Title: Poll of the Week 13
Machiavelli - August 22, 2007 05:35 AM (GMT)
There is very little doubt that keyboard and mouse are simply the best available foundation for using in a FPS, probably why these types of games have always been predominantly PC. However, I genuinely prefer and feel more comfortable using a dual-analog control pad.
I'd be screwed playing games with more complex movements such as Unreal Tournament, although I have heard rumours that some of their best players do in fact use control pads. :o

Oooo, great poll.
Mouse + Keyboard for me, the speed and accuracy eclipses the control pad. But I have heard good things about the trackball.

Mouse and Keyboard wins. Though Metroid Prime 3 seems to have the Wiimote/Nunchuk as a close second.

Mouse and keyboard, although after playing Rainbow 6 Vegas and Bioshock on the XBox 360, it's getting harder to choose.

Mouse + keyboard. During the days of Quake 2 multiplayer tournaments at high school though I always just used the keyboard by itself (this went on for a year or so). Everytime I used the mouse (without adjusting the sensitivity) I'd either start firing bullets into the ceiling or launching rockets at my feet and send my corpse flying across the room
Didn't start using the mouse+keyboard formula until Quake 3 Arena came out

Mouse and keyboard, most definitely. You just can't get the same pinpoint accuracy with analog controllers than with a mouse.

Keyboard/mouse. There is no substitute for FPS games. Keyboard for movement/bind your weapon keys around the movement keys, and a mouse to aim and fire.
Now which mouse, that will lead to some real arguments.

Mouse and Keyboard.
I don't really have many first person shooters on consoles, apart from Metroid Prime on GCN which I've barely played.
One time I hired Quake 3 on PS2 and I wasn't too bad after I got used to the controls, but it's still nowhere near as good as a mouse/keyboard combo.
Red Steel almost had the Wii remote/nunchuck thing right if they had made turning more sensitive.

I said wiimote and nunchuk, but we don't really have any games yet that use it for that, so I can't really say for sure. Other than probably Metroid Prime 3, I don't really play FPS's...
Asguarde - August 23, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
I can't really vote in this poll. I don't play that many FPS's. The only one I've ever liked (bearing in mind I have only played a few) is Halo.

personally would rather have controller since i am so used to playing on PS2 and just getting back into pc games so controller all the way for the PC
DJ-Civic - August 23, 2007 02:52 PM (GMT)
I like both, but in the end M+K/B wins for me. I remember when my PC was still good I'd play so much Battlefield 2 and Counter Strike... I miss it. :(
FreakTrigger - August 24, 2007 01:13 AM (GMT)
It occurred to me this morning sitting at my desk behind a miniature fort of Bioshock Collectors Edition boxes that the only thing that keeps me PC gaming is the keyboard and mouse - if the same support for it was offered by consoles, I'd probably be quite content to own a mediocre PC and never game on it again.
Ninja Catfish - August 25, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
O course mouse and keyboard, for the reasons already mentioned.
You just can't do it the same with the same degree of speed and accuracy with analog sticks.
Plus I've spent upwards of $200 on my mouse/keyboard combo <.<

for sure its my xbox controller, but i dont mind the mouse and keyboard either :P
