Title: Forza Motorsport
Description: Xbox's answer to Gran Turismo
Comrade Natrak - May 16, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
I watched the Xbox Pre-E3 Press Conference and a video for Forza Motorsport was played, and it looked simply fantastic. I considered creating a thread then and there, but for some reason or another I got side-tracked, while looking through IGN's Xbox E3 wrap-up I noticed the game again and decided to create the thread, this time before I got side tracked :P
Up until now when one looked for the definitive driving game on Xbox you'd look to Project Gotham 2. The trouble is, Project Gotham 2 and Gran Turismo are vastly different. Gran Turismo offered much more customisation while PGR2 provided a greater emphasis on stylistic driving. Forza Motorsport looks like it'll be the driving game that provides an experience much more similar to Gran Turismo. In fact it looks like Forza Motorsport will not only provide the ability to customise the performance of your car but also add decals etc.
I'm really looking forward to Forza Motorsport, it's looking fantastic.

Hopefully its as long and solid as Gran turismo though, i hope its not another NFS:underground pile of shit
Pauly - May 16, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
Nice graphics. Lets hope the gameplay is just as good. I'm not the biggest racing sim fan but this one looks interesting.
CLL - May 17, 2004 03:00 AM (GMT)
Looks good, but there's too many racers out there now. I'm not convinced enough to buy it when there's so many other games I want.
Machiavelli - May 17, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
Looks promising, I will get both but it would be cool to have some true competition for Gran Turismo. So many games...my wallet isn't happy.
MS needs to step up to the plate and sell a wheel along the lines of the Act Labs Force Feedback wheel for the Xbox. They need a good sim to attract some mature racers - this could definately be it.

NFS: Underground was an awesome addition to the racing genre.
A stylish and fast paced arcade racer, and it delivered and met expectations, even then some.
I thought it was an awesome game, but I can see how the "die hard" racing sim fans would take a disliking to it.
Greywolf - May 18, 2004 01:33 PM (GMT)
If it offers the level of customisation that GT offers, I'll be more than stoked.
Looks extremely impressive !!

Couldn't agree more. It was and still is a great arcade racer. And this coming from me, a die-hard, racing sim fan. ;)
As for Forza Motorports - looks nice, but not sure about the NFSU-style customisations. It doesn't suit the game style imo. That's more of a PGR2 thing.
I do like idea of damage to the cars - something the GT series has been missing. And most important of all - Ferraris are in there! Why can't they be in GT4? :crying:

Oh-well personally i just couldnt stand underground not for one single reason but a multiple of things added together to ruin the game - firstly the limited number of tracks, and the terrible drifting scenario. I also hated the soundtrack

Had a look at a movie for this game, and it looks UNREAL.
Not much of a fan of racing games, but there is always an exception, and this could be it.
DJ-Civic - May 19, 2004 11:40 AM (GMT)
If you're going to make an exception, do it with this little beauty...

Personally I thought Underground was the wankiest wank of a racing game ever made. Quite forgettable.
Anyway I'll be looking into this, especially since I'm determined to knock over PGR2 by the time it's out. If it's got a TVR in it, I'm sold.
Lordage - May 20, 2004 01:27 PM (GMT)
This game looks a treat. I especially love the Evo in the first pic, that looks amazing!
Although I'm still pretty darn keen for GT4.
NismoR34 - May 20, 2004 03:49 PM (GMT)
Being the car freak that I am, I'm definately interested in this title. I've only downloaded one video though, so if someone could put the rest of the links up, it would be appreciated. :)
I like the idea of combining realistic racing, with customisation.
Now I think it's quite clear that I can't rely on my cousin's Xbox anymore, and I do indeed need an Xbox of my own. Heck PGR 2 confirmed that anyway. ;)
As for this whole NFSU thing, do we really want to get Nismo started on that subject again? ;)

No no, let's just keep this thread about Forza (interesting title btw)
DJ-Civic - May 21, 2004 01:27 PM (GMT)
I think Forza means "Strenth" or "Power" in Italian. Could be wrong...

