Wasn't a nation.

Mrdie - June 12, 2007 05:13 AM (GMT)
You can pick any year, month, and day you want from May 30th, 1453 to July 14th 1789. I can be virtually any nation, such as one of the many Holy Roman Empire states, Manchu, Aztecs, Ethiopia, etc.

How can I explain it in a more simple way?

Random Hero - June 12, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Germany, 13th of May 1763

Yes.

Also, Germany didn't exist at this point. In real life, there were over 200 tiny states in the Holy Roman Empire. In EU3, there are about 15 German states.

Okay, I'll make it even more simple, taken from Wikipedia:

"A personal computer game (also known as a computer game or simply PC game) is a video game played on a personal computer, rather than on a video game console or arcade machine. Computer games have evolved from the simple graphics and gameplay of early titles like Spacewar!, to a wide range of more visually advanced titles, although the computer game market has been declining in the United States since 1999."

Ireland didn't exist then. It was Tyrone, Meath (owned by England), Munster, Desmond (not in game), Connacht, and Leinster. Probably some other minor states I left out, but they aren't in the game.

Wrong.

Sorry, Ireland, or Eíre, whatever you want to call it, has existed since recorded history. Before British rule began in 1171, Ireland had separate regions governed by kings (rí) who were all goverened by a high-king (ard-rí), so theoretically Ireland has existed as a nation since the Brehon rule of before Christ. Munster is the province I live in and that was very much under English control, as was Leinster. Connacht was the only breakaway. Desmond is an area in Ireland which had a famous bishop, and Meath and Tyrone are counties...very small counties...

By the year of 1498, Ireland would have been almost entirely under British control (about 75%), but there was no separation, it was still Ireland and not two countries. The split between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland happened in 1921 with the Declaration of Independence (when Ireland was simply the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland), i.e. much later, so Ireland has only been divided for 86 years.

Mrdie - June 12, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Of course, Ireland clearly wasn't unified (Well, there's still the north thing) like it is today until just about full British rule in the 1500s. In EU2, they simply simulated Ireland as being Eíre (Only they called it Eire) that owned all of Ireland except Meath.

Also: http://ellone-loire.net/obsidian/irel.html#Ardry

"To England as the Lordship of Ireland.........1318-1539"

When it talks about the High Kings. After 1539 it goes on with the monarchs of England/Great Britain.

And Desmond was at one point its own country opposing Thomond in Munster: click

So what would be the ideal situation in Ireland? Should any independent nations in Ireland be under vassal status or what? (In the EU2 AGCEEP mod, which makes the game slightly more realistic, they added Ulster, Connacht, Desmond, and Leinster, with all but Desmond being vassal states to England)

Check the list in that site I linked to.

As it is now in EU3, there is "Munster" (Thomond, judging from the rulers it has), Leinster, Connacht, and Tyrone, all independent aside from their unified ability to be killed by England early on. Ireland has only 5 provinces (Each its own country with Meath being owned by England) as it was in EU2.

borgster101 - June 13, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
What exactly is the point of this game? For you to declare whatever everyone chooses wasnt a country during that period? :P

I need to have SOME countries to choose from first. :D

But yeah, I'll pick soon.

TYRONE!!!!!!!
July 1st, 1489 - July 2nd, 1489

Conn, leader of Tyrone, began centralizing the government. Suddenly, time began to move, as the game progressed to July 2nd. Conn then encountered a foe more dangerous than any he had ever seen. The game proceeded to crash. Conn tried again two more times. Crash. A reinstall, and crash yet again. Luckily, Conn realized that the second game in the series was also pretty fun in its own right. So he transported to Ulster in the year 1419 in the previous game. Sadly, however, he also accidentally killed himself after his body turned inside out, spraying blood everywhere.

Though he could not start on any year, month, and day he wanted too, Conn still would be pleased with being able to play the game anyway. Rest in piece, Conn. :(

ULSTER!!!!!!!
January 1st, 1419 - c. February 1424

Edmund II, leader of Ulster, began centralizing the government. Though he was merely a vassal of the English, he aspired to create a unified Eíre. So, he canceled his vassal status with the English, and proceeded to conquer Connacht, which fell in October of 1421.

Edmund II declared himself Edmund II muintir na hÉireann and then declared war on Thomond. Suddenly, Scotland, Holstein, and Aragón declared war on Ulster. Then Leinster.

Suffice to say, Ulster ceased to exist soon after in 1423.

And now we go onto a game made in the same company that goes from 1936 - 1953. I can only start in 1936 due to a mod that makes the game much better. Ergo, PICK A NATION FOR ME! (And if I am lucky, I will not die within four years, I can still be just about any nation on earth, and yes, I can be Australia)

It is more aligned with "Games you really need to use your brain to win". And the games got around 8-9 (out of 10) scores on most gaming sites.

