Title: The Official Bioshock Thread
Description: "It's dream-time, Mr Bubbles."
Decman - August 25, 2007 08:33 PM (GMT)
An entire topic dedicated to the monolith that is Bioshock.
Some are calling it the best game ever made. What do you think? Has it usurped your current number one? With review scores averaging about 90%, it's no wonder: BS is amazing.
While I wouldn't call it my number one game, there's no doubting that Bioshock creates an electrifying atmosphere. And am I the only one that thinks the Revolver sounds absolutely orgasmic when fired? :P
Who's got hold of it? Who's played it? Share your thoughts.

Yeah it's pretty insane, I love the atmosphere and art style of this game, the 1930's theme of the entire underwater city, yet with futuristic elements, is really unique and just a joy to explore through.
I dont know whether I'd consider it the best game ever though, sure its really good, one of the top games of the year so far, one problem I have is the lack of difficulty, essentially due to vitrually no penalty for death, really sucks out the challenge of the game and makes progress a lot quicker, I'm still enjoying it, but you can exploit the situation of the no death penalty.
Still, agreed it's amazing! :D

well check out my done and dusted xomment. But anyway system shock 2 was one of my favorite games of all time. Seeing how it failed made me really sad and seeing a game so similar in so many respects triumph makes me feel almsot like my child is triumphing. So yes my favorite game ever goodbye Metal Gear, Chrono Trigger, Resident Evil 4 and Psychonauts, hello Bioshock

They aren't joking when they say it's the best game of all time; it is. It fucks over Half Life something chronic, and craps all over SS2; it brilliance on a disc.

I was happy that the demo played on my PC reliably.
But I think I'll wait till the price lowers/I have less games in my backlog to finish/they release patches to increase performance and fix the widescreen issue.
Random Hero - August 26, 2007 09:33 AM (GMT)
Having no 360 or decent enough PC I have to wait and constantly listen to my friends brag about how much fun they are having with it. :(
DJ-Civic - August 26, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
Well when I first tried the demo I was blown away. Everything about the game grabbed me and sucked me into the world - something only certain games have done.
Now that I've got game it keeps getting better and better. I wouldn't call it the best game ever as it was heavily influenced by titles that have already used features that are in the game.
I'm not that far into I believe. I have beaten 2 Big Daddies, and rescured 2 little sisters as I've decided to do the good thing. :P
And did anyone else the collector's edition on the 360?

I didn't actually. I'm thinking of geting hold of the Halo 3 special edition: because I haven't been following Bioshock religiously like some here, there was never much hype for it to live up to in my case, so I wasn't too bothered about the extra merchandise.
Pah! Save the Little Sisters?! KILL THEM! ALL OF THEM!! MWUHAHAH...
Whaaat...? I need the ADAM! :P
DJ-Civic - August 29, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
I'm saving the little sisters and then when I play it a 2nd go I'll harvest them as I plan to play it on Hard next.
Decman - August 29, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
I actually started rescuing them towards the end, but it turned out that it wasn't enough to sway me from the dark side. Oh well, next time round, I'll be a good boy.
D43M0N - August 30, 2007 09:29 AM (GMT)
Finished it twice, on hard and easy, saving and harvesting the Little Sisters. Big Daddies are scary on hard :(
That said, the good ending is the very definition of heart-warming. I'm returning it to Blockbuster, it was good for a week's play or so, and 800+ gamerpoints, and is probably the best gaming experience I've had, ever.
Qubert - September 11, 2007 06:11 AM (GMT)
I'm saving the little sisters too :) What do you think downloadable content will entail?
ElPresidente - September 11, 2007 08:30 AM (GMT)
Looks like it will be new plasmids to play around with.
Nags - September 12, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
Oh man i can only wait for that! Maybe some Co-Op, SS2 anyone?
El Taco - September 12, 2007 11:01 AM (GMT)
Was anyone else disappointed by the ending?
borgster101 - September 12, 2007 11:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah kind of, not really much closure.
El Taco - September 12, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)
You finish this 20 hour game, tehn you get a 1 minute ending then back to the main screen. No credits with soft music with pictures of the game to reflect...
rebeccajennings21 - September 18, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
i tried the demo of bioshock, i must admit it didnt seem that good to me, so i went back to the trusty halo :D
NismoR34 - September 18, 2007 06:56 PM (GMT)
Probably an obvious thing to do but I'll mention it anyway; If you are going to discuss anything storyline related or indeed the events of the ending then hide it behind spoiler tags (or white the text so that people who want to read it have to hightlight it) so that the rest of us don't have such a wonderful game spoiled.

As some of you may know, BioShock was my most anticipated game of this year. When the demo hit, it blew me away with how immersive and polished it was and it was a perfect example of what the BioShock experience would be come the full game. Now that I've got the full game (and indeed the LE thanks to Civ), I can further confirm that BioShock is absolutely brilliant in every sense of the word. It's easily Game of the Year for me this year and is one of the best games I have ever played period. Is it the best game ever? I'm yet to finish it (rendering my opinion irrelevant) so I can't decide on that just yet, but if the experiences I've had with the game so far are any indication, then it's certainly heading in the right direction. When you consider that Metroid Prime is my best game of all time, that's saying something...
Anyway, Rapture is absolutely beautiful. The art direction, the way the world 'feels' as you explore it and indeed how it every room seems to tell a different story within Rapture; all of it is fantastic to experience and at times I really wish Rapture was real. It's that beautiful.
As all the reviews have already said, everything about the game is so polished from the aforementioned art direction to the sound to the way the guns feel to use and even the way hacking plays out - it all works wonderfully.
Look, words can't do it justice. BioShock is the best game on 360 so far and if you disagree, you're braindead. :P
I just recently made it up to Fort Frolic for the first time earlier this evening, so I still have a fair way to go yet but that's fine by me. I've been taking my time to really enjoy the experience of Rapture, exploring every nook and cranny and just generally soaking it all in. It's probably taking me longer to get through than most other players but I couldn't care. When I'm playing that game, I don't want to ever stop. Now if only the place were real...
NismoR34 - September 27, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
Well as I mentioned in the Done And Dusted thread, I have now finished this wonderful game. I also mentioned that I'd post final impressions, but I just realised that my previous post (which just happens to be directly above this one since none of you posted :P) pretty much covered everything I feel about BioShock now after finishing it.
I'm still in awe in just how real Rapture feels while you're playing through it. As I mentioned, I loved the art direction of the game and indeed the era of time that the game is set in as well. It led to a wonderful and fully realised world that was unique, beautiful and just a joy to experience. I loved how each and every room seemed to tell a story of some sort, be it to do with some of the characters you meet or hear about during the game, or just with the splicers that inhabit it; it all just came across as real and it's for this reason that BioShock's experience is as rich and enjoyable as it is.
Obviously the brilliantly done sound effects, soundtrack and the way the game 'feels' to play add to the experience and yeah, it's just a brilliant thing to experience in gaming. I fully recommend it to anyone and still believe it to be the best game on the 360 to date. I also stand by my call of it being Game of the Year.
So I guess the last remaining question is, is it the best game I have ever played period?
No, I think Metroid Prime still holds that accolade. However, BioShock has to be the best damn interactive entertainment experience I have ever had.
Make of that what you will.
