforming challenge, but I hated those stupid Piantas :P
Robert - October 17, 2007 06:45 AM (GMT)
Sunshine was mildly disappointing, but only because my expectations were incredibly high. I wouldn't say it is better than Mario 64 though. ARE YOU LOCO MANG?!?

| I wouldn't say it is better than Mario 64 though. ARE YOU LOCO MANG?!? |
Not at all.
Mario 64 impressed me upon release for its use of 3D in the platforming setting but its gameplay was no better in my eyes than what we had already seen in 2D Marios.
Mario 64 was a landmark game because it showed us that platforming in 3D was not only possible but really enjoyable.
Sunshine didn't have the landmark innovative nature of Mario 64 (which is why I suspect people still rave on about it today) but it was just more fun to play for me. Much more fun.
For me Mario 64 sits alongside Ocarina of Time as one of the most over-rated games of all time.
It was excellent. It was innovative. But those two things alone, for me, do not place it in the league that other gamers put it in. Not even close to be honest.
Random Hero - October 18, 2007 10:37 AM (GMT)
The Super Mario Brothers series was above average to good before Super Mario 64 came along. Yes, I have said it. Super Mario Bros. 3 was a good game, but not a great one. The same can be said about Super Mario World. The main reason that this game receives so many negative reviews from such highly acclaimed writers is NOT due to the fact that it is a bad game, but rather they are simply holding onto the end of the traditional series that was built up to Mario 64. I can simply state, that while playing this as a ten year old kid, and playing it now, that it is the best Super Mario game ever created, through and through, while the others before it were simply perfection under nostalgic purposes only. This took a good character, and made that character’s reputation set in stone, delivering a high performance to the Nintendo 64 launch that the Nintendo GameCube was lacking, sadly.
D43M0N - October 18, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
Bollocks. SMW remains one of the better games of all time, as well as one of the games that helped shape the entire gaming industry today. Look at the level design as well as the game design/premise; both were pioneering, and are still considered a bar today, really. Yes, it's been superseded, but it's still a benchmark dammit.
NismoR34 - October 22, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
Well I listened to it and as always, it was quite good. Nice to hear a new voice once again although I do think that had Slashy been there, it would have been hilarious between the 3 of you.
Also, let's see just how long this record of Nismo mentions can last eh? :P
/backslash - October 22, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm sorry I wasn't there. I gave it a listen last week, good podcast but really needs the 3+ members for the full effect as we've already demonstrated with Angra.
NismoR34 - October 22, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Yeah that's what I meant.
Although we all know that I would have enjoyed the podcast if it was just Angra talking too... ;)
borgster101 - October 23, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
Yeah 3 is certainly better than 2, but we decided to go with it anyway, even though slashy couldn't make it, since we hadn't done one in a while :)

JESUS WHAT THE FUCK?!
I thought I might give this podcast a listen, but I gotta admit that was pretty fucking terrible. Go get a dreamcast and a PS2, play non-stop and catch up on the last 8 years of videogames, then get back to me. That was fucking shithouse. For the love of god don't get this D34M0N prick on the podcast ever again, unless you can find someone who's going to tear shreds into his ass. Honestly what the fuck was that shit?
LOL.
EDIT: had a listen to ep.3, and it was actually very good!
Just not a good idea to give a Ninty fanboy a microphone. Yikes!
Seems like it'll be worth keeping an eye on tho, depending on who's involved...
Angra - November 15, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
I'm going to get my mic back from my mom's house and I want to join in again on the next episode, if at all possible! Great job on the podcast, guys :D