Perhaps, but I'm talking about this thread.

Winnar! It is Europa Universalis III (which crashed, although I found out why and fixed it I'm not going to replay game again), Europa Universalis II, and Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday.

1936? It's gotta be Germany. WW II FTW! ...ugh that just sounded wrong. :P

Mrdie - June 14, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
What if I refuse to go to war and somehow manage to get Hitler out of ze government? :o

Decman - June 14, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
Erm, okay, sorry to sound sharp, but what exactly is the point of this little game apart from you pretending that you're a long-dead war general?

Mrdie - June 14, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Ideally, it'd be a fun and amusing read with maybe a bit put in to allow others to decide what I should do.

Of course, that crashed when we tried it in EU because I was Ulster and immediately got raped.

Mrdie - June 15, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
The year was 1936, the month was January. Hitler, having consolidated power, was the dictator of the nation under a Fascist government. However, after seeing a kitty, his opinions began to change. He disbanded much of the military in order to save on costs, and began a road towards peace. When King George V of the United Kingdom passed away, Hitler was there, mourning. Hitler praised George V for "The great honors he gave to the nation" and then proceeded to break down crying.

In February, it was a slightly less successful month for the "Plan For Peace" (PFP) as Hitler called it. A demonstration broke out, supported by German nationalists. They criticized Hitler for disbanding most of the military, and demanded that German soldiers march through Cologne. Dissident rose, but Hitler refused to appease warmongers, and instead disbanded the entire navy as a punishment. March was also a bad month, and it was discovered that the United Kingdom attempted to send a spy in German borders. Demonstrations soon followed, but Hitler refused to take action as it would destroy the PFP.

In July, the PFP was hurt but not destroyed when Spain entered into a civil war. When asked what action should be taken, Hitler declared that the Nationalists were anti-peace, and gave full support to the Republican government. In February of 1937, the Republicans ended up defeating the Nationalists. In September, North Ireland was given to Ireland by the UK after a large exchange of money was given to the UK. Hitler proclaimed "This is an important day for the PFP".

In February of 1938, Japan asked the German government to recognize Manchukuo as a legit state. Hitler refused and told Japan to halt its war with the rest of China. Japan refused to do so. In March, Hitler refused to annex Austria, claiming it would destroy the PFP. In September, Hitler refused to expand into Czechoslovakia, and the Munich Agreement was never signed. In January of 1939, the first democratic reforms are put in place. Though small, they still pave the road for social progress in Germany.

It is now March 16th, 1939. Will Hitler achieve glorious world peace? Will the US stop constantly sending spies and failing? Will my boredom be avenged? IN DER WACKY WELT DER HERZEN DES EISENS SPÄTER HERAUSFINDEN!

...

Hey guys, I straightened my hair today. It was pretty cool, but didn't last long.

Mrdie - June 15, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
In August, Hitler refused to sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop act. In September of 1940, Hitler refused the Hungarian request to back them in an attempt to gain more land in Romania.

In December, Hitler declared "Fascism has failed us, let the people unite under the banner of peace" and declared the Republic of Germany, though Hitler was still held as dictator. The Third Reich was no more.

Throughout 1941, Germany was in a state of minor economic decline as the treasury went downwards. In May of 1942, the entire airforce was disbanded in an attempt to have save on costs. However, the treasury continued to become more and more empty each day.

Cabinet of the Republic of Germany as of January 1942

By the end of 1943, the economy stabilized.

Hitler, in a speech in which the entire nation listened to, declared that "The time has come for me to resign".

A reformed cabinet led by Oskar von Hindenburg and Oskar Meißner rose from Hitlers reign after a multi-party election. Social Conservatives run the new government.

Whoa. You're good in a strange kind of way.

Mrdie - June 16, 2007 06:59 AM (GMT)
The new Conservative government did not last even a year. In May, Communists overthrew the fragile government. The new government was led by Ludwig Renn and Ernst Thalmann, who declared Germany a Socialist Republic.

In the 1944 US elections, Thomas Dewey wins against Franklin Roosevelt in a close victory.

1945 Cabinet

In 1947, the Nationalists in China drove out Japan and completely silenced the Communists in China. Korea was made a state under strong Chinese influence.

Mrdie - June 17, 2007 11:54 AM (GMT)
In November, Japan declared war on the United States. Soon, it appeared that a massive war would start as France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia, and various other smaller countries allied against Japan, which threw out the Emperor and became a slightly left-wing, but still fiercely imperialistic state. Germany, China, and the USSR remained out of the war.

The Japanese government, led by Nosaka Sanzo and Goto Fumio declared war on the Philippines, invading it with success. In February of 1948, China invaded Tibet.

In April of 1948, France declared war on Germany. Within a few months, the relatively undefended nation of Germany was no more.

Fin.