Work that draw distance, baby. *pelvic thrusts* :P
The game looks good, I'm just hoping it has a little extra something other racing sims don't.
Comrade Natrak - July 11, 2004 02:21 AM (GMT)
The first 40 cars in Forza's vehicle list have been confirmed...

There's really nothing that jumps out at me in that list, hopefully some more impressive cars are confirmed later. Apparantly the game will have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 150 cars, I don't know if this is a good move if they want this game to be a GT beater.

are definately worth getting excited over. Specially in a game that wants to rival GT4. And despite Forza's 150 cars compared to GT4's 500+, you gotta remember that the GT series are known for including up to 10 versions of 1 car. (Skylines and Evo's anyone?) It's not a bad thing, but having multiple versions of 1 car can get annoying.
Manny M - July 11, 2004 10:20 PM (GMT)
I got excited over every car in that list....well except for the Civic. <_<
Pauly - July 12, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
What's wrong with Civics? :P
Mmm definitely some hot cars in there. Let's hope the gameplay rocks.
And I may have missed it earlier but is this game confirmed for LIVE?
Lordage - July 12, 2004 12:57 PM (GMT)
It just keeps looking better!
And what's wrong with Civic's? I was nearly going to buy a `98 Civic Si a few months back, they're a great little car with possibly one of, if not the best stock 1.6L Engines on the road.

They confirmed it was Live enabled ages ago. Plus if you download the new vid IGN had, it has the Live logo. ;)
Good car list, a lot of cars I was expecting to be in it are, so that's a good thing. Can't wait for it.

I was looking at one for around $13,000. But for some reason someone talked me into getting a `97 Magna... Trust me on this, never get a V6, they use too much fuel. :(

That ain't bad.
And yeah, V6's use too much petrol, and with today's petrol prices.... :argh:
Comrade Natrak - July 24, 2004 01:35 PM (GMT)
IGN now have a feature up on Forza motorsport with a fair amount of info, the game is sounding like it's going to be a quality title. :)
DJ-Civic - July 25, 2004 01:08 PM (GMT)
Nice read. :)
It's unbelievable that a "GT4 vs Forza" war has broken at IGN. Just read their Cars channel. ;)
NismoR34 - July 25, 2004 03:30 PM (GMT)
It was going to happen though, you just knew it. Forza may be a brilliant title but I'm afraid it will never have anything on my GT4... ;)
Comrade Natrak - July 26, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
Already Forza's graphics don't look quite as nice as GT4's and while I'm yet to be able to check out the driving physics they'd have to be something special to beat GT4. The game is bound to be a quality title though. :D

FORZA

GT4
NismoR34 - July 26, 2004 04:45 PM (GMT)
Forza's graphics actually look a little to bit "cartoony" if you lot know what I mean. Maybe I'm just imagining it...
Manny M - July 27, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
Damn, that GT4 pic does look good, but i'm sure you were very selective in your pick of what pics to use, ey Civ ;)
Comrade Natrak - July 27, 2004 07:31 AM (GMT)
LOL, I guarantee you, it's very hard to find a bad pic of GT4, while the cars in Forza are looking very plain, they don't seem to have that reflective sheen that helps GT4 look so real, hopefully it's something that is implemented later in the devolopment.

I was about to say that Forza really doesn't look that great, and then you said that they were GT4 shots!
Oh crap!!
:tomato:
Now THIS looks good:
Manny M - July 27, 2004 10:49 PM (GMT)
Bah Civ, they look like crap :cheese:
I doubt the game will look that good on the PS2 though, it's not nearly jaggy enough.
What game are the Audi pics from Estapol?
Comrade Natrak - July 27, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)
He's pulling the wool over your eyes! Those Audi pics aren't from a game at all!! :P
As for the jaggies, they were present in GT4 prologue, not so much on the cars but in the environments. Hopefully they've fixed that for the full version. =/
Edit: Curse you! :ph43r:
BrotherEstapol - July 28, 2004 12:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I never said that it was from a game, just that it looked good. :P
The person who made it only started out with a plane, and moddeled it from there. :dance2:
My standards for graphics in car games are very high. :)
Think, Cheech and Chong high. :cheese:
