Title: Poll of the Week 16
Machiavelli - September 23, 2007 04:10 AM (GMT)
This weeks poll was inspired by my very recent third red ring of death. Got home today to find my Xbox 360 had once again transformed itself into a highly expensive paperweight, a mere two days before Halo 3 launches as well. Luckily It's still under warranty, but the frustration still remains.

The only process of a breakdown I've encountered was my PS2 once I got it chipped to play NTSC+PAL regions. After the chip was installed, it refused to play movie DVDs, so I eventually ended up buying a standalone DVD player to fix the problem
Everything else I've had has treated me quite well, unless its my PC where something usually burns out after frequent longterm use (PSU, motherboard, 3D card)

Worst I've had is my original GameCube was dodgy from day one. Would just freeze up playing a lot of games. Rogue Leader for example, I ended up returning that game to Target twice before I gave up :P
Sent it to Nintendo, and they said nothing was wrong with it (bastards) but BigW eventually just gave me a refund.
Since then I'm all good though, But i only bought a 360 yesterday so heres hoping :P

If your console breaks just buy a new one, swap the serial numbers, and return the broken one. I have done this with psx, dreamcast, ps2 and xbox. :D

My first Elite had a broken component cable and the dvd drive crapped out on me and refused to read discs after I'd had it for less than 2 weeks. JB Hifi swapped it over for a whole new one... with a broken component cable, which I managed to fix because I couldn't be bothered driving back there for a 4th time. (1st to purchase, 2nd to swap the component cable, 3rd to swap the whole package)
I suspect we'll be getting a lot more 360 owners in here :P

I've never had a system just stop working :D

Also just letting you know, a general hardware failure more commonly known as "the red ring of death" is now repairable free of charge regardless of the warranty.

Never had a console break-down on me. However, about 7 years ago, one of my old friends did stand on my Playstation, and broke the disc-reader. Got a new one for £80.
I'm dreading a red-ring-of-death, especially with Halo 3 so close.

shortly after I got Guitar Hero 2 the Xbox would keep freezing, apparently there was a bug related to GH2, but it was still under warranty, so we got it fixed and they gave us a free month of Xbox Live, which was nice, I guess...

Yeah the 360, but it wasnt the breakdown everyone gets, as I've said before disc tray wouldnt open, which is a problem if you want to you know play games on it! :P
Luckily it was under warranty, but the bitch of a problem has come back, and warranty as since expired, I don't think MS's extended program covers this problem, only the red lights one.. <_<

I used to be horrible at keeping my PS2's working. I went through 3 of them before getting my current one. I think it's lasted longer than any of my previous PS2's to date. Still working fine. (Slim PS2) :ph43r:
In all truth, I have had 6 total PS2's, 3 are junk, 2 still work, and one was lost when my dad had it at his work.... he lost his building after not being able to keep up the payments. He didn't really get much notice about the change in locks and most of his stuff (incuding the PS2) vanished. Anyways.... I also have 2 WORKING shape XBOX's. :P

Step 1: Wrap console in aluminium foil
Step 2: Turn on
Step 3: Wait for RROD
Step 4: Don't sue me if your house burns down or your xbox melts and Microsoft won't replace it

My ps1 died on me once, after I left it on for a long time :P
I got it repaired (and chipped :D ) for $50 maybe.

I've never had a console die through manufacturer fault.
A GB was dropped and died. Bar that, I've had 10+ consoles and never an issue.
Qubert - September 24, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
Never had one long enough for it break. I always sell a console to buy another because i'm poor. :(
NoDeath - September 24, 2007 10:11 AM (GMT)
very recently my xbox got RROD'd so its been sent into repairs and hasn't come back yet

Nope, every one of my consoles has worked a treat and continues to do so to this day, including my first console the SNES so yeah, I've had a good run.
A run which I really hope continues...
