Title: I Need a Graphics Card

_MetalliX_ - August 24, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
Well despite the fact I bought my PC not that long ago, I already need to upgrade my graphics card.

The reason being I am getting a laptop and I want to be able to plug it into the monitor. Seeing as how I don't want my PC, 360 and Laptop to all share the one monitor I figured I would go dual screen, something my current card isn't capable of.

Now, I need a card with enough grunt to run two 22" widescreen monitors through DVI (so thats 2x DVI ports). BUT it also has to be relatively inexpensive. Around $200 would be my budget.

Thanks guys!

A Good Graphics Card for gaming use or not? If so, don't always fall into the trap of "minimum requirements." They are often misleading.

Radeon X1950 Pro Dual DVI, HDCP compatible - $199 from Umart, look on staticice.com.au for the best price at a place closer to you. I'm assuming your PC uses PCIe, too. Others to look at would be the Radeon 2600XT or Geforce 8600GT if you want something DX10 capable, but it seems that the X1950 Pro has better performance than both of them, and DX10 games probably wouldn't run very fast on either of them anyway...

Do you want performance?
7900GS if you're not fussed about DX10, 8600GT/S if you want DX10 inexpensively.
8600GTS is about $270.
But the 7900GS is something like $190 from memory at the moment and offers similar performance but only DX9 compatible.

ah, yes, the 7900GS would be another option, the competitor to the Radeon X1950Pro, but it seems that in most cases the Radeon is a bit better - if I was looking for a PCIe card for $200, it'd be the X1950 Pro

Agreed with the choice of the X1950Pro... although MSY (pdf direct link to parts list) has it for $192 ;)

Thanks guys, X1950Pro it is! Luckily MSY is only a few hundred meters from where I work. Might go pick one up on Friday!

good choice, I can't be bothered looking for prices at MSY, their website's so horrible...