ultracrazy1 - November 15, 2007 01:44 AM (GMT)
I was pissing myself laughing! Honestly, you don't need to pretend to be happy about every little thing Nintendo does. If their marketing tells you that you should be a casual gamer, and all they do is release mini-game compilations, IT'S OK to admit that most of the titles on Wii are piss-poor and just DON'T BUY. Then throwing into the mix some rediculous memories of Rare FPS on the freaking N64, and wishing they'd come back to Nintendo... seriously are you freaking kidding me? I couldn't believe my ears.
It was all just self indulgant Ninty fanboyism. Constant anti-Sony comments, when it's freaking clear as day that if they'd just pick up a PS2 then they'd stop dreaming of a Nintendo/Rare paradise and buying into whatever spiel Reggie happens to be spewing at the soccer mums and bed wetters.
Denial on tape for the motherfuckin LOSS.
borgster101 - November 15, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
Well I dont have a PS2 so it makes it hard to talk about games for that system :P But I do have DC, and yes would be cool to talk about some games on that system, but we tend to focus on the recent stuff.
Though I certainly try not to be biased, but of course when your talking about games, naturally games that you have played and you're more interested in are going to come out, if you happen to think they're shit, then well that comes with the territory, everyone has their own opinion. But dude no need to get all angry and bitter about it, the Podcast is just for a bit of fun to give something back to the community, sure we welcome your suggestions for improvement in future episodes, but you can go about it A LOT better than the angry bitter approach your taking, do you expect us to respond positively to that?
Again, I welcome your suggestions, I try to cover as broad of topics as possible, which can be better achieved when you have more guests on the show, since they bring different things to the table and more variety in discussion, unfortunately the latest episode only had 2 of us and thus limited the discussion a bit.
Glad you enjoyed our 3rd episode, for future ones will we probably make sure we have at least 3 people to get that variety in discussion :)
ultracrazy1 - November 15, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
To put it simply, the problem is that there were many instances of complete ignorance. It's very clear that you are being selective about the information you bring to the podcast, you're both incredibly biased, and it's painful to listen to.
The gaps in knowledge and personal agendas are not only obvious, you appear to be proud of your ignorance. And I'm not saying that to be offensive, I'm trying to offer contsructive critcisism. The podcast needs people there who aren't Wii60 clones.
If it were clear from the outset that it was a specialised viewpoint, say a retro only or Nintendo only podcast, there wouldn't be a problem. But the impression is that you're a bunch of Sony haters. My advice is to cover Sony news, even if you aren't personally interested.
borgster101 - November 15, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
Well you'll notice that we do cover Sony news, (check out all the past episodes too), in this latest episode we talked about the 40GB PS3, now it might have a negative tone towards Sony, but thats only because in terms of success of the PS3 console, there hasnt been a lot of "good" to talk about, furthermore there isnt a lot of great PS3 games out yet, so it's not so much a case of "Sony hating" but a situation of Sony not providing the material.
Now yeah we could talk about all the great PS2 games, and we might touch on them from time to time, but the focus is going to be on the new stuff, where PS2 isnt whats new, hence its neglect in that sense, except for when we promote certain awesome games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus (again check out some past episodes).
Regarding about being selective on what news is talked about, this is true, we are selective, but this is mainly because we can only fit so much in, and we dont want the episode to go for too long.
I do try to cover a broad range of topics regardless of my personal interest (and contrary to what you might think, I am interested in games that appear on Sony platforms too, but I just don’t have the financial resources to own 3 major consoles), but where the conversation goes on these topics depends on who is involved, in this latest episode we had as you put it "Wii60 clones" :P so that is going to naturally reflect on how items are discussed.
From Episode 5 onwards, we will try to always have at least 3 people, that provides a wider scope of opinions and discussion, making for better podcasts. :) This episode was supposed to have 3 people as well, but technical difficulties made that impossible, and since it had been a while since we did a show, I decided to go with this episode even if it meant a greater variety of discussion would be compromised.
Now I could implement a zero tolerance policy regarding future podcasts, that being 3+ people on the show or no show, the problem with that is, since everyone who contributes to the Podcast is on a voluntary basis it can be difficult to always guarantee 3+ people, which can make gaps between episodes too long. I want to try to have at least a new episode per month, we should hopefully have a new one very soon.
So finally, I welcome your thoughts and thank you for posting them in a more calm and polite manner, I think the solution to your concerns can be solved by ensuring that a variety of people are on the show, thereby ensuring that a broader nature of topics are discussed.
Robert - November 15, 2007 06:33 AM (GMT)
Remember back during the 16-bit gen when it was expected to be a fanboy? The term didn't really exist, but it consider very normal to attach yourself to a SNES or a Genesis and rag on all the other consoles fans.
But when the internets came and everyone discovered how annoying it is when everyone is a fanboy, it became a huge backlash.
It is just kind of funny how different it was back then for gamers. :P
D43M0N - November 15, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
I don't think I've ever claimed to be anything but anti-Sony, and the PS3 helps to reinforce my stance. I'm a guest, not a staff member, and Borgster was just bouncing off my comments; you are complaining for the sake of complaining.
What's next? Sunrise had John Howard on and he talked about politics, THAT SHOW IS CLEARLY BIASED AGAINST LABOR FUCK IT FUCK YOU I HATE THE WORLD
Edit - oh yeah, as a matter of fact, the only complaint I have is Sony and the gigantic clusterfuck it calls the hardware marketing department and higher ranking officials tunneling shit down our throats. The third or second party developers of games I mostly adore; Harmonix (which I am a gigantic supporter of, GH1 on a PS2 was what got me into them), Namco (Katamari Damacy, also started on PS2) and many others. Sony's software developers even get it right occasionally, with Ico/Shadow of the Colossus.
But hey, try trolling harder eh?
ultracrazy1 - November 15, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
Actually I'm complaining because the show might have a chance, just as long as they don't fuck up and get a random douche like you back on.
Honestly nobody wants to hear you reminisce about all this generic, mass marketed rubbish. I'd honestly prefer to read a K-Mart catalogue. They actually promote far more niche and interesting stuff than you're into.

