18th September, 2007 – In what has been speculated about since the games announcement, finally via the daily Smash Bros website updates, online multiplayer through Nintendo’s WiFi Connection has been confirmed for Nintendo’s greatly anticipated Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii.
At the moment the online mode looks fairly basic, you can play with friends (via friend codes) or with anyone worldwide, though the site warns if you are playing against people from great distances, there will likely be considerable lag and will effect the gameplay experience, this is to be expected in a fast paced game like Smash Brothers, nonetheless it is excellent news to have the option to play the game online.

When playing with friends you can communicate via short messages, which are really more like pre determined taunts, using the four directions on the Dpad, the website provides examples of taunts like “Oops” and “Want more”, but we’re sure some of you will come up with more lets say
colourful expressions. When playing against anyone, it’s a pure Brawl, with no taunts and in addition no statistics will be tracked when playing against random people, so it appears it’s simply to have some random fights.
The website also states that more information will be provided about the WiFi mode in the future, so from the sounds of it, there will be more to come!
Super Smash Bros Brawl will be released in December in the United States, no release date is currently scheduled for Australia or Europe, however it’s speculated that the game wont hit PAL stores until 2008.
