Title: Too many DVD versions of the same movie?

I was looking at EzyDVD's website and something caught my eye. First I was looking at an Alien's DVD boxset with figurine, then I see another Alien boxset. I looked up the word 'Alien' in the search engine and was returned with many results. For example, there's the 1 & 2 disc version of every single movie sold seperately including:

Alien
Aliens
Aliens 3
Alien Resurrection
AVP (Aliens versus Predator)

So that's 10 versions already, but wait, there's more! I used to own the Alien Quadrilogy version, which was the original DVD boxset released about 6 years ago, and then they remastered it with another version containing alternate endings and more special features. But WAIT! Before you buy that, there's the Alien / Predator - Annihilation Collection containing:
Alien
Aliens
Aliens 3
Alien Resurrection
AVP
Predator
Predator 2

Whilst browsing at AVP, I noticed there's yet another 2disc AVP DVD AVP - Alien Vs. Predator: Unrated - Definitive Edition. You don't own AVP unless you own the definitive version! Therefore your 2disc AVP Extreme Edition is already obselete! And before you can even blink, you're presented with Alien Vs. Predator - The Ultimate Showdown: DVD Collector's Set (EXCLUSIVE 14 Disc Box Set) for $350 including a figurine and all the Alien+Predator movies

Honestly does anyone really need 18 VERSIONS OF THE SAME MOVIE ON STANDARD DVDS?! Because that's how many there is! :P

I realise that there's people with individual needs but someone really needs to make one version to end all other versions. This constant re-release is only annoying people and their wallets

The only reason this stuff is made is because gullible idiots obviously buy enough of it to justify making and selling it.

I own one DVD of ALIEN and one DVD of ALIENS. I thought the next two sequels sucked and I didn't like AVP either.

I very rarely buy a DVD for full price or sale price. I just wait a few months for it to get reduced in price or I get a used copy at Blockbuster. I also get stuff cheap off Amazon.com.

I could care less about "deluxe" or remastered or whatever movies. I just want the movie.

This reminds me of a certain chapter I just recently played in Super Paper Mario. I don't want to spoil anything, but lets just say it makes fun of this very fact :P

But yeah it is pretty insane, I can understand a standard version, and the limited edition (which should actually be limited), and boxset collections, but once you go beyond that, it's just nuts.

I thought AVP was stupid. No offense to anyone that likes it. It really did suck. D:

Agreed. There's a sequel in the making too, hopefully it'll be better (like the PC game which was perfect)

Ok, this is from memory.

there is a chapter where the 'boss' is a huge geek/nerd, he's also a giant frog. Anyway you come across his secret lair, with a secret hidden room that contains all his nerdy goodies, upon examining one of the shelves, it describes whats on them, reading something like this:

X-Nauts Space Invaders DVD
X-Nauts Space Invaders DVD - Special Edition
X-Nauts Space Invaders DVD - Special Edition (re-release)

The nerd also has a thing for hot babes (aka Peach), and the only way to get into his secret final room is to open the door with Peach, the nerd then is exicited that a girl is in his room, but can't talk to her, so he loads a special program on his laptop designed for talking with girls, that basically acts like a text based RPG/date sim game or something, with various commands like Smooch, talk, give gift etc

Have you guys seen how large some of the televeision series box sets are? I think there is one on there for over $1000. Some old aussie prison show.