For one thing, you're being a total hypocrite; you've just accused the podcasters of fanboyism, yet you've been crying for them to talk about the PS2 and DC. This an Evolution podcast, made by the users here. The majority of people here are 360 or Wii owners. Very few actually own a PS3. We're not Gamespot. We've no need to discuss a console that has no immediate fanbase at Evo. When there are enough users here that actually own one, then there's going to be more talk, naturally.
A podcaster is entitled to his or her own opinion, and whether you like it or not, the PS3 has been receiving mostly negative press, and when there aren't any people here with PS3s, then there's not going to be anyone to counter the news with their own opinions. What do you expect? For them to lie? For the moment, tjhe podcast has been aimed squarely at this community, which, as you like to put it, is of the 'Wii60' variety. If you don't like someone talking about what they're passionate about, then, by all means, turn off.

I'm completely platform agnostic, I buy pretty much any game on any console. This podcast is unprofessional because they make a weak attempt to cover Sony news, e.g "Didn't Sony insult Microsoft for having too many skus? Yeah I'm pretty sure they did." That's not a well thought out argument, it's just fanboy baiting. You could argue that every PS3 has a HDD which is easy to upgrade, unlike 360. You could argue that some PS3s have BC and some don't which would confuse shoppers. You could take any angle you choose, and flesh it out into something. They didn't offer any analysis, they just throw in unsourced fanboy baiting rubbish. It's not worth listening to.
If you go from one episode which has talk of many games on PS2, to another episode which has practically none, and no mention of the PSP at all, and then whenever the PS3 is mentioned you get these rediculous high school style taunts, it's absolute junk.
You can't defend it. Honestly, when you get an honest reaction from someone who is relatively unbiased, someone who owns consoles from 4 different manufacturers and has no hesitation of buying any console if there are decent games on it, it's time to admit you fucked up. I'm sure there are plenty of Wii60 fanboys who agree with Borgster and D34M0N, but I'm not one of them, and I feel that without receiving this kind of criticism, nobody is going to take this seriously.
Borgster and D34M0N are not casual gamers, they play all sorts of FPS on the PC and 360 and they only put on their casual gamer family friendly hats when they talk about Wii and DS. Even when they talk about Gamecube, suddenly they're hardcore gamers again. It's just this constant denial. These guys are totally suckered in and sound like they've been brain washed by Reggie and Iwata in one of their press conferences.
One more note, D34M0N attempts to state that he likes games on the PS2, but has a problem with the way the PS3 is being marketed. Guess what, so does everybody. Listen to any professional commentary, and you can hear these same thoughts echoed, but the commentators do not sound like schoolyard chumps who masturbate over princess peach.
Basically I think it was utterly rediculous, and I'm saying it because you need to hear it. Anyway I'm removing my bookmark for this forum, I might check on it again in a few months and see if it's gotten any better. It's really disappointing that you guys are trying to add all these great features to this site, but then ruining them with self indulgent fanboy nonsense.
