Title: Wii version of Oblivion Engine Announced
borgster101 - September 13, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
September 13th, 2007 -The technology that was the base for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Civilisation IV (among other games) is now heading to Nintendo's Wii. The engine has previously only been available on the more powerful next generation hardware, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms. Bethesda uses a heavily modified version of the technology for Oblivion and the upcoming Fallout 3.
CEO of Emergent Geoffrey Selzer stated that the technology will allow developers who were "caught off guard" by the Wii's success to quickly come into Wii development. It has been stated that the engine will make multiplatform development less painful for developers.
Wii titles that utilise the engine have not yet been announced.

If I understand, it doesn't mean in any way that Oblivion is coming to the Wii, right?

You would be correct, this doesn't mean Oblivion is heading to Wii at all.

Smells like they probably just shoehorned the PSP engine they were using for that Oblivion port onto the Wii for a quick buck. Is that game officially canceled at this point? I haven't seen anything on it since it was first announced. Could be a bit of a money-spinner for Gamebryo, if they're going for the "we'll help you if you want to catch up with the Wii's success" angle.

I don't think the Wii would be capable of handling Oblivion unless they make it the dumbed down dungeon crawler like the PSP version

Actually I believe the PSP version was indeed cancelled, so it might resurface as a Wii game now ...

I don't buy that there was ever going to be a PSP version, I mean, c'mon.
Next, we'll hear that Gears of War is going to appear on the original Xbox.
