August 20th, 2007 - Metroid Prime 3 is set to be released in the US very shortly, and the final version is now available to be played in EB's/Gamestops across the United States. Some interesting discoveries have been made when playing with the final game, that seem to suggest that Metroid Prime 3 will feature an "Achievements" like system, similar to what you find in every Xbox 360 game. It appears that these 'achievements' will also utilise WiiConnect24 to share your success with friends. Below is a discover posted on GameFAQs.

Here’s a part of the game that I had no idea even existed. If you accomplish small tasks in the game, you are awarded with bonus tokens. These tokens come in four colors: Red, Blue, Green, and Gold. Red tokens are given as you scan a certain number of enemies/items. Blue tokens are given for scanning lore and accomplishing side tasks. Green I believe are when friends give you vouchers, more on that later. Gold tokens are given for beating bosses on various difficulties. You use the tokens to unlock hidden content in the extras menu. The final type of token is the “friend voucher”. Basically these are given for accomplishing some type of cool accomplishment in the game.

Of course, this system will be specific to Metroid Prime 3 and so unlike Xbox 360's Achievements, it's not a universal system, but still an interesting idea and especially since these 'tokens' can be used to actually unlock bonus content in the game, rather than be just bragging rights.

On a side note, I find it funny how Nismo loves Achievements, but also loves Metroid, match made in heaven? :P

As soon as I read this headline I knew I was going to be mentioned in here. You're too predictable Borg. :P

Seriously though, didn't Metroid Prime: Hunters have a badge system, or achievement system (if you will) of sorts relative to your multiplayer 'card' thing? It's been so long I can't actually remember, but if you beat the final boss in a certain way doesn't it give you something to display on the aforementioned 'card'?

Oh I dunno, all I know is this news is cool because it's more incentive to play Metroid. In my books, that's NEVER a bad thing.

Oh and damn those Americans for being able to play it now!

Yeah, yeah, but how could you not get a mention with news like this? :P

Am I an oddball for liking Prime 2 better than 1? I am hoping 3 impresses as well, but am hoping for some one on one MB action.

I enjoyed Prime 2 as well, dont know if I could say more than Prime 1.

I wouldnt call you an oddball for that, but many others would, since they hated the Light/Dark world theme.

I think they're equals, but I enjoy a lot of the refined gameplay mechanics and visuals in Echoes. Also, I can't get over how awesome the Sanctuary Fortress and Annihilator Beam were.

Can I just rub it in and say I played Metroid while I was over in the states? B-) Got to play the intro level and it was pretty damn cool, but you gotta get used to the controls. It was my first FPS experience with the Wii, but from what I got to try it rocked!
Here's something that mocked me every time I went into a "Wal-Mart"...
