Title: Citation Creation tool. & And another thing!
Description: See last post.

Hi all.
First of all, yes, as the description says, this is a bit of a shameless plug, so i'll admit that and get it out of the way right now :P But really, i'm mostly after some constructive feedback on this project i've been developing (rather than a few measly hits).
Anyway, basically what i've been working on the last week or so is an interactive (buzzword: "Web 2.0") website that creates citations for students and writers. For anyone that doesn't know, a citation is basically a way to reference a source - you normally use these when writing a thesis, specific research paper, book, essay, etc etc...
The problem for most people is that citations follow specific formats that are hard to remember, ie: the title of the book you're referencing must be underlined, followed by a decimal point, followed by the author in italics... People (ie teachers, and academics) can be pretty snobby when it comes to citation formats and getting them right.
This is where the tool that i've made comes in:
Citation Creation. The tool instantly formats all the citation for you, all you need to do is enter the data into the form fields and it will do all the work. Similar tools out there really aren't user friendly and often don't follow the formats correctly, so i improved upon it :D
Any students out there that would care to share opinions, feedback, etc?

An excellent tool and a really great idea - I wish I'd had this to bookmark a few years ago :)
the only real feedback I can give past that is that it may be worth displaying the full citation near the top of the page, rather than down below. I'm viewing in 1280x1024 on this monitor and it's awkward needing a pop-up to tell me to scroll down to see new content.

Wow that really is a fantastic idea *adds to favourites*

It's completely useless to me, but I can see how it could be handy for some people
But you need a cooler name for it so people can use it as a verb, like "lets google it"
I suggest "Citatioogle"

I have to say i agree with the naming bit ;)
Also, i updated it a fair bit, not that its groundbreaking news to these forums :) But you can now save citations to lists and automatically export to word (or .doc file handler).

Great site, Link. I use citation tools because as you said remembering the formatting is a pain.
Don't know how useful a website would be. Basically because anyone needing this type of function would be using a computer at the time and therefore have access to Word citation tools, which are actually quite good in Office 2007.
Perhaps a form which keeps a list of citations would be helpful. That was as people surf the web and find material they want to use, they just add it to the form.

Well the list feature is up already. I was thinking of adding an ability to create custom formats easily - not sure how i'll go about it just yet though.

OK, last thing i'm going to say on this topic i promise!
As some might now, virtually created is still kicking - i've created a few projects similar to this. Another is called "mytrinkies". The closest thing i can think of that can describe it is digg meets delicious meets google customised pages...but its alot more than that... anyway, i'll explain more later.
This website project is HUGE in size (complexity of the code anyway). I've put months of work into it and its finally -close to- ready for testing. Anyway, main thing is: i need beta testers for when it goes up hopefully next week.
Anybody want an invite once it goes live?

Heya Keith, long time no see ;)
Beta testing for new project, I'll give it a go ;)

If it's not too late I wouldn't mind taking part in the beta testing. :)
