Title: FINAL FANTASY VII PREQUEL... on... a mobile?!?!?!?
Description: OH MY GOD, THEY'VE CREATED A MONSTER
fishonthecarpet - May 13, 2004 11:56 AM (GMT)
WHY OH WHY SQUARE, WHY?!?!?!?
Why, when there are all these grand new handhelds coming out, do they put a prequel to one of the GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME on a FKING PHONE?!?!?
LinkThis is absolutely ridiculous. Mobile phones are meant for exactly that... being phones! I don't buy a phone to play games, I buy a phone to call people!
I buy games consoles and handhelds to play games!
Is this some ridiculous partnership trying to sell phones, because I really can't think of any other reason why.
I apologise for the very immature way to inform you, but I am really, really annoyed about this.
TrinityJayOne - May 13, 2004 12:25 PM (GMT)
Haha, I wouldn't worry about it, that has no chance of getting off the ground whatsoever. Nobody in their right minds would buy that crap!
Fyuusii - May 13, 2004 12:26 PM (GMT)
I think you may be getting a little ahead of yourself here.
Although this news item does make mention of a prequel for mobile phones, it's actually directed more towards the advancement of graphical technologies for mobile phones, as the render you see within is merely a tech demo outlining the full capabilities of the respective hardware. Technically, if a Final Fantasy VII game were to be developed for mobiles, it would probably be on par or even more limited in terms of hardware and software resources than the original, which actually may not be a bad thing.
Take the new Star Wars movies for example. Everyone thought they would rock because of newer technology. Going backwards may actually be what's right to go backwards if you know what I mean. :P
I think you're jumping the gun. News of an Final Fantasy VII prequel would have it's own devotion of news coverage. I'd still consider this a rumour at this stage and not official word of THE prequel. It could be just some stupid sub-story for a minor character, not the lineage of Cloud Strife, Sephiroth and co.

I don't know about you but this:
| QUOTE (IGN) |
| Square-Enix is psyched beyond expectations for the new 3G series of phones -- the doubled-up company has already announced plans for revivals of both of its major role-playing game legends, plus surprised even wireless fanatics with the news that a Final Fantasy VII prequel is being developed exclusively for mobile phones. |
sounds pretty concrete to me.
Damn shame....Square-Enix...you're a bunch of idiots.
fishonthecarpet - May 14, 2004 09:33 AM (GMT)
Mmmm....
It's just the fact that they're putting it on a mobile when there are two new handhelds coming out... which are designed for games! And they put it on a phone...
I'd much prefer them to just make a console one and do a good job with it too!
I'm a big FF fan, but my wallet just can't keep up with it all!
If I wanted to play the FF games other than my PS ones, I'd have to buy a Ps2, a DS, a PSP, and now a mobile phone?!?!?
*sigh*

Square fans deserve to hve their wallets raped. :P
James Thrawn - May 16, 2004 07:53 AM (GMT)
At last! Something different that I'd actually use my 3 phone for!
fishonthecarpet - May 18, 2004 11:39 AM (GMT)
I don't think so, because I think it's only coming out on a special new phone thingy.
.StaticA. - May 20, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
Pffft......
It'll probly only reach Japan anyway. Dammit, they need to make some RPG's for the DS!

Um, yeah.... :eyebrow:
Anyway, I think this is because phones are so damn popular in japan and their technology is like 2 years ahead of ours or something. I think this'll be ported to the PSP.
Manny M - July 19, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
If there is a sequel for FFVII on the PSP, then that'll be reason enough for me to grab one.
Fyuusii - August 6, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't be so sure of a PSP port people; it's a decisively different piece of hardware to base a software development project on and probably wouldn't attract as many sales as you'd think. Sony's PSP is all about image, after all.
Anyway, as I insinuated before, the game has been revealed to be a sub-prequel to the
Final Fantasy VII mythos, following the path of Shinra's elite guard, the Turks, six years before the events of the original game. Up to three players can co-operate via wireless networking and do battle together (a mixed real-time/turn-based system looks the go) as individual Turks, so there are some very good hopes of worthwhile multiplayer support to come. There are also rumours of Vincent Valentine being a playable character (players of the original game should be able to pick why).

Mobile Phone

All you damned zealots can calm down now, ya freaks. :P

I never said that, I said a port of THIS game wouldn't sell well. :P
Manny M - August 7, 2004 09:34 AM (GMT)
Oh, well you're right there, but I was referring to the original game :D
Fyuusii - September 21, 2004 06:29 PM (GMT)
Beta testing for this game started at the beginning of this month. The servers for it however, have downright crashed due to excessive load on a number of occasions. Before anyone knew it, over 200, 000 players had registered...
Guess we'll just have to wait and see what Square-Enix does about localizing the game and, more importantly, porting it over to some more phone models. The current range of only five NTT DoCoMo 900i series phone models is insulting...
